Description
A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer shot and killed a man on LaSalle Street Friday afternoon. Police say he produced a firearm and an officer perceived an imminent deadly threat; a named witness and the man's family dispute that account, saying he never touched the gun and was running away. His family identifies him as Curtis Massey. The State Bureau of Investigation is leading the inquiry, no findings have been announced, and there is almost certainly body camera video β which, under North Carolina law, is not a public record and can only be released by court order. All of it lands ten years to the day after Keith Lamont Scott was killed in this city. Also: the Morrison YMCA is being sold for $42.5 million, two promises get retired on air, and a free festival this afternoon.
