Speaker #0Hello everyone and welcome to the concession stand here on the KB radio network. I am your host Kevin Reed and this is the review of peacemaker season 2 episode 4 entitled need i say door and this show is part of the dcu brought to us by james guns dc studios and hbo max starring john cena as the title character and this episode picks up directly after episode 3 where we last left Chris returning to his own dimension after spending a day in this parallel dimension where his version or the version of himself lives the life that he always wanted. A loving dad, his brother is still alive and had a past relationship with hardcore so uh this is everything that he dreamt of he is celebrated as a hero i mean the world is basically in the palm of his hands in this dimension so he returns back to his own only to find out that argus led by uh rick flagg senior is hot on his trail so this episode begins with the explanation of the origins of this quantum folding storage unit if you will uh this this pocket dimension where we find a young chris and his brother uh being led by his father played by the great robert patrick uh going on a hunting trip if you will and they stumble upon what they think is a deer and uh his father uh what's his name on the show argi he shoots this uh, thing. thinking it's a deer but you hear the whimpering and which was very disturbing i don't know it really the way that thing was suffering really disturbed me going into this episode and uh they stopped they walk up on it and see that it's a alien or an interdimensional creature if you will and he is holding or it is holding this thing this little uh pseudo briefcase if you will and argi finishes him off but while he's shooting the thing in his head basically blowing his head off young chris you know screams out no dad don't do it and he still shoots the thing and kills it and argi being himself backhand young chris telling him basically you know i don't take orders from you who are you And they discovered that this creature was heading to this door, to the pocket dimension. As his father and his brother go off to explore this door, Chris picks up the little briefcase doohickey. And so that's where we leave off. That's the cold open to this episode, setting up the origin for this pocket dimension. Which was really good to see because it was always stated going back to the first episode Chris said that his father invented the thing, you know leading to the Assumption that his father is somewhat of a genius even though You never get to see that side of Argy throughout that episode, you know or season I should say Where he's this white supremacist and just all around evil person. Which doesn't mean that he's not a genius. But nothing about his character screams genius. At least to the level to create this pocket dimension. So this explains away or retcons that to a degree. So after our opening title sequence dance sequence that we get every episode. We pick up Chris is laying in his bed. He noticed bullet holes in his ceiling. The house is a mess. And he goes looking for Eagly. And he discovers that the house has been ramshackled. Just completely... lost to what took place in his house uh where eagly took out those argus agents including tim mellows uh the night before i believe and eagly is in the refrigerator trying to eat bologna and whatnot all the while you have argus returning on their way to the house to raid the house and get into this closet where he has the pocket dimension And who's in the van? You have, what's her name? Bardot, I believe her name, who has tied to Batman. But I don't think they're going to go that route with it. But she's in there. You have Tim Meadows' character in there, who I'm still trying to warm up to. I'm still trying to get there with Tim Meadows' character. but He's there, so I got to deal with it. You have Economos in there, and you also have Michael Rucker. And Michael Rucker, who is an awesome actor. I'm a huge fan of Michael Rucker. Everything he's been a part of, except this. Unless it gets better in future episodes, this episode did not do it for me when it comes to Michael Rucker. I just do not like that character at all. nothing about that character excites me and it's sad it's sad because it could be a good character you know but it's just it just doesn't fit to me as much as i complain about tim metal's character tim metal's character fits the show more than michael rucker's character but whatever you also have judo master in that van as well And so they're heading to Chris house. Economos is able to sneak in text to warn Peacemaker about the raid that's coming. So he scrambles to find the little briefcase that was set up in the cold open of this episode to move the door, to move this pocket dimension. Well, of course, we find this out a little later, but he finds it. He gets eagerly out the house. just in time uh argus agents pull up to the house they raid the house uh chris gets away he messages message uh daniel brooks character to come pick him up in the forest uh but he before she comes uh peacemaker has a run-in with judo master have a little back and forth fight with them too Peacemaker gets the best of them. on accident in typical peacemaker fashion gets picked up his to his grandfather's cabin in the woods to move the door and so as Argus is trying to break in the door they trying to get a economist to break into the door after he interfered with Michael Rutgers character who is a eagle hunter That's why they