- Dr. Eric Glassy
So when I received that award and walked down and I saw this row of people that had their hands extended and shaking my hand and saying, well-deserved, there can't be a better moment than that.

Welcome to the Path News Network Daily Edition, powered by the College of American Pathologists. I'm Robert Johnson. It's Tuesday, September 16th. We're coming to you from the exhibit hall at CAP25 in Orlando, Florida. Our top story today, the CAP gives its biggest award of the annual meeting to California's Dr. Eric Glassy, naming him the 2025 Pathologist of the Year.
- Dr. Eric Glassy
A couple people called and said, you're going to be a happy guy. So they didn't say why I would be a happy guy, but they were friends that said, be sure you attend CAP25 because you don't want to miss it.
- Robert Johnson
Dr. Glassy, known for his work on the CAP Color Atlas series and for his creativity.
- Dr. Eric Glassy
You know, for me, it's just not enough to be the one that signs out cases. I have to have a little bit of creativity to that. And so that means the patient's reports, everything has to look just as best as we can. And the college has given me that opportunity to explore all these different avenues.

AI is a hot topic in meetings and on the exhibit floor. A new innovation hub makes its debut. allowing CAP members to test drive the future.
- Dr. Jim Zhai
Let's not fear the future. Let's welcome it. Digital pathology and AI are not options. They are the expectation.
- Robert Johnson
CAP President Dr. Jim Zhai speaking at his inauguration on Saturday, sharing interest in the topic with Dr. Raj Dash, who rejoins the Board of Governors after a four-year break to focus on the COVID-19 response. Dr. Dash is the vice chair for anatomic pathology and informatics at Duke University Health Center in Durham, North Carolina.
- Dr. Raj Dash
I'm hopeful that we can create mechanisms and structures and processes that will help guide our pathologists internally in the laboratory, as well as counsel those outside of pathology to understand what we do, why it's important, and why we need the proper support to make sure that these new technologies are helping patients and not harming them.

We talk with another new board member, Dr. Erin Hahn, on tomorrow's newscast.
- Dr. Marilyn Bui
In the 68 years of history of HOD meeting, we had a record-breaking attendance.
- Robert Johnson
327 CAP members registered for the House of Delegates meeting this weekend. That's up six percent from the previous record of 309 set in 2023. CAP board member and HOD vice speaker Dr. Marilyn Bui says the HOD's success is good for the CAP.
- Dr. Marilyn Bui
My hypothesis is what happened at HOD will eventually happen with the entire college because we represent what the members want, we move with what members want, and then we all move CAP together to the next level. So we really consider ourselves. as the leaders in the college.

Finally today, a little magic on the CAP25 exhibit floor.
- Danny Orleans
...that pathologists experience... Because they're a member of the... C.A.P.
- Dr. Raj Dash
How many do you think,
- Danny Orleans
sir?
- Dr. Raj Dash
Lucky number seven.
- Danny Orleans
Seven. Final answer. The longer you hold them, the more you get. Five. Five? Really? Put them there. Let's count them up. Oh!
- Robert Johnson
Magician Danny Orleans turning one ball into many, to the surprise of his unsuspecting assistant who thought she was only holding one. He says doctors are among his best audiences.
- Danny Orleans
So when they're watching magic and I'm fooling them, they are really engaged because they're thinking to themselves, wait a minute, I'm a problem solver. I'm a professional problem solver and diagnostician. How does this work? I should be able to figure this out. And so they make great audiences.
