Description
Charlotte City Council votes tonight on whether to put its support back behind the I-77 South toll lanes, two days before the regional planning board decides the project's fate. Staff told council that killing it could cost the city $59 to $69 million β money the CFO says would come from higher property taxes, reallocated funding, or reduced borrowing capacity. But the penalty isn't a contract term: it's a provision the legislature put in July's state budget, enforced by withholding the money cities use to maintain their streets, and Wilmington is facing the same thing on two projects of its own. Also: the man killed by a CMPD officer Friday is identified as Curtis Massey, 47, and a genuinely good weekend for the Panthers and Charlotte FC.
