  hello everyone and welcome to the concession stand here on the kb radio network i am your host kevin reed and this is the review of hbo's dc studios lanterns episode 7 the jordan boys legacy the penultimate episode of this first season of lanterns and i'm praying it's just the first season i hope we get multiple seasons of this show because it is phenomenal and keep everything intact don't don't switch up showrunners and all this here keep everybody engaged you know i'm loving what they're doing with this show and we arrive to the penultimate episode the episode before the season finale that airs next week on hbo and you we're still in the dark here we're still asking the big question that we've asked at the very end of episode one who killed hal jordan and what this show does a good job of you really don't know honestly you don't know we all have theories i have theories and i'm gonna touch in on a couple of theories because quite honestly there are multiple suspects here who have a case to have killed hal jordan and we're going to discuss it we're going to discuss it and uh i am i am blown away on how they are unraveling this mystery even though nothing really got unraveled in this particular episode we're coming off a quiet episode last uh last week with episode six where we kind of focused on the passing of hal jordan and uh touching in on on kerry kane who who we found out was having a relationship after hal jordan had spent time in the penitentiary and he came to kind of get repentance back to rusville uh for what took place there 10 years ago and they developed a relationship Yep. that was pretty intimate, you know, to the point where Hal opened up to her more, we find out in this episode, and told her about his father and what he basically went through as a kid and why he is the way he is. And this is how the episode begins. We pick up in Episode 7, going back to 1975. And we find a young Hal Jordan who is on this baseball team. And the baseball coach calls Hal's father to come and talk. And Hal got into it with the team, ended up fighting the whole team, his team, fighting the whole team because he didn't want to get yanked out of the game after pitching a complete game or wanted to finish a complete game. and the coach was going to yank him out in the final ending or whatever and uh hal's father pretty much stuck up for him and he ended up getting in a fight with the baseball coach himself and the two of them are sitting around licking their wounds literally both of them with black eyes and hal young hal is still holding on to the baseball that he wouldn't let go and because they they end up forfeiting the game. because of how stubbornness you know uh basically has to pry it from his dead hands which is something that he didn't let go all the way to 2016 when it came to the uh green lantern ring that's just something in him and i liked how we touched in on that kind of mindset when he was younger we always felt that he was a a-hole you know for being that way towards john stewart but this is something that was embedded in him you know uh from birth basically and we get a little backstory here with uh the relationship between hal and his father and his father was a test pilot and uh later on we find out what happened to hal's father but he tells him in this opening scene that uh that he has a lockbox that he wants hal to open up in the event that he passes away. So he gives him a key to hold on to. But we're going to revisit that in a few. But he does break down the story about... his father you know hal's grandfather and how it's this jordan board boys legacy which this episode is named after and explains how it's generational mental health you know that's that has plagued the jordan boys throughout centuries you know generation to generation is passed down and i really appreciated them going there you know because a lot of people go through that it's a family we'll call it a family curse you know but it's something i don't know is in the genetics man things that are passed down trauma that is passed down in people's lives and we just don't know where it's coming from but it's something that hasn't been addressed for generations and it's just passed down to father the son uh Mother the daughter and a mother and her son and vice versa and all this other good stuff and the show taps in on it and i thought that was a brilliant way to kind of wedge that into this show and so we learned basically this was the setup that hal has been a hothead his entire life this isn't it is nothing that john should take personally because he's like that with everybody his entire life that doesn't make uh make him right by no scratch of the imagination but it does explain why he is the way he is and so we flash back to 2026 uh after hal's father passed away and they're at the funeral and then we flash to present time and we pick up from the end of episode 6 when John got the ring back and we get the uh hologram as it's described on the show and he's looking down at his dead body and trying to find out like what happened you know how did i die and uh this is the i think the 2006 hologram um the one that wasn't updated by hal and so he he doesn't know that hal is this type of person you know that hal would have people that want to kill him who would kill me you know because he he's a hero at this time in 2006 you know who would do this and so uh he's trying to figure it out he asks uh john about the funeral i thought there was a cool little scene and john is trying to fluff it up he's like oh man it was great you know you know it was sad because everybody was there the whole core was there and uh uh mogul was there and he's like oh mogul was there yeah i stood right here with him and hal is like boy you're a liar because mogul is a planet so we get that little uh exchange between them two which sets up the banter between