Description
We have a tragic update in our missing scientists series. The body of the missing person, Melissa Casias, has been found. Eleven months after Melissa Casias vanished from a highway in Talpa, New Mexico, human remains were found by a hiker in the Rio Chiquito section of Carson National Forest. On May 31, 2026, those remains were officially identified as Melissa. She was 53, an administrative assistant at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and she had been the subject of one of the largest volunteer search efforts in recent New Mexico memory. The cause and manner of Melissa Casias' death have not been determined. A handgun was found alongside her remains. And her family, in their first public statement, said she was found in an area that had already been searched. Then they said they intend to pursue justice.
