Rita Discusses the Secrets of Being Able to Make Products in America with Leo York, a commercial copywriter and advisor to inventors in Kentucky, and Rick Kellow, a co-inventor along with his wife, Beth Kuehl, of the Original Great Plate. Leo is a copywriter from Corbin KY. He writes commercial screenplays, and also writes all manner of narrative fiction, including the wonderful "Quilting Kentucky's Stories: The Fairy Tree by Leo York". Leo also helps advise inventors and entrepreneurs at Inventors Network KY. He is also cohost of the popular paranormal podcast, The 13th Floor.  The husband and wife team of Rick Kellow and Beth Kuehl invented The Original Great Plate, a combination plate and drink holder that allows someone to contain both beverage and food in a single container. As Rick and Beth tell their story: “Necessity is the mother of invention. And when you have six kids and a rec room, a solution to clutter and messes was necessary.  We didn’t set out to invent The GreatPlate™, but unable to find a plate that kept our drinks from tipping, we simply had to! Our commitment to manufacturing here in the USA has helped create jobs and grow our local economy. Services such as design, engineering, manufacturing, graphic/web design, marketing, packaging, and logistics are all sourced from local Wisconsin companies. In total, we touch over 50 companies, all located in the U.S., from start to finish. GreatPlate™ has touched our families’ lives in many ways; we are excited to share our line of innovative products that help make social situations more enjoyable." The GreatPlate™ is about food, family, friends, and fun, not about spills and lost drinks.  The GreatPlate™ has quickly taken off to become an American staple in homes as a plate for everyday and everywhere.  We have been featured on the QVC, the Food Network, The Today Show and in many more places because people just know it truly is The GreatPlate™. Rita and Michael discuss prototyping with each other and with their special guests, Jeff Kutas, founder of MB Sentinel (mbsentinel.com) (http://mbsentinel.com), Brandon Kollar, founder and chief product developer at Edge Independent Product Developers LLC, and Ray Burrasca, Managing Partner at the Law Offices of R.P. Burrasca (RPBLawOffices.com) (http://RPBLawOffices.com). MB Sentinel is a Stephenville, Texas-based company that manufactures and sells the MB Sentinel Box Gobbler, a secure, lockable mailbox designed to protect packages from theft and vandalism. Together, Jeff and his family have rebuilt a three-generation family business that was impacted by the shift in consumer behavior toward online shopping, which diminished the demand for our expertise in natural health products and his retail stores formerly known as Better Health in Arlington, TX. The Box Gobbler and MB Sentinel grew out of the lessons learned from that earlier failure. Brandon Kollar currently serves as the Director of Technical Services at ATEC, INC., where the focus is on value-added services and the expansion of ATEC's distribution arm. Topic: 1) How New Does New Have to Be, and 2) When Did You Know You Had a Hit??

In this week's episode of Invent America Radio, America's Inventor Lady Rita Crompton discusses "How 'New' Does New have to Be?" and "When Did You Know You Had a Winner" with Wendi Short (Float No More), Sy Eckhart & Keith Frank (CODAUS.com) & Stacey Hoskins Beeler with Stitch Kentucky.   Wendi Short, the inventor or the "Float No More" flotation restraint device tells us the following: "This is my first patent.  I've had this idea for over a decade.  I have always braced myself or tightened muscles in order to stay fully seated in a hot tub.  I virtually could not even use a lounger without floating away.  This was a solution to my own problem.  Every time I used it around others, they wanted to use mine." Float no More is a patented weighted device that prevents unwanted buoyancy while trying to relax in your hot tub.      Each Float no More consists of a quick-drying belted mesh bag and 2 four-pound weights.  Additional weights may be used if needed.   Each bag holds up to 3 weights allowing you to adjust the weight as desired.  The weights can also be used independently by placing on the user's lap, so you can share with friends when needed. Si Eckhart and Keith Frank are the inventors of the "Colorado Offset Drain Attachment" (CODA). CODA is a Shower Drain Relocator package that allows misplaced drain pipes to be used with the finish (i.e., marble, tile, etc.) that gets installed as part of internal drain pipe within the structure. It provides builders with a solution to misplaced drain pipes during the construction process, effectively allowing the builder to place the drain cover in a shower or other drainage area whereever they need to, without worrying about having to perform thousands of dollars replumbing a misplaced drain. Stacey Beeler is the creator and owner of Stitch Kentucky. Stitch Kentucky has the best seamstress in the country.  For “Made in the USA”, bring us your vision and we can change it to reality.  We can create anything from BackPacks or pet products to dance costumes or upholstery.  A lifelong inventor and entrepreneur, Stacey Hoskins Beeler began her journey at a young age, making and selling handmade hair barrettes at school. She is a proud graduate of Western Kentucky University, where she earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Educational Leadership. Throughout her career, she has launched several innovative ventures, including SnapDolls, a line of children’s t-shirts designed to work like wearable paper dolls. In 2009, she was awarded 1st place in the Whirlpool Mother of Invention Contest for creating a product that detects fever spikes in children. She is currently the owner of Stitch Kentucky, a cut-and-sew manufacturing facility located in South Central Kentucky, as well as HourForce 24/7, a unique and people-focused approach to job placement. Above all, she is most proud of being a mother to her son, Sawyer, who will graduate from the University of Kentucky in May, and a wife to her husband, Brian Hosted by Ausha. Topic: Made in America - Rita Discusses the Secrets of Being Able to Make Products in America with Leo York and Rick Kellow

In his previous role, Brian Kollar was the founder and chief product developer at Edge Independent Product Developers LLC, where a variety of creative developments pertaining to gun design and, in particular, the AR rifle, were developed over the past several years.
