Description

In this episode N'DIGO Studio explores the topic of black women entrepreneurs. Our guests on this episode are Chairman of Midway Broadcasting Corporation and Author Melody Spann Cooper, Interior Designer and Business owner Frantzie Bourdeau-Griffin, and Brand Strategist and Transformational Speaker Jai Slaughter. There are over 1.5 million black women owned businesses in the US. Black women are the most educated group within the US population and among the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs. This all sounds great but black women entrepreneurs and black women in business still face challenges.

We discuss Melody’s new book ‘The Girlfriend’s Guide To Closing The Deal’. Melody explains the ‘Queen of the Circle’ concept, suggesting that we need to continually get out of our comfort zone in order to grow rather than remain stagnant. Melody recounts some of the challenges she faced in her career as a young African-American woman in a business world dominated by older men.

We talk with Frantzie Bourdeau-Griffin about how she first got into design and went on to build a successful business that focuses on affordable yet stylish home wares.

Jai Slaughter talks about how a bad experience in a previous corporate role drove her to reinvent her professional career. She explains how she went on to become a successful Brand Strategist, Transformational Speaker and founder of I AM the Collection.

Finally we discuss how Frantzie and Melody navigate working alongside their husbands in their businesses and how their partnerships have helped them thrive together in business. Tune in to gain insight into how these women succeeded in business and life and how you can too.
