Description
Mecklenburg County will collect about $414 million in sales tax for the year that ended in June β slightly less than the year before, in a year Charlotte added people, jobs and construction. Seven weeks ago the county raised that same tax a full percentage point to fund a multibillion-dollar transit plan and the Red Line. A sales tax is a percentage of what people spend, and the last full year of data says spending didn't grow. Plus: Durham County becomes the sixth NC jurisdiction to pause data centers while Charlotte's own moratorium passes halfway with no draft ordinance, Davidson County terminates its Flock camera contract, and a free closing celebration at the Gantt Center Friday night.
