Speaker #0Hello everyone and welcome to the concession stand here on the KB radio network. I am your host Kevin Reed and this is the review of the sequel to the 2020 surprise hit Greenland amply titled Greenland to migration this film stars once again Gerard Butler and Marina Bakaline and this is a post-apocalyptic survival disaster film that picks up right after the previous film and the first film caught me off guard i wasn't expecting much from it it was a throwaway january release and you know came out right you know right before the pandemic hit oddly enough a disaster film that came out in 2020 only for us to actually live through a disaster but it was a surprise hit in a lot of people's eyes and especially mine i i really had a good time with it i thought it was gripping to say the least you know surprisingly good one of gerard butler's best outings as a performer you know he's known for these little you know throwaway action b movies you know and this was a real stretch acting wise from him and don't get it twisted gerard butler can act you can go back in his filmography the dude is amazing i mean You can include 300, which is fine, but go back to Dracula 2000. Go back to The Phantom of the Opera. Go back to Law Abiding Citizen. You know, movies like he's really, really good. And so he really knocked it out of the park, I felt. So shockingly, I was a little hyped up for this movie and thought that, OK, at the very least, we'll get something. to that level of the first greenland and this is not to uh conflict with current events involving greenland and the guy that's in the white house right now but this has nothing to do with that politically but this is a film that follows our surviving family who must leave the safety of Greenland and embark on a journey across. a frozen wasteland of europe to find a new home this movie bored me to tears i was bored in this movie it had no excitement at all to say that i'm a disaster movie nut you know going back to the towering inferno uh the poseidon adventure and you know movies of that elk You know, I love disaster films, you know, and Greenland was in that in that little lower tier, but it was in a tier. And so I figured, OK, at least I'll get some fun special effects disaster type moments in here. It didn't hit it. This movie did not connect at all. I was bored to tears with this movie up to the point where I was. mad i got mad and that's rare when i sit sit down and watch a film and i actually get infuriated as the movie goes on because i know how this is going to end i knew when certain characters were going to die you knew immediately how this movie was going to end within the first five minutes you know involving major characters and stuff like that and what journey they had to go on i knew all that but before they even said it it was like for one there was no place to go with it and i kind of got mad at myself because i knew that this movie had nowhere to go the first movie told a singular story and that was it nobody asked for this but the movie made money and so they felt i guess they felt oh we'll we'll make another one And they threw this together. They didn't have to do this. There was no reason to extend this franchise. Didn't need to be a franchise. This should have been a one-off and now but there were some positives in his movie I did like Gerard Butler, of course big fan Rarely disappoints didn't disappoint here. He did his job all good the actor playing his son Good job. He replaced the guy of the the the guy that the actor who's Playing his son in this movie is a different actor who played the son in the first movie that's the only change that i saw as far as characters or uh performers but he did a decent job i i wasn't mad at him you know uh he didn't have much to do it wasn't it wasn't uh a lot of heavy lifting for his character and as this contribute to the writing here um aside from that character wise there was nothing to write home about now once again you go to these type of movies for their special effects for the disaster element of it that that was not there to say this movie calls and i don't like adding that into the review but you know these days you kind of have to this movie costs 90 million dollars to make that was the budget of this movie And why they pumped $90 million into this movie, the world may never know. But I didn't see $90 million on screen. I didn't see where this movie warranted that amount of money. Because the visual effects did not look good. I saw TV shows with better visual effects than this movie. I've seen lower budget films. with better special effects it was green screen central that's what it could have should have been called not green land to green screen to it because it was all green screen and you could tell throughout the movie it was just bad man and it takes you out bad cgi will take you out of a film quick fast and in a hurry and this film did that the story the story didn't make sense the you you set up that the world is uh polluted with this radiation from the comet from the first movie that you can't breathe the air you can't it's full of radiation and so we get to the we get to a point in the movie where that's not even a factor no more everybody can breathe and it's like it's fresh air everywhere except where they were held up at. And so it makes you question how were they held up there that it seemed like that was the most uh uh infected place with radiation on planet earth because nowhere else wasn't affected like that it made those it just it just didn't make sense to me and now it could have been explained away throughout the film but like i said before and i apologize for this haphazard review but i didn't catch where they say that the rest of the world is unaffected by this. Maybe I missed it. And if I did, I apologize. But I don't think I did. Now, granted, I was out of it a lot of it. A lot of it I was daydreaming about what I'm going to do when I leave or things of that nature. But I didn't catch it. I did not catch it. I was just waiting for the ball to drop with the rest of the planet to drop dead from radiation. But it didn't happen. But with all that being said, is it the worst movie I've ever seen? No. Do I think it will be the worst movie of 2026? It's too early to tell. But I can see that it's going to be running a race, man. It's going to stay there for a while. This was not. Good, not entertaining at all. I will say this, though, to kind of give it a little positive spin on this film. I'd rather watch this than watch War of the Worlds. I'd rather watch this than watch I Know What You Did Last Summer. I'll give you that. So in that regard, kudos to Greenland 2. But outside of that factor, Greenland 2 Migration gets a letter grade. a D-. Yeah, man, it it it it was just unnecessary You know if you didn't have a real solid good story, just don't do the movie. Just do something else there are so many other films so many other stories to be told as you know where that money could have went to good use other than making a sequel to greenland that really nobody asked for but you know at least at least you could have gave us an entertaining film that this film just did not deliver for me but that's my opinion on greenland 2 what did you think of greenland 2 did Did you like it? Do you want to see a Greenland 3? The Reckoning? I would love to know your thoughts. Email the show, kbradiopodcast at gmail.com. You can also search for the show on all social media platforms.
