Somewhere along the way, most Christians stopped expecting God to answer. The prayers got shorter. The disclaimers got longer. "Lord, if it be thy will, if thine ear be inclined toward thy servant..." — and by the time the request arrives, you've already talked yourself out of expecting anything. That's not faith dressed in humility. That's disappointment dressed in King James.

John won't let us stay there. He writes to battered, persecuted churches — not a prosperity preacher, but the last living apostle — and he uses the word whatsoever. Not "if the timing is right." Not "if you've gotten spiritual enough." Whatsoever. Because the condition for answered prayer doesn't start with your mouth. It starts in your heart.

This exposition walks through 1 John 3:21-24, explaining:
