Hello everyone and welcome to the concession stand here on the KB Radio Network. I am your host Kevin Reed and this is the review of episode 4 to Daredevil Born Again season 2 coming to us from the good folks over at Marvel Television and Disney. Plus this episode is entitled Gloves Off and it is a ample title to this episode. if you followed my reviews of daredevil born again season two thus far thank you by the way uh you know that i have enjoyed this season so far the first three episodes i felt were the best since daredevil has kind of transitioned into the mcu proper even though it still feels like netflix it's still i mean same actors charlie cox Vincent D'Affolo, they all returned, but it still has that flavor, that edge, and boy is it bloody. This has to be the bloodiest thing on Disney+. It's hard to believe that this is allowed on Disney. I don't know how raw this show is, but I appreciate it in its totality. Episode 4 left us Well, episode three, I should say, left us with kind of a shocker at the end with the sinking of the Northern Star ship cargo ship that had all of the weapons that Wilson Fisk was smuggling into New York City. Yet he was able to get all of the weapons off, but it was in an effort to hide what was in those cargoes, even though Daredevil already know from Daredevil. But we open episode four and I was I was dreading this episode. I was like, man, we kind of we kind of left off on a pretty big high in episode three. Will this be a letdown episode? Will this be a more dialogue heavy story, a heavy episode, which isn't nothing wrong with that? It's absolutely nothing wrong with that. but we left off in episode three with one of the better action episodes since daredevil has been on disney plus of the born again uh series so i was you know you know you get those kind of uh palate cleanser episodes those filler episodes that all all tv shows do i don't care if it's drama the medical drama you sitcoms whatever they always have that one or two episodes within a season that kind of not pump the brakes not slam on the brakes but just just ease up off the gas pedal a little bit well we open up this episode uh gloves off episode four with benjamin poindexter yes bullseye and he's doing his little morning routine he's making a sunny side up egg you know just just living a good life doing his little push-ups and just a normal morning routine well not normal for me because i'm rushing out the house not eating anything and everything in the morning not a morning person but he's doing just a normal basic thing in the morning he he leaves he greets his neighbors and Pets the, not the dog, but I think it was a cat, and feeds it an egg, and goes off to this diner, orders a milkshake. And you're like, okay, where are we going with this? That was my first thought at this point. But you know his bullseye, and he has something up his sleeve. It's something that he's up to at this diner. Who's at this diner that he's looking to take out? with a with a straw or something you know because anything's a weapon in bullseye's hand and we see it in all of his glory in just a few moments at this point but he calls the police and gives them a fake tip or what what law enforcement would call swatting when you call in a fake reporter of that nature but he called in and said uh the punisher just walked into the diner and he has a gun and so of course the task force is on full alert at this point and they're coming to the diner and he he drinks his milkshake and one and one goat mind you takes the straw gets a uh out of the milkshake gets a uh a toothpick i don't know why i was about to say paperclip but toothpick and The task force is in there. They're searching for Frank Castle and can't find them. And they look over. They see Bullseye sitting there. And Bullseye goes to work. I mean, goes to work. Makes quick work of this task force with anything he can grab. Forks, spoons, lobster tails, toothpicks. It didn't matter. He worked them. And this is a task force. that is fully armed with ar-15s and everything else worked them absolutely worked them he leaves out the diner right right after he takes a bottle of ketchup from off the table he has this little encounter with one of the patrons there who has a dog and he's telling him like that's unsanitary to have a dog in a diner but uh the man he's so scared he's about the he's about the uh crap a dog oh Like, please don't kill me. Like, I'm one of the good guys. And so as he's walking out, he sprays the or squeezes the bottle on the door. And you have the bullseye symbol as he walks out. And then we get the main title. One of the best cold opens I've seen on Disney plus Marvel shows. It was amazing. I was all in at that point. Almost like, man, this is going to be a. fire episode and it was it didn't match the heights of that cold open throughout this episode i must say as far as action is concerned but it was a good episode but this was