Tonight I close my eyes and I am transported into the lives of the artists of both world wars. Those for whom art is an escape, those for whom writing is a way of denouncing the absurdity of war, those for whom painting allows them to soften the psychological blow. How did art spread in the midst of the fighting? Why was it an escape? How did artists denounce the absurdity of war?
