Speaker #0who that to the who that nation welcome to the who that's a podcast your podcast for the new orleans saints here on the kb radio network i am your fellow who that and host kevin reed and finally the new orleans saints have come out Big. Victorious on a Sunday afternoon, beating the New York Giants 34-27. The Saints are now 2-4 on the season as they travel to Old Perry to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers next year in the international game. Let me say this. Well, I have two things before we start recapping this particular game. Number one, I have picked... the Saints to lose this game and they won. So, hey, that's a slap on the behind for me for getting it wrong. But, but have I have never I have never in all the years of watching the Saints, all the games that they have won, never been this upset at a Saints victory. than i am today am i happy the saints won the game absolutely of course i'm happy the saints won but my god man my god it's like they can't do the simplest things right they can't just flat out go and win a game the saints were impressive for two quarters and that's all we can get out of this Team. under kellen moore is two quarters and so for two quarters the saints look like the most dominant team in the nfl they looked completely unstoppable and defensively it looked like you couldn't get an inch on this defense and then all of a sudden it was like okay the game's over we're up by 34 points it's no need there's it's no need or 24 i should say we're up by 24 points okay you we can take our foot off the gas as a matter of fact we can put it in park take the keys out get out the car and hit the alarm to to lock it because we're done we're good we don't need to play it anymore that was it the game just went completely out of control and for a game where you had four turnovers on defense 64 yards rushing in the third quarter alone on offense and up by 24 points for some strange reason this came down to the literal last second to hold on to this victory i can't i can't wrap my head around this team i don't know whether to be happy at the win or be upset at the conservatism of this head coach doug But the constant showing that he can't handle pressure as a head coach. How did we have all the pressure on us? And we were up by 24 points. You can't make this up. That's with them switching quarterbacks and no run game. At home, penalties are plenty for the Giants. I think they had 10 penalties today. They couldn't convert a third down. they couldn't do anything they couldn't do anything offensively yet and still they made this a game at the end now kudos to the giants i think the giants are better than what people think they are now of course at least as of right now they're at top of the division uh of the uh nfc east but i mean nobody suspects the giants to be around come the end of the football season as that team you know coming out of the nfc uh but they are a good team they're a well-coached team i will say this much and they fight they fight if you didn't watch the game last week against the washington commanders which was a pretty similar scenario i think the commanders had a 17 point lead towards the end of that game and they uh the giants came back went into overtime and they end up tying and so we know that this team was not going to go away quiet so you had to keep your foot on the gas you They didn't. The Saints did not keep their foot on the gas. Like I said, they got out of the car completely instead of just coasting to a win. Oh, but. It's a win. It is a win nonetheless. There were some impressive things that happened in this game. Number one, shots out to Alvin Kamara becoming the sixth player in NFL history to have 5,000 yards receiving and rushing in his career, as well as his 90th touchdown today against the Giants. Kudos to him. Those are Hall of Fame numbers. Now, whether he get in the Hall of Fame or not, that we'll see. But Alvin Kamara is phenomenal, a phenomenal player, and he was phenomenal today. Everything he did today, it reminded me of the old AK. I was on the edge of my seat watching him in this game today, whether it was running the ball, catching, picking up the blitz. On one play, he picked up the blitz that saved Tyler Shuck's life. Not his career, not the game, but his life. The defensive end or the linebacker who was coming on a blitz around the side. Untouched, full speed. He zeroed in on Tyler Shuck and he was coming. Alvin Kamara, at the corner of his eye, saw him coming, peeled back and blocked. And I think Tyler Shuck ended up completing that pass. It really saved Tyler Shuck because that would have been a sack fumble or worse. in that scenario so kudos to alvin camara today he played his behind off another player who played his behind off today was our cornerback martin emerson jr he i don't know what i don't know what he took today i don't know what what was in the water in new york but he played his behind off today. He had two interceptions today and was just all over the place. place they couldn't get anything in on his side i will sit there questioning why they keep throwing at emerson why they keep going at i'm happy but he could have had three intercepts but he was he was locking his side of the field down i gotta give him props today what was up with kool-aid i don't know it was he a healthy scratch or is he hurt i've looked it up i couldn't find nothing i don't know why he didn't play, but I mean, whatever. I guess we'll find out. But Emerson, man, shots out to him today. Played lights out on his side of the field, at least for a little while, until the fourth quarter when the whole defense took off. I'm not just going to single him out. The whole defense just went to bed in that fourth quarter. But we won. We won. We won. Anyway, moving on. I'm going to go through the stats. I'm gonna go through the stats and then get my grades and then I'm gonna give a kind of a commentary that I want to speak on in regards to this team and our coach Kellen Moore. So let's get the statistics out the way so we can dive into all of that because I have