the hologram and john throughout this episode john explains that he needs him to speak to the box that's voice activated and only activated by Hale's voice. And, uh... the hologram doesn't want to cooperate you know because at this point he just want to know who killed you know he wants to know who kills him uh uh hal tells him about the sheriff sheriff carrie and the relationship that uh his real self had and now he wants to meet the sheriff and john is like no you know y'all had a relationship if i show up with your ghost that'll freak her out you know she's trying to get over you know she's grieving at this time but uh uh the hologram isn't budging on it so eventually he agrees and john takes him to the sheriff's office she's at the school with her son because he's about to have this hat ceremony uh to choose which college he's going to and whatnot and this is where hal explains or the hologram explains to john that you know i've done a lot of things but i don't kill you know so if all these people are dead because of me what went wrong what happened you know he's trying to he's trying to piece it together himself and they end up going to the school and meeting up with the sheriff uh noah doesn't pick a school uh he decides to wait to after the football game and so on and i think that's gonna they're setting this up for something there's something there and i'm gonna touch in on all of this uh when i get to my predictions at the end and my theories at the end which will probably be wrong but i'm gonna do it for for giggles um the hologram meets carrie carrie is freaked out by it and immediately when this happened you know the way her her reaction to it i immediately said she killed him she's the one that killed him it did after the meeting um the hologram tells john yeah she killed me you know it was her and it was kind of like an off statement you know like he really didn't meaning he's just grasping at... straws type of statement the way he threw it out there but i think i think there's some validity there because i felt that at that moment it just just the way she reacted like she couldn't believe it was him you know like i killed you you know it was that type of reaction you know i know you're dead because i'm the one that shot you type of deal and so it's just it's there it's there i know i was going to say the predictions to later but it's something there there's something there either she killed him or she knows who killed him which will lead to one of my other predictions later all right so hal and the halogram and john they go back to the storage facility where that box is he speaks opens up the box and it's just two bags in it one of the bag has like hiking gear a poncho the guns rope and uh this this uh just just rival gear gear and the other bag has a portal one of those black hole portals and the hologram explains the logic behind it like you know this is just one side of the door there's another side there you know so we got to bring it somewhere where nobody can just walk into it and blah blah blah and so they go to this abandoned uh well not abandoned it's the water tower from early on in the season that was actually hiding that that that shadow mist type stuff that was neutralizing the green lantern power and so uh it still tipped over of course and broken up so they go in there to use the portal uh they go through the portal and goes goes to this abandoned planet with it where there's this where it's like a barren pan planet with this abandoned high-tech city that's floating above the planet and there's a rowboat and a flashing flaming beacon type deal in the distance and so they also discovered that there's a shallow mass grave beneath their feet and john expressed like deja vu about it because he's seen this before he had a vision of this before and it was from antoine uh who shot that that stuff in him so he can experience what his people went through uh due to the manhunter so we realized that this is the that planet and we finally get a description of what john saw in that vision that people were jumping to their deaths and he didn't know why they were jumping in the visions and now he knows why or or what that signified that was the people jumping to their devs. jumping off of this floating city onto the uh desolate planet below and so the one thing that i did notice when they first got there everything was yellow you know it was a yellow surface and all this other stuff and we we know that yellow neutralizes the green lantern power from the comics but i couldn't picture what planet that was because i'm not really uh super knowledgeable about the Green Lantern. comic book lore i know a little bit about a little bit i know enough to hold a conversation but i don't know every aspect of the green lantern canon as but i so i couldn't pick what planet that was if it holds any weight other than the fact that that was anton's uh planet i think there's more to it but we do find out there's more to it at the end of this episode uh at least why they would dare. But while on the robo uh john starts having visions of his father and he's freaking out and you know these apples start popping up out of the water and uh his father appears put the apple on his head like what you doing shoot it off and all this other good stuff and then he gets the vision of his younger self daring him to shoot the apple off his head curse them out and all this other stuff and then all of a sudden he gets yanked into the water and gets pulled back out the water and it's the hologram who tells him that man you went to freaking out you had the gun to your head you about to kill yourself i saved your life and uh we find out that it's still that gas that's in the air that is affecting him that the same gas that affected the people on that planet that caused them to kill this their selves that was put there by the man