Description
Mecklenburg County's district attorney has asked the State Bureau of Investigation to open a criminal investigation into Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools finances, after Superintendent Crystal Hill released a 14-page memo β with more than 200 pages of attachments β alleging that board chair Stephanie Sneed arranged payments to a former district executive through a law firm the district had hired. WSOC's own review of contracts puts the total paid to that family at more than $1 million since 2024. Nobody has been charged, the board's vice chair disputes the memo, and two of the people named have not spoken. Also: a new report finds immigrants drove nearly 43% of Mecklenburg County's population growth, and Charlotte Fashion Week hits the runway next weekend.
