An appeal to the FDA on medical device oversight and how to master a media interview. This and more coming up next on Path News Network. Hello and welcome to Path News Network Daily Edition, powered by the College of American Pathologists. I'm Nancy Johnson. It's Friday, September 5th. Here are the latest headlines. Imagine a world where generative AI replaces traditional stains and supports pathology education. A CAP roundtable discussion on September 23rd will explore how AI can transform non-diagnostic aspects of pathology. Topics include automating synoptic data entry, report formatting, and clinical data aggregation. The session is tailored for anatomic and clinical pathologists, educators, and trainees seeking real-world AI integration beyond digital diagnostics. Find the link to register in the show notes. CAP leaders pushed for greater transparency in AI-enabled devices in a late August meeting with FDA Commissioner Dr. Martin Makary and other agency officials. The leaders emphasized the need for diverse data in AI training, clear device specifications, and clinician access to the right tests to ensure patient safety. CAP President Dr. Donald Karcher and President-elect Dr. Jim Zhai also highlighted the profession's contributions to FDA's SHIELD project on lab data infrastructure. The FDA welcomed continued collaboration with the CAP to improve device oversight and resolve laboratory supply challenges. Can you handle tough questions from journalists? Later this year, the CAP will offer virtual media training sessions covering interview basics, message development, and real-world examples from CAP fellows with media experience. Participants will learn how to tailor their communication for print, broadcast, and online formats while delivering clear, compelling messages. Check the show notes to register for classes in November or December. And finally, The CAP Foundation plans a magical night at Jaleo, happening on the eve of the annual meeting, Friday, September 12th, in Orlando. TV journalist and breast cancer survivor Kristina Guerrero will share her cancer journey and highlight the essential role of pathologists in underserved communities. Buy your tickets using the link in the show notes. That's all for today's edition of Path News Network. Be sure to watch your email inbox for more news like this in the CAP's advocacy newsletter every Tuesday and our weekly edition newsletter on Thursdays. We're back Monday at 5 a.m. Eastern Time. Subscribe to this show on Apple, Spotify, or your favorite podcast platform. I'm Nancy Johnson. Have a great day.
