Speaker #0who that to the who that nation welcome to the who that say podcast your podcast for the new orleans saints here on the kb radio network i am your fellow who that and host kevin reed in week three people week three is in the books and the new orleans saints drop their home opener to the Las Vegas Raiders by the score of 35 to 27, bringing their record to one and two on the season thus far. Let me tell you, this is not going to be a long show today. The reason being, the reason being not because I'm mad, you know, or anything like that is that I really don't have anything new to say. Nothing new to say. I am so frustrated with this team and every single week it seems like it's like it's groundhog's day. We're doing the same thing over and over and over again. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result every time but it's not working man. Now I'll give the Saints this much credit. At least this week, they started off a little better. This week, the Saints broke the streak. We actually led at the end of the first quarter for the first time in 23 attempts. That's crazy, ain't it? We finally scored in the first quarter and actually had the lead going into the second. Amazing. We actually outgained. our opponent in every single category passing yards rushing yards overall uh turnovers unfortunately which was our demise we time of possession we led in every single category and we still lost this game i i am so frustrated with it because you look back over the last three weeks, the first three weeks of this season. Detroit, Baltimore, and this team, the Las Vegas Raiders. The Saints could easily be 3-0. Not because Detroit were that good. Not because the Raiders are that good. The Saints were better each week. They were better than the Ravens last week, hence they won. they were better than these two teams and they let the game go they lost that game in detroit the turnovers the turnovers the stupid play calling the stupid refs played a part all that played a part in our demise in detroit this week same thing like i said groundhog's day we were in firm control of this game we were up by double digits in the second half, and all of a sudden the wheels came off. Stopped running the ball, refs making stupid calls, or not making calls, and turning the ball over. And we lost the game. It's the same thing. Other than their tight end, their being the Las Vegas Raiders, their tight end Bowman. can you name anybody on the las vegas raiders team that took over the game or played a part in the saints demise i'll wait i'll take your time i'm gonna go grab a coke and just let me know when you're ready to answer because there's nobody there is nobody on that team that came in and collectively just said okay we came to play i can say for the saint chris olave came to I can say that Jawan Johnson came to play. I can say that Alvin Kamara came to play. I can say that even Noah Fant came to play. All the tight ends on both sides of the ball. I think the tight ends were the only ones to score touchdowns today. It was tight end touchdown day in the Dome. But aside from that, you know, who played for the Raiders that were a threat to the Raiders? Nobody. Max Crosby, he wasn't a factor until late. He made that, what, maybe two big plays? And I guess that's the only two plays that mattered, because of the fumble on one. But, man, this is so crushing because you had the game in hand, and you lost it. Three turnovers by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth quarter allowed the Raiders to escape with a 35-27 victory. Pretty much ruining, not pretty much, but ruining the Saints' home opener in the Dome. Tyler Shuck. One day removed from his birthday. I think his birthday is tomorrow, Monday, where he turns 27 years old. He, in the first half, it was the tale of two halves with this young man. He looked phenomenal. He looked like an MVP in that first half. Four touchdowns, a career high, and then, poof, he turned into hot garbage in the second half. Oh, my God. It was murder for him. The second-year pro. Like I said, he had four touchdown passes, all of them the tight ends, but he lost the fumble. He threw an interception on that very next possession after that, and he was never no more good. Las Vegas scored on both of those turnovers, and at that point they took control of the game in the fourth quarter. The Saints had one last chance at the end to kind of tie it up, but Jawan Johnson fumbled with. 53 seconds left in the game to pretty much seal the deal for Las Vegas. They are now 3-0 on the season. Undefeated, Saints are 1-2 along with the rest of the division. Everybody is 1-2 in the division with the exception of Tampa, who haven't won a game yet. I did not have that on the bingo card. We had some injuries today. Pete Warner, who was our leading tackler going into this game, he left in the first quarter. I think the first half maybe with a stinger. Carl Granderson, he left with an ankle injury in the third quarter, but he did return. What's his name? Jennings. Afany Jennings, he left in the fourth quarter with a knee injury. But the biggest one, the most glaring one, is our running back, newly acquired running back, Travis Eachen. He left in the third quarter with a hamstring injury. And, man, it was like that's fitting because that was his best run in a Saints uniform. He came across that line or turned that corner, and he was gone. If he wouldn't have pulled up with that hamstring, he probably still running. He was gone. And as soon as he reached back, I knew it. I'm like, oh, no. Oh, no. Because. They had something going there because you had Echin and Kamara in the backfield at the same time. The Raiders' defense didn't know what to do. That formation messed their defense up because you didn't know who was getting the ball, if they were getting the ball. It was madness. It threw them off so much. But once he went down, they went away from that, and the game pretty much turned from that moment. Next week, the Saints will have their first division game at home in our first primetime game in two years, Monday Night Football against the Atlanta Falcons on October 5th. I'm not, well, I'll say the predictions or anything because I got to really think about it. I got to get over this game first. But I'm not 100% confident about that game. I'll just say it like that. Let's go over the stats of this game. Like I said, this is going to be a quick show. I have nothing to say about this team. I'm really embarrassed by them, to be quite honest with you. That was embarrassing to give a game away like that. Let's go with passing. Tyler Shuck, he was 29 of 42, 255 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. He was sacked twice today. Kirk Cousins for the Raiders, he was 22 of 32. 