The clock is ticking on Capitol Hill to avoid a government shutdown and highlights from CAP25 coming up next on the Path News Network. This is the Path News Network Daily Edition powered by the College of American Pathologists. I'm Brittani Riddle. Today is Tuesday, September 23rd. Here's the latest news. Congress only has seven days before federal funding expires at the end of the month. Unless a bipartisan deal can be reached, a shutdown will start at midnight on October 1st. The House passed a stopgap bill on Friday, but it failed to advance in the Senate. An alternative funding bill also failed to move forward. The Trump administration's fiscal year 2026 budget proposal includes several cuts to health care programs, including Medicare and limits to federal loans for medical students. The CAP has urged Congress to keep access to these loans. Read more at CAP.org. The Department of Health and Human Services announced that Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has directed the agency to crack down on information blocking. HHS will enforce existing regulations that prohibit healthcare entities from restricting patients' access and use of electronic health records. For more on the announcement, click the link in today's show notes. What did attendees have to say about this year's annual meeting? Head over to our YouTube page to hear from fellow pathologists about CAP25. Details about CAP26 in Las Vegas are coming soon. And if you and your colleagues attended this year's summit, consider purchasing group membership. Pathologists can save up to 30% with a group membership rate. Joining the CAP helps strengthen your team's skills. Visit CAP.org for more on group membership.
