The pathology profession needs more, not fewer, international medical graduates. The CAP joined a coalition of medical groups urging the Department of Homeland Security to exempt J-1 physicians from proposed visa rule changes. The new rule would require frequent renewals, potentially disrupting medical training and patient care, especially in rural and underserved areas. In a letter to DHS, the coalition warned that these changes could worsen physician shortages and deter international medical graduates from working in the U.S. Nearly 20 percent of American doctors are trained abroad, making their continued participation critical to the health care system. New updated rules for laboratory self-inspections. The CAP is no longer requiring labs to submit the self-inspection verification form unless asked. However, completing the interim self-inspection is still mandatory, and missing it could jeopardize your accreditation. Labs must keep all related documents on file for review during their next on-site inspection. What happens when your hospital gets hit with mergers, staff changes, and shifting workplace culture?
