Description
Crystal Hill faced cameras Tuesday for the first time since the investigation into her ended, and promised more information "at a later time" β with no date attached. That's the second open-ended promise Charlotte has been given: the board pledged an update before school started, delivered a statement containing nothing, and now the superintendent pledges more, later. Around her the pattern held β officials wouldn't say what caused the investigation, what it found, or what it cost, the board chair left without taking questions, and a board member said only "Y'all make your own decisions" before being walked away by staff. Here's the part on paper: the law firm contract took effect May 18, weeks before the leave was announced, and it pays a communications consultant $450 an hour to advise the lawyers β placing the strategy for what the public gets told inside attorney-client privilege. There is no spending cap in it. Students return in six days. Plus: two North Carolina governments adopted data center pauses longer than they'd proposed, and an east Charlotte nonprofit opened a dental clinic with 300 people already waiting.