a lot to say when it comes to this. All right, let's go through our team leaders for the New Orleans Saints today. Tyler Shuck, he was 16 for 30, 144 yards passing, and three touchdowns. I think we need to address the Tyler Shuck of it all. Tyler Shuck looks good out there. I say good, not great. He's not at his best. One, it was confirmed before the game started, and I think he confirmed it after the game, that he's playing with two broken bones in his left hand. And... I've been saying that for a couple of weeks now. I think in that Atlanta game when he broke it, if I'm not mistaken, at the point of the game when he shouldn't have been in the game. And that raises more questions than anything, but I'm not going to touch in on that. I think I addressed that in the past. But his play has dropped off a lot since that because, one, he doesn't run the ball like he used to now i'm not expecting him to be lamar jackson out there or kyle murray or nothing like that but sometimes he's gonna have to break the pocket and run he did it today he did it a couple of times today he had a big run uh he almost scored on and the reason i bring that up is if he wasn't so skeptical about being hit and getting hurt further he would have scored on that play. I think he eased up. because he knew he was going to have to take a big hit in order to get into the end zone. We did ultimately score on that drive, but I'm just saying, you know, it plays on your psyche, and it plays on your psyche when you're getting hit constantly. We've talked about it here on the Who Dat Say podcast at nauseam, it seems, that he is being just assaulted when he drops back due to this offensive line. This offensive line is complete. garbage at least it got better though and you know when it got better you know when that offensive line woke up and started opening up holes started running the ball better started uh pass protecting better one player went down Cesar Ruiz Cesar Ruiz got hurt and uh I think it was Jeremiah Wright who who came in in his place and man that offensive line looked completely different when he was in there. Just one play. Now, it could have been the play calling. It could have been a number of things. I don't know. But on the outside looking in, I know how it looked with Cesar Ruiz, and I know how it looked without Cesar Ruiz. And it was a vast improvement. So I can only go by what I saw. But Tyler Shuck, his throws are off. He just doesn't look comfortable back there. Now, he did get comfortable once the run game started to kind of gear up in the third quarter. And he felt more comfortable working the play action, working the short passes, even a couple of deep passes. That pass to Olave was beautiful. That was his best throw of the game, that touchdown throw. But aside from that. He missed a lot of throws. He had a lot of open receivers downfield. He just couldn't get the ball to. Now, I know it's his left hand, and I know it's not his throwing hand, but for some strange reason, it's throwing off his accuracy because he's a pretty accurate quarterback. So it makes you scratch your head like, what's the problem? You know, what's going on? But I think it's more mental than anything, to be honest with you. Moving over to the passing leader for the New York Giants, you had Jameis Winston. He started the game, of course. He was 14 for 26, 152 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. After the second intercept, it was the bench for Mr. Winston, for old J-Bo. But J.J. McCarthy, who just got there a couple of weeks ago, he came in and, you know. On the outside looking in, you probably would think like, okay, the Giants are packing it in. At that point, it was like a 17-point lead by the Saints or something to that effect. And a matter of fact, on his first drive, he threw a pick. But after he threw that interception, he went on a tear. He was 11 for 21, 243 yards, one touchdown and one interception today. J.J. McCarty looked like he was back at Michigan. I don't know what happened. That dude tore the Saints' defense apart. And now, granted, it was garbage time. A lot of that Saints was in their little prevent defense that I can't stand. But he went to work on them. And as a matter of fact, not only in the air, but on the ground as well. The leading rushers to date for the Giants was J.J. McCarthy. J.J. McCarthy only carried the ball twice. for 26 yards and that one big run was for 28 yards it was it was kind of soul crushing i thought we lost at that point i'll be honest with because all the momentum has swung the giants was just they were just getting down the field with ease at that point and i was i was like well grand opening grand closing now i was ready to just celebrate that we got a dominant victory But no. J.J. McCarthy would not go quietly into the night. The next leading rusher on the Giants team was Mooney with one carry for 20 yards. They did not run the ball. Giants did not run the ball at all. I think a grand total of 20, maybe 22 times they ran the ball, and nobody ran for over 25 yards other than. J.J. McCarthy, their running back. I mean, their quarterback. And that was off of a busted passing play. You know, he just broke the pocket. And so they didn't run the ball. I don't know what the. ideal was what the game plan was for the giants why they didn't watch film because what's been tearing the saints defense up for the past few weeks to run to run and they didn't do it and they they did not do it uh scataboo didn't even play he didn't even get us that one statistic today i know he fumbled a lot he even fumbled against the saints last year And his only loss fumble. Yeah, he fumbles a lot, but he doesn't lose. You know, the team is not considered a turnover. So I guess they're punishing him, but they end up punishing themselves. You know that old saying, you cut your own nose off to spite your face? That's what happened today. For the Saints, the leading rusher was, hey, Kendrick Miller. 