The benefits of donating blood after 50, and CAP25 takes pathologists beyond the lab. Coming up next on the Path News Network Daily Edition. This is the Path News Network Daily Edition, powered by the College of American Pathologists. I'm Stevon Burrell. It's Thursday, July 31st, and here are the latest headlines. Giving blood saves lives, and it may even benefit your own health. CAP member Dr. Emily Coberly told Women's World that blood donation is generally safe for women over 50 and offers a free mini health screening, checking things like blood pressure and hemoglobin. The article also highlights research that donating blood can, in theory, help reduce excess iron. Go to the show notes to read about the potential heart and wellness benefits of blood donation. Next year, See, Test & Treat will expand to meet community needs. Pathologists lead the one-day cancer screening and education events in underserved communities. The CAP Foundation is offering grantees the chance to tailor the program to the needs of their communities. The current request for applications is open now through September 6th. Find the full details on the next grant cycle and application link in our show notes. Emerging infectious threats like H5N1, dengue, and HIV are putting U.S. lab preparedness in the spotlight. On Tuesday, at the Association for Diagnostics and Laboratory Medicine conference in Chicago, CAP experts held a press conference highlighting that timely, accurate testing and rapid outbreak response start in the lab. Find out more by visiting the show notes. And finally, this year at Cap 25... Pathologists looking to step from behind the curtain can catch a timely workshop on how to tell their story in the media. Eligible for CME credit, Writing and Speaking for Mainstream Media will guide attendees through the process of translating complex medical information into clear, compelling messages for the public. This session takes place on Saturday, September 14th at the annual meeting. To register, just follow the link in the show notes. That's all we have for today. You can find us on Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, or Spotify. Subscribe on your favorite platform. Look for more news like this in our weekly newsletters, published every Tuesday and Thursday. We're back tomorrow at 5 a.m. Eastern with more CAP News. For The Daily Edition, I'm Stevon Burrell. Have a great day.