hunters so uh all of that all of that was a cool little scene uh that he went through and then we get to the well right before we get to that the hologram breaks down and tells john what really happened to his father that his father actually killed himself he wasn't a hero he didn't just die in a plane crash he died killing himself and so did his grandfather and you know which kind of opened up the door that this was the Jordan boys legacy that they they carry this trauma this weight this pain and they end up killing themselves so he brings up the theory that maybe he killed himself and Carrie just came to the stadium to get rid of the weapon and get rid of the gun and so that opens up the door to that possible uh scenario i don't i don't think that one even though logically probably but even still i don't i don't think john well not john but i don't think uh hal would kill himself in spite of you know this is something that they do you know is a family curse if you will i don't think he did it but then again maybe he did because he's dealing with uh the uh realization of what his actions caused in rustville so it's a possibility is it is a possibility i just don't think that's the final resolution to this particular mystery but we shall see so they get to the beacon this this tower or whatever it was and then this figure in this cloak takes the hologram hostage and threatens to slice his throat and the hologram disapproves Hal punches this guy in the coat a cute little callback the hologram comes back and says great arm kid the same thing his father told him when he threw the baseball you and early on in the episode uh pull back the cloak and it's revealed to no shock that it is sinestro and so sinestro is hiding out there i don't know if he well he got broken out he was broken out of prison uh that was explained last episode by guy garner and so we knew he was coming back we just didn't know how and where and to what significance you So we know that Hal knew, not only knew, but was visiting him. But was he visiting him or did Hal stick him there? Did Hal help break him out? So many questions. So many questions. And basically that's how the episode ends. I think this is a good setup for that final episode because we are converging to... all of the answers that we've been searching for for eight weeks now and trying to find out who killed hal what is going on in rustville uh what what role has sinestro played in all of this because let's not forget when hal went to visit sinestro in prison uh what was that episode three four whenever it was when he went to visit him, we didn't hear that whole conversation. We don't know what all took place with that conversation between Hal and Sinestro about a month ago. So a lot could have taken place there. And Sinestro knows a lot about Jon Stewart, even before Hal showed up. So what is going on there? I think we're going to find out next week. I am super. excited this was a good episode good episode no action you know but emotionally story wise i think it was great this was great just adding to the great number of episodes we've received this season so far not a bad episode yet not yet i don't know what's going to happen in this season finale. Will they stick the landing? have no earthly idea but so far so good man this this has been an excellent build-up to what ultimately is going to take place at the end we already know we already know that john stewart will end up being the green lantern because he has been confirmed he actually filmed scenes we've seen pictures of him on set in man of tomorrow the next film in dc with superman and lex luther and all that good stuff so he he is a green lantern in that movie so we know by the end of next week's episode you he will be a Green Lantern. Now, what part will Guy Garner play in all that? Don't know. Don't have an earthly eye, dear. What's going to happen with Sinestro? If you looked at next week's preview, I think there's a lot going on with the hell of it all because I had a theory about the clone theory. And it looks like that might be a possibility next week. I think they kind of hinted to that in that episode trailer. So, man, I'm looking forward to it. Going to my theories about who killed Hal Jordan. I already touched in on Carrie. Is Carrie the one? I'm leaning, I would say, 51% with Carrie. I think she probably killed him. Now, I don't think she killed him out of malice. I think that was a request. I think Hal asked her to kill him and set John on this path. I think that's, I think, because Hal has a sick mind like that. Rather than apologizing to him at the cafe, he would rather do this. You know, that sounds like Hal. Now, that's my 51. percent theory my other theory is noah they keep focusing on noah these last what two episodes for some strange reason and there's something there let's not forget that zoe had this real close relationship to noah you know they they were very close too close Almost to the point where he is a manhunter. Almost to that point. So, I don't know if he's a manhunter, but I think he has something to do with Hal's murder. Hence, once again, Carrie probably trying to cover it up to protect her son. That's another theory. I give that 33%. The rest... of the percentage you could probably swing it with hal committing suicide just by itself sitting in those bleachers but that's yeah i don't think that's it i'm just throwing it out there just to give it a third option but the first those two carrie doing it at the request of hal and noah doing it and carrie covering it up those are my two i'm sticking with that I'm sticking with that. I don't think Sinestro killed. Why would he? And why would he kill him and go back to and be stranded on this planet? That wouldn't make sense. And so I'm thinking it's those two. But we'll see. We'll see. Very excited for the season finale next week. Awesome episode.