a really really good opening to this episode to let you know that this will be a bullseye episode and now we didn't get much of him after this i think we only got maybe two more scenes of bullseye after After the opening. But it set the tone. For what was to come later on. The big. And I mean big. Shocker at the end of this episode. But after the credits. We get another fake. Kingpin video. From BB. Who is dressed up as Kingpin. Of course. Talking about the North Star. And talking about the charity fight. that's coming up at the end of this episode and saying that it was a money laundering scheme. Once again, just poking the bear. I hate to see what's going to happen to BB by the end of this season because eventually Wilson Fisk is going to find out it was BB and it's not going to end well. What's going to be even worse is it's not going to end well for Daniel because he's the one that is linked to BB. basically how she's getting all her information and so we uh we move on we see karen page she's recording these testimonials from the rescue prisoners from the last episode and daredevil is trying to recruit the swordsman to his team but the swordsman said nah no thanks thanks but no thanks um i'm leaving i'm i'm good i'm good i i I've seen enough but before he bounces he tells Daredevil that he's not a hero he's no longer a hero he's a symbol of hope wishes him well and he bounces meanwhile you have Angela Del Toro she's asking Karen to let her help now that she's the white tiger and Daredevil gives the nod of approval at that point which was kind of odd this was the oddest thing in the episode to me and it's being petty but it's just odd why would daredevil let a little girl because she's a girl i mean girl girl i'm not talking late teens she could be late teens i don't know they never really said her age on the show but i know she's young way too young to get in get wrapped up in something this dangerous but he was like yeah cool you know He just gave a little nod. And so he tells Angela. that you know there's a lot of responsibility with the amulet that you weren't you know and she said she knows she understands you know and that she's ready as they're talking another uh individual comes to the apartment where they're hiding out at and it's christoph who was working at the freeport on the uh northern star and he he tells them that he's here to help that he's uh he was there when all of it went down and that uh the kingpin ordered them to destroy the ship if if daredevil showed up so that's what they did um another kind of a weird exchange he a weird weird exchange here was matt and karen Now, I get that they have a relationship going and I get that it is an earned relationship. And it just felt random at this moment to say what they said. They exchanged I love you's before Matt left. And look, it just didn't it just didn't hit with me. It was supposed to hit. I wanted it to hit like, oh. oh they confessed their love to one another you know what i'm saying it just didn't have that that that pop that i would hope that that moment would you know that it rightfully deserves but it it didn't get there with me it probably got there with you but it just kind of flew over my head i don't know but moving on we find wilson fist he is not too happy about what took place at the freeport with the escapees and uh he talks to buck cashman about it until we get interrupted and finally i was i was kind of wondering where this character was mr charles who's played by matthew letter i was wondering where he was because it was kind of a big deal that matthew letter was on the show and so you know for two episodes he kind of vanished into thin air. But, you know... thinking of the grand scheme of it all that character really didn't have anything to do those uh last two episodes so it makes sense i just want to see more of them selfishly i just want to see more of baff you letter i i love i love him as a but he's wondering why the weapons are still in new york but uh wilson fist says that he can't move them just because you know daredevil knows their location i can't just move And so Mr. Charles doesn't really seem to care for for this and talks down to him, which look, I understand that he's this. I don't know what he is, a government operative or whatever, whatever ranking he has or how much pool he has in Washington. I don't think he understands that he's in he's in bed with the kingpin. And so, This kind of tells him at this point, or shows him, I should say, that he's not his employee. I don't work for you. And gives Buck the signal to reach for his gun. And Mr. Charles, he have his own arm backed up with him. And he seems to have the upper hand until Bucky kills them both. Bucky, not Bucky. But Buck kills them both. and aims the gun at mr charles so at this point kingpin tells him that the shipment would be delivered on time and you know he needs to he needs to grow some patience and they