Description
A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer is charged with using the city's license plate camera network to hand a drug suspect the plate of an undercover officer β and the only reason anyone found out is that a separate investigation, three hours away, tripped over it. Today we look at the 298 license plate readers mapped in Mecklenburg County, a seven-month-old petition the City Council never answered, and the national pattern showing officers in twelve states misusing the same system. Plus: the Pineville library reopens after April's fatal crash, a deadly overnight shooting in uptown, June home sales, and Charlotte FC's Leagues Cup run against three Liga MX clubs in eight days.
