The CDC issues a new health alert and laboratories could get a break from more payment cuts. Find out more next. Welcome to the Path News Network Daily Edition, powered by the College of American Pathologists. Today is Tuesday, January 27th. I'm Brittani Riddle with the latest news. With only days left to avoid a government shutdown, lawmakers have introduced a bill that would delay steep Medicare payment cuts to clinical lab services. If passed by Congress, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026 would delay cuts of up to 15 percent to clinical laboratory tests until January 1st, 2027. The House passed the bill late Thursday As negotiations continue, the CAP is pressing lawmakers to stop these arbitrary cuts for good. CAP members can still take action. Use the CAP Action Alert Center to urge your representatives and senators to protect patient access and stop the cuts. A new outbreak of New World Screwworm has been reported in Tamaulipas along the U.S.-Mexico border. While the risk of spreading in the U.S. remains low, the CDC is urging clinicians and laboratories to stay alert in the event cases emerge domestically. Check out today's show notes for the CDC's full list of preparedness recommendations. Proposed legislation in Virginia is taking on a problem many patients experience: delays in lab results. House Bill 424, Senate Bill 745. aims to stop insurance companies from blocking in-network doctors from sending samples or patients to any qualified lab or pathology service. Supporters of the bill, including the Virginia Society of Pathologists and the CAP, say the change would eliminate unnecessary red tape and help patients get the proper diagnosis and care sooner. Find more on the legislation in today's edition of Advocacy News. And pathologists won't want to miss the CAP's signature advocacy and networking events, including the 2026 House of Delegates and Pathologist Leadership Summit. Join your colleagues in the nation's capital April 25th through 28th, for a weekend of networking, education, advocacy, and pushing pathology forward. That's all for today on the Path News Network. You can find more on today's stories in the show notes and our member newsletters on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We're back tomorrow at 5 a.m. Eastern Time. Thank you for listening. Have a great day.
