To dive into Icelandic feminism I wanted to share with you the history of it starting with the story of an increadible women named Briet Bjarnhéðinsdótti. She paved the way for many women by starting this fight for equality and giving the first icelandic feminist lecture. In this episode you will learn more about her by the point of view of Dalrun an oral historian and Brynhildur the head of the Icelandic women's right association.
Briet was the first but the struggle continued from generation to generation, mostly popularies in the seventies by the Red socks and they first Icelandic women's strike in 1975. Maria who was part of this movement shared with me her memories of it has well has Helena who was very young at that time. With those voices from all around Iceland you will learn about the beginning of this crazy movement.
