Junior members of the CAP tackled timely topics like the evolution of diversity in pathology and training in an increasingly digital field when they gathered in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday for the Spring Residence Forum. Pathology trainees made meaningful connections and heard. real-world advice on becoming a junior CAP inspector, getting involved in advocacy, and joining committees. Residents also got valuable insight on contract negotiations and how to navigate today's job market. The House of Delegates Pathologist Leadership Summit happening next month in Washington is the place to be, even if you're a resident. Dr. Agnes Udoh you is a fourth-year resident at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
You might be on a very difficult rotation, but I think about it as this is your future. What is the point of what you're doing now if you have policies that are going to impact the way you practice in the future?
When Dr. Udoh received the CAP's Resident Advocacy Development Award last year, she got the chance to travel to D.C. for Hill Day. and advocate for the issues she cared about.
I could also, you know, help with things like how residents get their tuition reimbursed and all that, which are things that are also discussed during these advocacy efforts.
She admits she was initially intimidated by the thought of meeting with lawmakers.
What am I doing here? How am I going to talk to... These people in suits, you know, and, but I had a lot of, you know, help from all the other delegates that were there. There were lots of sessions that really prepared us to, you know, be confident and just speak with passion.
Throughout the year, Dr. Udoh has stayed connected and invested in the policy issues the CAP is advocating.
If you're not at the table, you're on the table. So if we're not making our voices heard, we're going to be chopped off and we don't have any right to complain if we didn't make our voices heard.

It's designed to give residents real-world exposure to how informatics improves lab operations and patient care. Applications are due April 7th, and recipients are expected to focus their experience on informatics sessions. And finally, the American Board of Pathology is updating how it identifies pathologists who are retired versus those who are still practicing. If you were certified in 1975 or earlier and you no longer have an active medical license, you'll automatically be marked as retired starting July 1st. If you're still working but fall into this group, You need to tell the American Board of Pathology before July so they don't mistakenly list you as retired. That's all for today.
