I'm Brittani Riddle. Today is Tuesday, September 9th. Here's the latest news. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. spent more than three hours on Capitol Hill last week in a hearing defending his sweeping health care changes. The secretary faced tough questions days after ousting former CDC director Dr. Susan Monarez following a clash over vaccine recommendations.
These changes were absolutely necessary adjustments to restore the agency to its role as the world's gold standard public health agency.
Earlier this year, Secretary Kennedy removed several members of ACIP, the advisory panel that provides recommendations for vaccines, including for COVID-19. Newly appointed members of the panel are scheduled to meet later this month. The Department of Homeland Security has proposed a four-year limit on foreign student visas, potentially affecting international medical students in U.S. residency and fellowship programs. While four years is sufficient to complete most medical school programs, the proposal could severely impact students' ability to continue their medical training. A new report from Research and Markets shows that the digital pathology market could reach an estimated value of more than $2 billion by the year 2030. Data shows that one of the key market drivers is potential lab efficiency.
