Description
Is it possible to license your product and still continue selling it yourself? Yes! It is absolutely possible to include a provision in your licensing agreement that allows you to continue selling your invention. Not convinced? Watch this interview with Dennis Clayton, the inventor of the Stow-n-Spin. After selling on Amazon for the past 5 years, he recently signed a licensing agreement with Allstar Innovations for a new, smaller version of his Stow-n-Spin that will hit the market soon.
In 2012, Dennis decided he was tired of things tumbling out of his messy cabinets when he opened them, like cold medicine. So, he set out to design a solution — one that would help him keep his stuff tidy, organized, and easily accessible when he needed it. The Stow-n-Spin, which is more functional than a traditional Lazy Susan because of its unique D-shaped design, was born.
Dennis manufactures Stow-n-Spins in the state of Georgia, where he used to live until recently moving to Tennessee. They've become a huge hit on Amazon, where he has tons of 5-star reviews.
“I’ll admit it. I was never a person who wanted to do a licensing deal. I wanted to be a manufacturer and keep control. Now I’m kind of getting the best of both worlds. I have a licensed product, plus I can keep selling my product myself. I look at the deal as a little extra insurance, because Allstar is here to help enforce IP protection of the product.” — Dennis C.
