Description
Our last episode of the first podcast series of AspirE is now available! Let's dig into the last case study focusing on Belgium and the different Asian migration trends taking place from Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam. For this, we welcome AspirE team members based at the Université libre de Bruxelles: Antoine Roblain (Collaborator), Laure Sizaire (Postdoctoral Researcher), and Lucas Monteil (Postdoctoral Researcher).
Please take note that the recording took place at a specific period of time and that the realities in the Belgium context may have changed since then.

The AspirE Podcast is part of a 3-year research project focusing on "Asian Prospects in (re)migration to/within the EU". It is coordinated by Asuncion Fresnoza-Flot, Catherine Gonzalez and Frederik Ponjaert (EAst) for the Université libre de Bruxelles, and funded by Horizon Europe. Through three podcast series, team members and collaborators share insights from the project’s activities and findings.
Drawing on various migration theories, AspirE aims to humanize research on (non-)migration decision-making by focusing on three aspects: engendering, decolonising, and contextualizing the analysis within temporal, psychological, relational, and social frameworks. Key questions include how migration policies reflect (re)migrants' behaviour, why people choose to (re)migrate or stay, and how these decisions evolve over time.
The first podcast series (2023) gives an overview of the project and case studies, the second (2024) shares findings from policy analysis and expert interviews, and the third will present results from interviews, social network mapping, and focus groups.
