Description

In this episode N'DIGO Studio discusses the brutal murder of black Chicago teen Laquan McDonald by white police officer Jason Van Dyke. Our guests on this episode are Rev. Gregory Seal Livingston - The Coalition For A New Chicago, and Pastor Marvin Hunter - Laquan McDonald's great uncle.

On October 20th, 2014, officer Jason Van Dyke shot 17 year old Laquan McDonald 16 times in the back. The subsequent reaction from the local community and the media led to Chicago getting a new Police Superintendent, a new States Attorney and a new Mayor.

Rev. Livingston explains his experiences and involvement with the peaceful marches that took place following Laquan McDonald's murder. Rev. Livingston breaks down how the former Mayor of Chicago attempted to withhold the footage of Laquan McDonald’s murder and why this was wrong. We touch on the systemic racial discrimination that had existed in our political and social systems for years and years.

Pastor Marvin Hunter explains how he was able to maintain a calm and peaceful perspective in the light of his nephew's murder. Pastor Hunter explains how he is working to peacefully change the moral and legal issues that allow situations like Laquan McDonald's murder to occur. Join us as we discuss the case and the broader topics of urban violence and systemic oppression.
