Speaker #0right hello everyone and welcome to the concession stand here on the kb radio network i am your host kevin reed and this is the review of the third installment of this magical heist franchise now you see me now you don't in this new film we have returning stars jesse eisenberg woody harrison dave franco uh uh isa fisher lizzie caplan who shocked me i didn't know she was going to be in the movie she's in the film as well as morgan feet freeman with some new additions to the cast with Justice Smith, Dominic Salsa, and Ariana Greenblatt. as well as Rosamund Pike joins the cast. This film is directed by Reuben Fletcher, who I'm a fan of. A fan of. He gave us such films as Zombieland, which was great. Loved Zombieland. He also directed Venom, the first Venom, which I can make an argument was pretty good. It's not great. It's not Venom, but it was a good little movie. uncharted my favorite video game coming to life on the big screen crashed and burned i i hated that movie because i'm a big fan of that video game series and he he he really uh he peed in my cheerios i would say in that movie but he joins the cat uh not the cast but he directs this installment of this franchise and this is a film franchise that i didn't think would become a actual film franchise i saw the first one in 20 what was it 2013 when the first film came out super enjoyed it i really enjoyed the first film the second film not so much you know it took a real step back uh as far as the quality compared to the first film and so i wasn't super excited about seeing this third film and that's why it took me so long to go see it, but... I did see it. I did go see it. And just like the title says, I wish I didn't. I wish I did that. I was let down immensely by this film. And it is crazy because I had zero expectations going into it. You know, I just thought it would be a, you know, a nice watch, uh, two hours to turn my brain off and get into a good heist film because I like heist movies. not so much the magical element of it all but or the illusion i should say but i like ice films this film didn't get there it everything about this movie sucked it's nothing else i don't know any nice way to say it it really was a bad movie and i don't understand how they messed this up you had everybody returning you had some i mean i'm a fan of every member of this cast every member of this cast is great how you manage to make everybody look bad in this movie is beyond me it should be classified as magical itself it's like a magic trick i don't understand how you made these actors look this bad the screenplay was just that bad the plot was just that bad this felt so thrown together it's not even funny Let me tell you how bad it is. Rosamund Pike is one of the great actresses currently working today. She doesn't get a lot of work. You don't see her in a lot of things, especially big budget-wise. You know, a lot of people know her from Gone Girl, where she just crushed it in Gone Girl. That was probably one of the best female performances in the last 20 years, in my humble opinion. She... killed that role no pun intended that was that was amazing and and other properties i've seen her in other other uh films that i've seen her in tv shows i've seen her in she has nailed it she's never mailed it in and she didn't mail in this performance to be honest with you but my god she looked so bad she looked so out of place in this movie it is like why did you even take this role. Why? Why take on this role? Anybody else could have took that role, honestly. And it would have. probably had the same effect honestly if i would have took the role that she played in this movie and it was me in that role even as the female a german female it or south african i don't know i don't even know what her accent is but i probably would have had the same effect that roseman pike it was that bad man it was that dry of a role and she's the main villain here You know, this is the villain. You know, you're supposed to step it up every movie with the villains. Last movie, even though I didn't 100% enjoy it, man, you had Daniel Radcliffe. You had Harry Potter as the villain. I mean, come on, man. You couldn't do nothing but enjoy that film, you know? And so you have Rosamund Pike here, and you think, okay, Academy Award winning actress, multiple uh awards in her career she's gonna add some gravitas to the role no no she didn't she didn't did nothing but it's not her fault all of the actors were bad in here all of them morgan freeman just uh jesse eisenberg i don't care you name it they were bad but it's not their fault and that's the main thing i walked away from this movie with They were truly trying. You know, you hear this trope in a lot of reviews and read it in a lot of articles or critics' response to films throughout time where they say, well, the actor, they did the best they could with the role. It's becoming somewhat of a cliche. But in this movie, honestly, it's the truth. It is 100% the truth. Everybody here was trying. Every single... actor and actress was trying so that's why i really can't put my foot on their necks about how flat and wooden the performances was they did the best they could with what they were given this screenplay was probably the worst screenplay this year i'm just gonna put it into this year because i don't have time and my brain doesn't have the time to go over all the films throughout history. But the first reaction is of all time to me. It was that bad. The plot was that bad. Things happened in this movie that made no logical sense whatsoever. And I know we're dealing with illusions and whatnot. You know what the allure of the first movie was? Yes, the illusions or the magical elements of it. We know that it had some help with movie magic and whatnot. But it felt genuine. It felt... real it felt like a real illusion it felt like he was going to see david copperfield or david blaine uh or uh what's the other one in vegas chris angel or something like that it felt like a show like that and but that's what i didn't too much care with the second film they relied too much on the special effects to get things over and this film they really went into the special effects to get things over to where as I didn't believe nothing that the characters were doing i did i believe i believed nothing because it made no logical sense it is