leave and mr charles is left there a little disturbed you know because he he thought he was going to come in and strong arm wilson fist but this is wilson fist this is the kingpin so back at the apartment you know uh karen has uh uh filmed a testimony testimonial with christoph and got his side of the story so now she has this sd card that she needs to get to bb but of course she can't go out on the streets because she's wanted you know everybody is looking for him and so angela volunteers to uh to uh take the sd card and deliver it but karen is like no well you're on the radar too after what happened at the freeport you know so uh angela you know smartly come devises a plan and which was executed a little while later when she hits the streets and she reached out to a friend of hers and she asked him to sneak the sd card to bb um with the with these testimonials but also at the same time we have another covert operation going on when matt disguised himself as one of the uh avtf uh uh officers wearing the uniform and everything and he goes to the diner where bullseye wrecked it and he goes looking for clues and so he finds a token on the ground and it's a coin from our lady of grace the church that matt's mother uh was a nun at and uh where he goes to seek refuge and whatnot so this gives him the idea to go find and so when he goes to the church uh he meets not the priest because he said he wasn't a priest i can't i didn't catch what he is what is he if he's not a priest but anyway one of the guys there's that church and he tells matt that the guy was looking for sister maggie and we know from the netflix series that sister maggie is matt's mother and so he doesn't know where uh bullseye is and matt promises not to kill him uh him being bullseye and he does tell him that bullseye said that he can hear church bells and can... see the church doors from his apartment so matt realized at that point that bullseye is nearby wherever he is he's held up very close and so meanwhile we go to bullseye's apartment and he's greeted by none other than daredevil and they exchange words and then they exchange fists and anything else that could be thrown it was it was a it was a nice little one too you know nice little rematch it wasn't an epic fight that they had it definitely didn't live up to the standards of the first uh first scene in this uh episode but it was a nice uh nice one two from them you know good to see them interact those two characters interact on this show but during the fight uh daredevil he manages to get the upper hand uh bullseye he manages to uh take one of his elderly neighbors hostage who was who walked in after hearing all the commotion and bullseye tells daredevil he wants to do one good deed to make things make up for things that he did to foggy and that just sent daredevil spinning you know do you know you don't say that name he pulled up he pulled up uh he pulled up uh bruce wayne and Batman v Superman how do you know that name don't say that name so Daredevil he manages to disarm him and Bullseye he escapes and Daredevil chases after him and so we fast forward to the final half of this well not half but the final stretch of this episode the charity fight we start outside of the venue and bb she meets daniel outside and the guy that angela had met earlier she bumps well he bumps into them and you know like oh you're bb you know he acts all starstruck and asks us to take a selfie with her and while he does that he plants the sd card in bb's jacket and so at this point daniel he suspects something is wrong He he he said something ain't right there because nobody goes up to be. She's not she's not a celebrity like that, you know, but he stays quiet. He doesn't say anything, but he he he strongly suspects that there are some shenanigans going on in the locker room. Wilson Fisk, he's preparing for the fight. He gets an update on Daredevil and Bullseye. Nobody has seen him. And there's an increased number of guards of the task force at the arena. So you're good. You know, Buck, he gives a call and tells Fisk that he's not leaving his side. And Fisk tells him to go. He doesn't want any loose ends. And so the fight starts. Fisk, he enters the ring. Quickly overpowers his opponent, of course. The longer the fight goes, the more vicious his attacks are against his opponent. I thought he was going to kill him in the first round, to be honest. He was tearing that dude up. He told the guy in the locker room, you know, like, nah, the guy, he's not going to get it. He's not going to get it. one punch in on me you know so he wasn't even worried about the guy but he he i mean it's wilson fist anywho uh he gets distracted at one point when vanessa walks in and i skipped a part there uh vanessa went and met with the governor and was talking to the governor about working with fist and the governor was like look i'm not the dude something shady about your husband i don't want to work