Description
John 7:10-13 • What do we do when even Jesus moves in secret? When the Light of the World deliberately dims His visibility and goes up to the feast "as it were in secret"?
⛪ Preached at Pilgrim Baptist Church • Cookeville, TN • January 18, 2026.
In John 7, Jesus doesn't go to Jerusalem openly—He goes secretly. Not because He's afraid of His enemies, but because He's testing His friends. Are you a thrill seeker or a truth seeker? Do you follow Jesus only when it's comfortable, or will you seek Him in the secret place?
This expository sermon walks through John 7:10-13 (with 1 Kings 19), explaining:
- Why Jesus deliberately moved "as it were in secret" (purpose, not fear)
- The difference between thrill seekers and truth seekers
- How God hides to see who will seek Him (spiritual hide-and-seek)
- Elijah's lesson: Finding God's still small voice (not in wind, earthquake, or fire)
- Why time in the secret place creates courage in the public place
- How public worship without private prayer becomes empty noise
- Where you've stopped seeking Jesus because the cost was too high
- How to speak up for Jesus publicly after finding Him privately