impossible magicians couldn't pull that off you know real lifelong illusionists couldn't do the stuff that they do because it's impossible to do it is not a thing that is not the stuff is not a thing and so it made no sense then we talk about the heist the heist which is the mcguffin or the the uh crust of the story that was dumb that was a stupid setup the horsemen who are the world's greatest magicians the world's greatest illusions the world's greatest heist thieves or whatever you want to call them they were they were renegaded to background players they're supporting players for this new team this new youthful team or whatever who pretty much orchestrated this thing and i didn't see the point of them in here other than the fact that they're kind of passing the torch i guess what they were trying to do but they didn't do a good job of doing that you know it had they set that up a little better i could have rolled with it but it it just didn't work it did not work there was no reason for the horsemen to be in this movie. None. They played no factor in the outcome. They had no bearings on how things played out to get to the outcome. It was pointless. It was seriously pointless. I wish I could get into spoilers, but I don't. I really don't want to. Initially, I was. I was going to go on here and just go full spoiler. But I said, no, no. You need to see it for yourself. You need to experience it the way that I did. You need to feel the dread that I felt when I sat there. And watch this unfold, if you want to call it that. It was so dumb. You had a twist in here that was... Now, granted, I didn't see it coming, per se, but I did see it coming. I did see it coming because of the way that the movie was quote-unquote set up. I didn't see it coming because of the way the movie was filmed. It made no sense. You had a twist with a character that just popped up at places, that disappeared in parts of the movie, just vanished. Nobody talked about it. Like, oh, where's so-and-so? You know, or why did so-and-so disappear? And stuff like that. And you're like, okay. Now, when you had to reveal, you couldn't help but say, I knew that was coming because he wasn't there. but I, this was just bad execution. And I don't know why I'm so upset about this movie, honestly, because like I said, I went into it with no expectations. I didn't, I'm not a, now you see me purist, you know, like, oh my God, this isn't, this isn't mine. Now you see me, this sucks. No, that's not the reason. I just, I feel offended. I feel like they are trolling me or something. You know what I'm saying? Like they made this movie just to make the movie and make money. Now, the movie made money. And nine times out of ten, we're going to get a fourth film in this franchise. They definitely set one up at the end. But it's pointless at this point. It's like, why? Why? Just stop. Just let it go. Because nothing is worse. Nothing is worse. than going to a theater, spending your hard-earned money just to sit there for two hours and have your intelligence insulted. And that's what this movie does. And it's infuriating. So if you're going to try this again, I'm not. That's it for me. I'm out. I'm out with this third one. You know, they can make a fourth one. Steven Spielberg can sign on to direct, and I'm still probably not going to watch the fourth. I'm I'm I'm done. I'm good. I'm good with the now you see me. You can vanish, you know, go off into the sunset, the four horsemen. But as far as this one, nah, it's not for me. Now, I will say this. It's been all negative, but I will say this. There were a couple of scenes in here that were really good. I like there was a scene in here with Woody Harrison's character and Rosamund Pike's character. They were in an interrogating room having a scene, having a discussion. Loved that scene. That was the best scene in the movie. It really saved the movie from a flat-out F. But it was really good. But those were two top-tier actors and actresses who were in their element, man. They were just there. You know, it was a camera, a table, and two chairs. And they did their job. Loved it. you know loved it loved that scene uh there was another scene there was another scene but now i'm blanking on it because i knew it was two it was two good scenes that were really good that i was like okay this is this is interesting it really kept me hooked in it but i can't even remember that scene that it must not be that good but all in all now you see me now you don't is not uh not a good movie. not the worst thing i've seen you know but it just feels like this franchise has run its course now you see me now you don't gets a letter grade of a d minus yeah it just didn't it just didn't click obviously if you listen through this whole if you listen through this whole 15 minute uh rant about the film but that's just one man's opinion i know there are people that probably love the movie and that's the beauty of movies is all subjective you know what worked for me may work for you what doesn't work for you may work for me and it's all good because it's it's all film it's all art it's all subjective i'm just one man standing behind a microphone giving his humble opinion but i would love to know yours what did you think of now you see me now you don't did you like it did you enjoy it are you looking forward to a fourth film in this franchise I think they announced it if i'm not mistaken because the movie made money it did good at the box office so is it keeps making money for uh the studio so they're gonna they're gonna continue to chug these out so i would like to know your thoughts of the movie email the show kbradiopodcast at gmail.com you can also search for the show on all social media platforms just search for the kb radio network and while you're at it if you're on youtube subscribe to the kb radio network channel like this video as well don't forget about the five stars the reviews and sharing this show if you're listening on apple podcast spotify iheart radio wherever you are currently listening to the concession stand here on the kb radio network everybody thank you for joining me for this review of now you see me now you don't everybody have a happy thanksgiving see you on the next go around until then i want you all to know that i love you continue to love everyone and until we speak again you all be blessed