with you. You know, and Vanessa, she puts on her charm, able to convince her to, you know, she's like, OK, I won't. I can't work with your husband, but I can work with you and your husband. And so that meeting went well for him. So after the meeting, she did come to the fight. So she comes, sits in the front row and this distracts Wilson Fitz long enough for the opponent to get a nice little shot in a good punch in. Oh, boy, why did he do that? Why did he do that? Wilson Fisk, he snaps. He snaps back in reality. He delivers a pair of hooks, some body shots. They look like his ribs turned into dust powder inside of his body, and then the killing blow across the jaw. He towers over him, and he holds up his belt. Vanessa then, she joins him in the ring to congratulate him, just to tell him about the support from the governor. But, as we know, so is life. All good things come to an end. Bullseye strikes. He kills over a dozen of the task force agents. You know, they're no match for him. He worked them in a diner. with spoons and lobster tails he killed the guy with a lobster tail what more can i say and so he makes he makes quick work of them then he sets his sights on vanessa who's standing in the ring he finds something sharp to throw at her and uh it was some type of i don't know what it i didn't get it i didn't get a good glance at i'm beyond with some type of glass statue dang um and he threw it but she manages to shoot him get a shot off before anything uh happened to her with this sharp object thing and wilson fisk he takes his belt the the little championship belt that he just quote unquote won he hits the sharp thing this little glass figurine thing and theoretically blocked it Which was crazy because I was sitting there like, man, Wilson Fisk blocked something from Bullseye. But Bullseye did manage to kill his guards that had surrounded him in the ring. Kingpin, he grabs one of their guns and he shoots at him. But just as he shot at him, we see Daredevil swoops in and saves Bullseye. He saved Bullseye. And the two of them make it out of the building alive and they start to run immediately. Meanwhile, you have the kingpin, Wilson Fisk. He's he's barking out orders at the task force to chase after them, get them. And in his rage, he he forgot he he forgot that bullseye doesn't miss. He never misses. So he turns and he looks and he sees Vanessa. And the way it was shot, it was great. I loved how they shot it. It was a profile shot. And as she turned her head, we see the blood starting to gush out of one side of her head as one of the pieces to that little trophy figurine thing was lodged in the right side of her head. As she collapsed and Wilson Fisk shouts for the ambulance and... It fades to black. Man, this was a fire episode. This was a really, really good episode. I was excited from the word go. It started on a high, ended on a high. It wasn't action-packed. All 50 minutes of it wasn't jam-packed with action. But the action that we got was great. One thing that I noticed about this season so far, for the first four episodes you know last season we got maybe maybe three good scenes with daredevil i'm talking matt murdoch in his daredevil costume uniform whatever you want to call it it it was it was boring because you didn't have any daredevil in it this season is a complete opposite of that you we are getting like 85 daredevil in in 15 matt murdoch and i'm not mad at Nothing wrong with Matt Burdock. I just love Daredevil. I want to see more of the costume hero. But this episode, it once again left us on another high. What's next? We went with Vanessa. She isn't dead yet. She isn't dead, but definitely got them at the very least. She has severe brain damage from what happened. And. Wilson Fisk is going to be a man possessed after this. There's no more Wilson Fisk after this. It's all Kingpin. It's going to be brutal going forward. I'm so excited to see how this goes, how the story unfolds. How is this going to work with Daredevil and Bullseye kind of working together now? I wouldn't say they're working together, but I don't know, man. I don't know. they're not trying to kill each other let's put it that way they're not trying to kill each other and how will karen page take this you know because she know that bullseye killed foggy so while how is she going to react into this kind of makeshift alliance that daredevil and bullseye have together it's so much it's so many questions so many questions i can't wait to receive the answers uh i love this episode if you couldn't tell loving the season so far but that's just one man's opinion i would like to know yours what did you think of daredevil born again season two episode four did you enjoy it are you looking forward to what's next on the docket let me know email the show kbradiopodcast at gmail.com you can also search for the show on all social media platforms just search for the kb radio net Also, don't forget about YouTube.