248 yards passing 3 touchdowns today he was sacked 3 times and let me just say this there was no reason Tyler Shupp should have been dropping back 42 times absolutely no excuse for that no excuse whatsoever the game was never out of reach actually at one point the game was well in hand we were up by two scores and you're still dropping back it was unnecessary and you lost the game kellen moore it that's it's all kellen moore his play calling is the reason we lost this game going to the rushing yardage uh travis before he went out travis eachin jr he had 13 carries for 57 yards uh tyler shuck he had one carry for 36 yards alvin camara nine carries for 36 yards kendray miller four carries for 14 yards and cj donaldson one carry for five yards i don't know what happened to him all these third and ones and fourth and ones that we tried why wasn't cj down in it please explain did he get hurt if he was hurt let me know i didn't see it on pop up on the post game report so apparently he wasn't hurt so i don't know why he wasn't in the game uh for the raiders uh ashton gentry he carried the ball 19 times for 56 yards. Mike Williams Jr. 5. carries for 54 yards and a touchdown. Kirk Cousins carried the ball three times for three yards. Leading receiver for the Saints was Chris Olave, nine catches for 107 yards today. Jawan Johnson had eight catches for 53 yards and two touchdowns. Devon Bailey, three catches for 39 yards. Noah Fant, four catches for 33 yards and two touchdowns. Travis Etienne or Etienne. I keep getting them both confused. I don't know which one is proper. But he had two catches for 13 yards. Leading receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders, of course, was Brock Bowers. They're tied in that they did not prepare for. You're not going to tell me the Saints prepared for him. He was on the injury report all week, and it was like a late decision to start him in this game. And the Saints, they act like they didn't know he was playing. He was wide open the entire game. He had 10 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown. Trey Tucker had four catches for 43 yards. Ashton Gentry, three catches for 37 yards. Mike Mayer, three catches for 32 yards and a touchdown. Jalen Naylor, one catch for 16 yards. Fumbles. Fumbles today. There were more fumbles than... the law allowed today uh uh the saints fumbled the ball four times as a team um only three of them were lost if that's any consolation um for uh las vegas raiders they fumbled the ball three times today they only lost one hence the difference uh on defense uh kate nellis he led the team in tackles with nine for the raiders it was nicole b Dean with 12. Team stats, starting with first downs, Saints had 27 first downs, Raiders 24. Total plays, Saints 72, Raiders 64. Total yardage, Saints 381 to the Raiders 340. Total drives, Raiders had the ball 12 times to the Saints 11. Yards per play, Saints 5.3 yards per play to the Raiders 5.4 yards per play. Passing, Saints led in that as well, 233 yards to the Raiders 2-2-7. Rushing, Saints outgamed them on the ground, 148 yards to the Raiders 1-13. On third downs, or red zone, I should say, Raiders were 3-4. Six in the red zone. Whereas the Saints were four for four in the red zone. That is phenomenal from a team that has struggled. That's the one improvement that the Saints have that I can kind of be happy about. That they improved upon. But on third down, Saints were nine for 15. Raiders were seven for 12. abilities. this was another big bugger boo saints had eight penalties for 36 yards raiders five penalties for 19 yards and the death knell for the saints today turnovers saints had four turnovers to the raiders one time of possession saints own time of possession 32 minutes and 28 seconds to the Raiders, 27 minutes and 32 seconds. It is a... It's upsetting to read stat lines like this. and wonder how you lost the game whereas you i mean you literally won every category but the one glaring one the one that that's that's just sticking out more than any of them turnovers you lose the turnover battle more often than not you're gonna lose the game okay uh let's go to the grades here let's get this out the way let's rip the band-aid off people uh the grades for the saints performance against the las vegas raiders in their home opener how we do the grades here on the who that say podcast i grade the offense defense special teams and coaching uh round up all those grades and give you an overall grade for today's game let's start with offense offense started off good offense was looking good uh passing the ball looked great running the ball looked even greater And then all of a sudden, the Saints forgot how to do both. Even Asim Richards, our backup left tackle, he did a great job today, I feel. I feel he did really good filling in for Calvin Banks Jr. Everything was working. Everything was working. And then the bottom fell out. It looked like a completely different team offensively. They couldn't move the ball. They couldn't run the ball. They couldn't throw the ball. They couldn't hold on to the ball. It was embarrassing. It really looked embarrassing. It's like the moment got too big for them. It's like