  hello everyone and welcome to the concession stand here on the kb radio network i am your host kevin reed and today is a two for one yes buy one get one free because we not only getting one movie review but we're getting two of the first one being insidious out of the further which is the Sixth. installment to the insidious franchise and our second review will be the latest jason statham action thriller mutiny why do one episode for two movies well to be completely honest with you both of these movies are are what they are and it's not enough to talk about them in one episode to expound upon them. and one episode apiece so i'd say you know what we'll we'll just loop them together i was lucky enough to see both of these films in one day you know it's rare that i do that and these days and because life be life and but i got to see both of these movies this past friday and today i decide i must share my thoughts with all of you let's start off with our first review that is the latest supernatural horror film you insidious out of the further as i mentioned this is the sixth film in this franchise i didn't foresee way back when the first insidious film came out that this would be a franchise not only a franchise but multiple films in this franchise i enjoyed the first one uh the first insidious film was creepy it still holds the record as having my most creepy moment in film that was insidious actually two of the most creepiest moments in a horror film came out of that one movie and so it always has a kind of a special place in my heart the other ones were what they were you know it was the law of diminishing returns after that uh i i didn't even watch insidious the red door which was the fifth film in this franchise it just did not appeal to me at all and now this one did pique my interest for no other reason than i haven't seen a real good horror movie in a few months here and you know i'm getting excited for the horror movie season coming up with halloween just a couple of months away so i'm kind of getting into that mode and so insidious out of the further in this friend in this film out of this franchise uh which is directed by Jacob. chase it's it's about a young woman who can interact with and bring spirits to the mortal world that we currently live in and is soon haunted by malevolent forces this this movie i must say i wasn't expecting anything from it you know i wasn't expecting to be scared i thought was going to be your typical throwaway... horror film that we get around these time of the year but i'm gonna say this this was pretty decent this movie was pretty good uh aside from some curious acting choices in this in this film this film had some really really good jump scares that's the one thing i take away from insidious out of the further the story not so much the acting not so much But when I walked away from it, I am scarred with the jump scares because they were so well done. Most horror films in this era, they have, you know, James Wan, who is a producer on this film. He is the master of jump scares. And even his films don't have that same. allure that it used to have back in the day when he was first making these horror films it's it's done to death in movies now you know when they come in you can count the beats you know exactly what's going to pop out of the corner insidious out of the fur that does a really good job of creeping you out i'm not it's not scary per se now this is coming to some from somebody who is deeply desensitized to horror film so take it with a grain of salt but it is it is a creepy movie creep creepy is my bag you know i guess i'm getting older now creepy is like the new horror for me and this movie is creepy it is very very creepy it it sets out i mean from beginning to end you know the setup is is kind of woven into the thread of the film and but throughout you're constantly on edge you with certain things that happened. things that pop up from behind and all while you're getting the story that's unfolding now is like i said the story doesn't really make much sense i guess you have to be a insidious fan to have seen all five previous films to really understand and like i said honestly i've seen the first three i didn't see the red door and i didn't see the one that was before for that but i you know i know a little bit about a little bit and it was what it was you know uh if you want to go to the theater and just be creeped out want to see a little horror film this this is a decent film i will recommend it it's not it's not offensive to the eyes or senses or to your common sense i will say you could have a real enjoyable time if you're a horror film fan if you're a fan of this franchise It is a decent watch. Insidious, out of the further, gets a letter grade of a C. And speaking of being repetitive, we dive into Jason Statham's latest action film, Mutiny. This is from the director of Plane, which came out a few years ago with Gerard Butler. which was a decent little action movie you know uh gerard butler and jason statham they are two actors of a of a acquired taste if you are a 90s action fan fan these two actors were born or just came to prominence a decade or two too late i think i think in the 90s jason statham and Gerard Butler. would have been up there with the salons and the bruce willis's and the uh uh arnold schwarzenegger's as far as these action heroes are concerned um unfortunately it's 2026 and nobody cares about these movies you know back then you just turned your brain off you didn't care about plot you didn't care about substance you just wanted to see good action and a good butt kicking and that's all you got back. did and you were satisfied deeply satisfied with those movies here now you know people crave substance they want a story to go along with the action and unfortunately just like every other jason statham film that has came out in the past five to six years it doesn't have that uh it tries it tries to have a story but it gets lost the movie started off really pretty decent um i was enjoying what i was getting uh jason statham he's this bodyguard to this uh wealthy businessman who's selling off his business and uh one night he gets ambushed and killed talking about the businessman here so now and and jason statham get framed for that murder and now he's on this quest for revenge there's not so much to kill it uh uh clear his name but is just for revenge that's all he cared about so dad let you know that the movie is going in a territory that you're not accustomed to normally when somebody is framed in movies now you're framed for a murder and you're somebody of jason statham's ilk you you're seeking you're seeking to get your name cleared you know and then you uh we're introduced to you this human trafficking thing and you're like okay so they're going deep here they we about to tell a deeper story no that's where it ends that's that's that's the story and that's the first 30 minutes after that the movie just turns into jason statham running around the boat doing his best john mcclain impression this was die hard on a cargo ship with jason statham as john mcclain that's basically what this movie was a cheaper less exciting version of that and i'm like i said I know what I was going to get watching this movie and I got precisely that it was no surprise that this movie is just Jason Statham kicking butt and killing people and that's the movie that is the movie there's no spoiler there there's nothing to shock you that's that's the movie and even knowing that going in I still left disappointed I still left like man what is what is this you know because the last few jason statham films actually has some story with it you know the working man the beekeeper those movies had some story to it that's why they were kind of exciting you know they exceeded your expectations at least they exceeded mine and so i was expecting at least that and i didn't get that this was boring this was so boring the action didn't ramp up until about 40 minutes into the movie and even when jason statham got on his cargo ship it was basically him running and hiding oh he runs into one of the henchmen let's take him out and that was that that was that that was that was the entire structure of the movie and you get bored with it The first time it happened, it was kind of exciting. And then it was rinse, wash, repeat. After that, the movie just ends. After, you know. And then you have, well, I'm not going to get into spoilers, even though this movie isn't worthy to earn the respect of not spoiling it. But the ending was so horrible in this movie. It's like, my God, everybody in the world is stupid. It's just dumb. horrible ending but to be fair to the ending the rest of the movie weren't too much better either it actually stayed consistent with the rest of the movie so it is what it is mutiny gets a letter green of a d plus yeah so uh those are those are the two films that i were i was blessed to to have seen uh just the other day so uh i want to know your thoughts i know this is august the end of august we're getting into that little low movie season where really nothing is coming out until maybe october november december especially in december when we get in doom 3 and avengers uh so it's it's really nothing coming out in the next few weeks i am looking forward to uh uh well fall i saw the trailer for well you fall that movie looks my anxiety just from the trailer had me like about to have a heart attack and so i'm i don't know what i'm gonna do i don't know how i'm gonna sit there and watch it in the theater but i'm gonna try and you also have uh resident evil coming out there's some good ones coming out but now it's kind of like the dumping ground period of movies but nonetheless I'm a movie lover. I'm still going to watch them, including these two gems of a film. I would love to know your thoughts.
