  hello everyone and welcome to the concession stand here on the kb radio network i am your host kevin reed and this is the review of the live action slash animated legal comedy film coyote versus acme this film is directed by david green who last i think his last film was uh Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Out of the Shadows, the sequel, you know, of the live-action turtle movie. It wasn't that good, but he directed this film. This comes from a story by James Gunn, believe it or not. And it stars Will Forte, Lana Condor, and the film follows Wally Coyote as he unlists a billboard. attorney to sue the Acme Corporation for repeatedly selling him faulty products. This film took, it took a long journey to get to theaters. In case you don't know, it was initially, I think, what, maybe three, four years ago, this movie was finished. But when Warner Brothers sold to Discovery and David Zasloff, became the head of the studio he put a lot of films up for uh tax breaks one being batgirl uh that was the most publicized one the second most publicized one was coyote versus acne because it was going through a round of test screenings that were overly positive everybody was excited and happy with the film and so why are you shelving this movie so this movie was uh basically going to go into a vault never to be seen by anybody again well cooler heads prevailed and they decided to sell it to another studio and here we have it finally finally after it feels like forever we got this new looney tunes film i myself like millions or even billions of a certain generation grew up on looney tunes that was our that was the bag man you you you didn't know anybody that didn't watch looney tunes cartoons it was everywhere that's all we had we didn't have cartoon network and all that other good stuff all we had was looney tunes and bugs bunny porky pig daffy duck uh wally coyote the road wanted runner and and so on and so forth it is sylvester the cat by the way Yeah, all of these great characters. Dad. that just helped raise a a generation and well multiple generations so my excitement level was at a 10 you know just for nostalgia alone i was i was all in on coyote versus acme and real quick before i go any further i know uh this actor didn't have anything to do with looney tunes at least not to my knowledge but when you think of uh looney tunes you think of The voice actor. and a great performance is there. I'll be remiss not to give love and respect and a big rest in peace to one of the greatest voice actors of our generation, Peter Cullen, who passed away just recently, the voice of Optimus Prime and many other characters from the 80s and 90s and so on. He will be missed. But. I just wanted to quickly mention that. But I was excited for this film. And the fight to get this movie released really did add to the excitement of it. Because, I mean, they fought for this. They didn't fight this hard for Batgirl. Batgirl is still locked in a vault. They probably burnt every copy of that film. But they fought for this. and here it is and i must say i really enjoyed the movie it was a fun ride you know i i got all the nostalgia chills from watching wally coyote uh just fail multiple times trying to catch this roadrunner and the various cameos we got throughout from looney tunes characters like bugs bunny daffy duck and Porky Pig. All of these characters instill in the same... mold that i remember when i was a a little baby child you know when i was four or five years old maybe even younger watching those cartoons and they still had the same mannerisms same goofiness silliness uh smartness and all of it was still there they didn't really touch them to update them to 2026 times and i greatly appreciated that you know i all that's fine and good for certain properties but you know some things are timeless and shouldn't be touched looney tunes is one of those days i think that's why uh the space jam movie kind of failed not not the original one with michael jordan but that that awful horrible second one with lebron james it was horrible you know they were night and day from each other even though the first one was dated and You watch it now and it's like, oh, you know, some things just don't really look right. But you loved it for what it was. If you watch that LeBron James version and it just didn't get there. With the character, I'm talking about the Looney Tunes characters. I wasn't expecting an Academy Award worthy performance from LeBron James. But I was talking about for the cartoon characters. They just didn't have that same Looney Tunes flair. you this film really captured that flair. It captured the old Looney Tunes vibe. This is more like when you think of the hybrid live-action animation film, the first one that probably comes to your mind would be Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The second one would probably be the original Space Jam with Michael Jordan. And you really think about Bob Hopkins' performance in... who framed roger rabbit he really carried that film and space jam you think about michael jordan that was the novelty of it all you think about michael jordan in that film uh not so much the characters uh or the cartoon characters in that film in coyote versus acme it's flipped it's flipped there's a complete 180 the live action actors the order actual actors they take the backseat. They're not the focus. The focus... are the Looney Tunes characters. It was Coyote, you know, in his journey. And this is the one character. I think they have a few characters. I don't think Sylvester the Cat talks. But Wile E. Coyote doesn't talk. So his whole journey you're going through, and he actually has an arc. He actually has an actual story to tell. And it's told. without him othering a word now it's hard enough to do that in a film with a real live actor there are multiple films you can point to that that's an example of that but we're talking about a cartoon character you know in in the mid in the midst of talking characters but the main focus was coyote and he his character from the opening frame to the finishing frame went through a complete journey a complete arc that was everything that you loved about coyote uh watching him growing up and taking it to another level and there is a scene here no spoilers but there's a scene towards the end that involved coyote and another looney tunes character that doesn't speak and they actually spoke to each other without speaking to each other and it was the most emotional scene that i've seen all year it's like top 10 emotional scenes of 2026 i actually got a little choked up in two cartoon characters i don't know maybe i could be getting older and my testosterone levels are low i don't know but i i'm a softy and that would it it really touched me it really touched me especially if you watched these cartoons your entire life and with the way that scene played out and what was talked about in that scene it was oh my god thinking about it now i'm i'm trying to hold it together i'm trying to hold it together i'm like man why are they doing this to me this was supposed to be a goofy silly cartoon movie and i'm like i'm about the blubber and watching this movie cry like a baby. It was so good. But all of it was good. It was good. The movie isn't great. I will say. You know, leaning back to the... live action characters our real characters with will forte and uh john cena and uh uh lana condor they were fine you know nobody was bad but it was they were just there you know will forte he he is the quote-unquote star of the film so i guess he had a lot to do and he he did have the most to do out of all of the uh real characters but you know it was will forte either will forte is the type of uh comedic actor that either you like him or you don't you know either either his style works for you or it doesn't his style works for me i love mcgruber and uh what was that show he had on fox uh what was the last man on earth i think that was the title of the i like that show i like will forte he was fine in here you know it he wasn't bad he wasn't great you know he was just he was just fine um john cena he had some funny parts actually the one time i really bust out laughing out loud was a john cena scene um it was his performance in the scene with him and uh tweety bird uh that was the it was a funny funny scene uh with those two but uh aside from that it's fine you know and nothing else really happened there um it was good to see the other characters as i mentioned before do i think it deserved this big following to push it to the theaters no at the end of the day no i think it it warranted a release but not in the theater this isn't a film that i would say run out to the theater to see this is one of those screaming movies if they would have just put it on hbo max or something like that fine that it would have been just as fine i didn't need to run to the theater to see it but it was good i didn't feel like i i was cheated out of my money i will say that much so i guess it was a win-win at the end of the day coyote versus acme gets a letter grade of a c plus yeah it was it was above average it was it was fine it was really good will i watch it again yeah i'll probably watch it again if it's on you know if nothing i'm not gonna seek it out but if it's on i will stop and watch it because it was it was good it was good but that's just my man's opinion i would like to know did you check out acme versus well not acme verse but coyote versus acme uh did you like it did it bring back those old memories of watching uh wally coyote fall off a cliff i would love to know your thoughts subscribe to the kb radio network website where you can be notified of new episodes dropping on the network as well as previous episodes to listen to don't forget about youtube where you can subscribe to the kb radio network channel and like this video if you don't mind don't forget about the five stars the reviews and sharing this show if you're listening on apple podcast spotify iheart radio where ever you are currently listening to the concession stand here on the kb radio network everybody thank you for joining me for this review of coyote versus acme want you all to know that i love you continue to love everyone and until we speak again you all be blessed