brought him in. Saving Eagly's life, or Eagly's life, in the process, but knocks out Michael Rooker. And Economist is stalling to give Chris more time to open up the little portal or door to the dimension pocket or whatever, pocket dimension. and Of course, dramatic, cinematic tone, able to do it just in the nick of time. Argus opens the door, or the Argus agents open the door, and it's just a closet. And so, uh, Bordeaux radios back or calls Rick Flag Jr. to inform her. So Rick Flag Jr. goes to his contingency plan, who is Amelia Hardcourt. And... they're talking and we get a little more backstory just a tad bit more backstory on harcourt's relationship with uh rick flag jr in this dimension when we find out we still don't quite know the you know the uh level to their relationship but you do know that they knew each other uh due to the relationship between her and rick flag senior And so he comes to visit, they're talking, and this was the best scene in this episode, I think. I love the chemistry between Frank Grillo and Jennifer Harlan here. Really good scene. Acting wise I really enjoyed it and we got a little nugget there it for those of us who watch creature Commandos it where Rick flag mentions about his back, you know, he had broke his back On a past mission or whatever and we know that that took place on creature commandos so a nice little way to tie that in to the Canon of the DCU and so to make a long story short rick flag senior informs hardcourt that she's been blacklisted that means she can't be a part of any government agency uh because waller put her on that list on her way out the door blaming her for the events that took place in peacemaker season one where her daughter who is danielle brooks character outed her and uh on national tv and whatnot so uh she got the blame because waller put hardcore dare you know in this group to keep a eye on everybody and that was the result so she she got the blame and rick flag senior said there is a path to redemption there is something you can do to get back in the good graces of the u.s government we want you or i want you to bring in peacemaker and this stems from what uh harcourt told rick flagg senior at rick flagg junior's funeral where she basically told uh rick flagg senior that she was going to bring the man responsible to justice and now boom we fast forward and they're friends you know not only friends but there's a possible uh relationship that is pending there so uh there's a lot of uh tentacles here that's in the works so desperate to have meaning or purpose in her life she agrees she agrees to meet up with chris to bring a man and so she can get her life back and get her job back uh meanwhile chris had uh text her to meet up and they agreed to meet. And the episode ends with Chris on his way to meet Harcourt, where Argus agents have basically set up a trap for him to catch. And that's how the episode went off. This was the weakest of the season so far. I'm not going to say I didn't enjoy it, but it didn't really get me excited for what's next. If you get where I'm coming from. I like the scene with Rick Flagg Sr. and Hardcourt here. I really like that scene. I like John Cena here. John Cena, he is peacemaker. I've stated that before. I'm enjoying his performance and everything. It just felt like a filler episode. It just screamed filler episode. This episode was here just to explain the origin. of the pocket dimension that was it that's the only reason this episode exists it really didn't move anything forward for me uh i think next the next episode will but this episode not so much uh i think it was mainly like the michael rucker character it just turned me off i was offended by his character and i'm not i'm not an indigenous person But I was offended by that character. It just didn't work for me. It did not work at all. It just felt like a caricature. It felt like they were making fun. And I didn't really appreciate it. They didn't have to go Native American for that character. They just had Michael Rucker as somebody. Just a guy who hunts eagles. And it would have been fine, but I just couldn't get past it. It didn't work for me. And the fact that this episode was so short, really nothing was developed. Nothing was developed. So I don't know, man. I don't know. I still got I'm still enjoying the season so far. And I know there's been a lot of promises ahead. You know, things to look forward to ahead with the cameos that they claim that's gonna directly set up Man of Tomorrow. You know, the Superman quasi-sequel that's coming up in a couple of years. So, there's big implications here, but as far as this episode is concerned, eh, they could've kept this one. This one did not quite work for me. that's just one man's opinion i would like to know what what did you think of episode four did you enjoy it do you think it was the weakest or did you like it did am i am i not looking at it right no i will say this full disclosure here i will say this today was a rough day for me personally i i've had a rough day today not really in the best of moods but i don't know that affected my viewing of it, but I'm not. I didn't agree to the mood. I feel a little better now, but my mood today was not a good one. So maybe that's the reason why I'm kind of moody and just didn't enjoy this episode. I'll watch it again before next week's episode. Maybe I have a different feeling. I doubt it, but maybe there's a possibility. But in any event, I want to know your thoughts of episode four.