they got a big lead and didn't know what to do with that lead, giving up 13 points in the fourth quarter. We're having opportunities to pull away, but they didn't. The offense gets a C-. And the only reason it's graded that high is because they looked phenomenal for two and a half quarters. And just flip-flop. It's weird. It's a flip-flop from the previous two weeks. They start off slow. They don't really start getting the gears turning until the middle of the third quarter. And then Tyler Shuck looks like the second coming of Drew Brees. Well, it was flip-flop today. It was the complete opposite. I don't get it, man. We cannot put a game, a complete game together on offense. But defense weren't too far off. Defense gets a letter grade of a C. They act like Bowers didn't even factor into the game plan. It was like it was no plan at all. There was no accounting for them. Even if he wasn't in the plan, people, even if y'all prepared all week and, oh, he's playing. Oh, that throws off some things. He was playing. You had to account for him. There had to be some accountability there. He's on the field. He was wide open the entire first half. Now, I'll give them just a smidgen of credit. In the second half, they kind of shut him down. Aside from that one One catch he had for a touchdown, which was big, but that was the only time you heard his name in the second half. But the first half, that 116, that was all in the first half. So I don't know what the defense was thinking. I really don't know what they were thinking. They get a C. Special teams gets a C. You get an extra point blocked. You short. kick the kickoff, giving them a short field, which they end up scoring from. It was just some real bonehead things. Now, they did get a turnover on special teams, but they also almost had one on special teams. So it was just whatever. Yeah, they get a C. Coaching gets a D. Coaching gets a D. The defensive coaching staff gets a part of that because They didn't prepare for Bowers, which was your kryptonite to date. And then you had those long drives that one drive in particular that took place after the Saints went up by the two scores. And for the first time in the game, the Raiders had to travel the length of the field, and they actually did it with ease. I mean, they went straight down the field. No resistance from the defense at all. Yeah. It got them back in the game. They just got right back in the game. Saints didn't respond after that. And offensively, I didn't touch on that enough. You know, Kelly Moore has failed. his quarterback. You know, you're putting too much pressure on Tyler Shuck. Tyler Shuck is a phenomenal quarterback. I think he is our future. He is a great addition to this team, and I think he's going to work out well, but you cannot have this man throwing 50 times a game, 42 times a game, 39 times a game, you know, all this other stuff, and you have running backs. You have running backs. You have a... A running back room where you can actually run the ball and you refuse to do it because you want to show off this nice, shiny Ferrari you have in the driveway. Instead of using the Tonka truck or that Toyota Tundra that you have in the running back room because you want to be the flashy team. No, no. Everybody is sold on Shuck. You don't need to prove nothing there. So let it go. Stop. Protect the man. Because you're going to get him killed. You're going to get him killed dropping back 40 plus times a game. And you're definitely not going to win. Overall, the Saints get a C- today. And I'm being generous. Very, very generous. Because the Saints should have won this game, could have won this game, and they gave it away. The Raiders didn't do anything. Sorry to say that the Raiders, with all due respect, they won the game. They won the game, but nothing from the Raiders screamed that we went there and took it. We went and took it away, even with the turnovers. Those were bonehead turnovers that the Saints made. They weren't forced, in my humble opinion. Maybe one, but aside from that, everything else was the Saints trying to make something happen when they didn't have to. We went down by one point, and Kelly Moore is calling plays on offense like we were down by 30 points. Throw, Throw, We're down by one point with a whole quarter left to play. What are you doing? What are you doing? Even in the end of the game, in the fourth quarter, he's still acting like we were down by double-digit. It was a one-possession game, and you're making bonehead decisions. My God, third and one, shotgun. Fourth and one, shotgun. what are you doing what is this play calling can somebody please explain this to me and this is boneheaded play calling that you will lose in any pop warner team playing uh coaching like that and you want a super bowl as an offensive coordinator i can't tell i can tell well clint kubiak won a super bowl as an offensive coordinator he knew how to protect the league Not this Yahoo. Anyways, Saints lose. Saints are 1-2. Saints, we're back at home. Monday night football. I guess we'll see how it goes. We'll see how this goes. You had the crowd engaged in this game. It was loud. It was rumpus. Everybody was into it. We're craving for this. And then you gave it away. And the crowd just went silent. I thought everybody left until they showed the crowd. Everybody just sitting there like, yep. Everybody just sitting there knowing what's to come. We've seen this movie before. The popcorn is stale. We've been here. So, man, I don't know how that Monday night game is going to be. It's probably going to be ramped up due to the fact that it's Atlanta, the rivalry game. you I also think that it's going to be more Atlanta than Saints, sadly, because there was a large number of Raiders fans in the Dome today, which was upsetting. But it is what it is. Once again, Saints fall to the Raiders, 35-27. Man, boy, I hate we gave this one away. Anyways, I would like to know what are your thoughts on this game. Do you know?