12 carries. I'm sorry, 20 carries for 70 yards today. But Alvin Kamara, he carried the ball seven times for 30. one yards uh cj donaldson he carried the ball six times for 39 yards today he looked good as well uh tyler shuck not to be outdone carried the ball five times for 32 yards and a touchdown a leading receiver today was chris olave for the saints four catches for 43 yards and a touchdown i want to go back and it sounds like a broken record yet again i don't think Chris Olave is 100%. I know all week he didn't practice because he was, quote, unquote, ill. He had an illness. I don't think that's it. He's been hurt. They haven't reported it, but I could tell. Once again, going back to that Atlanta game, that Monday night game, when he got hit on the knee, and he hasn't been right since. He wasn't right last week against Minnesota, and he wasn't right today. It was a couple of times today against the Giants where he got up kind of slow, a little sluggish. He just can't get out of his brakes right. You know, he doesn't look right. And once again, we revert back to why were the starters in the game? The game was over. The game was literally over. There's no way the Saints could have came back at that point of the game, but you still had your starters out there. Tyler Shuck got hurt. Chris Olave got hurt. Alvin Kamara got hurt, but he bounced back. But, I mean, come on, man. That decision has affected your team. It affected your team for the last two weeks. And so, yeah, it's decisions like that. Receiving for the Giants, their leading receiver, I should say, Malik Nabors, 12 catches for 165 yards. He was. A lot of that was in the fourth quarter. He was pretty quiet until the fourth quarter, and then he unleashed the beast. He went off on the Saints defense. They forgot to put safeties in the backfield. They were just, I don't know how everybody was getting behind this defense. I don't know what defense that was. I have no idea what defense they were calling in that fourth quarter. Team stats. Starting with the first downs, the Giants had 23 first downs to the Saints, 18 on third down efficiency. Giants were 4 for 14 on third. Not to be outdone, the Saints were 4 for 15 on third down. Total plays ran, Giants ran 72 plays to the Saints, 68 total yardage. Saints had 319 total yards today to the Giants 461. Both teams had 16 drives apiece. Yards per play, Saints 4.7, Giants 6.4. Passing yardage total, Saints had 144 passing yards to the Giants 377. In rushing yards, Saints had... 175 rushing yards today. We got to give that a standing ovation. I think that's probably the total for the past two weeks. If you go back the last two weeks, Saints probably totaled that. If they do, it's going to be very close. I don't know. I don't even think they had that much. So kudos to the Saints for that. The Giants, on the other hand, had 84 yards rushing today, which is a shock. I didn't even think they had that much as a team. In the red zone, the Saints were 100% in the red zone. They were 3-for-3. Giants were 2-for-4. Pilots, Saints had 7 pilots for 52 yards. Giants, on the other hand, 10 pilots for 73 yards. Turnovers, Saints had one that won a fumble by Donaldson that kind of turned to tie. That's really where things started to go haywire for the Saints that started the road that the Giants went on in the fourth quarter. And the Saints had four turnovers, getting three interceptions and a fumble recovery on a kickoff return. time of possession saints had the ball for 31 minutes and two seconds to the giants 28 minutes and 58 seconds just to recap the saints are two and four on the season so far and one game out of first place in the division that just goes to show you how bad the nfc south is uh atlanta lost tampa lost uh carolina won today but uh For those of you who care about that certain thing and really have high hopes for this team, they're only one game out of first, so there you have it. There you go. Today's rankings, you know how we do it. We rank the offense, defense, special teams, and coaching, and give an overall grade for the New Orleans Saints in their week six victory over the New York football Giants. Starting with the offense, the offense gets a B. plus today they they once again you know we got the slow start yeah that's to be expected but once the game started to settle down for the offense they looked like a well-oiled machine uh they they were running the ball efficiently tyler shuck looked comfortable in the pocket and they just went on a tear they they they scored on i think what uh five scrape possessions or something like that it was like uh money it then all of a sudden it disappeared in the fourth quarter but it it still it still looked impressive for two and a half quarters there enough to secure a victory because we needed every one of those points the offense gets a b plus the defense gets a c plus the defense man i don't know it's i can't put my finger on this defense I don't know whether to hate him or... or like them because they'll do some great things defensively. Once again, you can't go on a 34-0 run unless the defense steps up, unless you get turnovers, forced turnovers, and get sacks and quarterback pressures and things of that nature. That's the only way you can go on a 34-point run. in in an NFL football game. So they did a really good job. Like I said, Martin Emerson, he was phenomenal back there. The defensive line looked like they were getting a lot of pressure on Jameis Winston as well as J.J. McCarthy at times. But they just went into this pre-vent, and I wouldn't even call it pre-vent because at least pre-vent keeps everything in front of you. So I don't know what this was, whereas everybody was getting behind the defense at the end of the game. With ease. With ease. It was the most baffling thing I was watching throughout this game. Like, what are y'all doing? What is the goal here from the defense? I don't know. But this is a team that's one-dimensional. Why is everybody up on the line in the first place? They're down by 24 points. They're not running the ball. They haven't run the ball all game. And so what are you scared of? What exactly are you scared of about the backfield? I would have everybody back there. You know, I'll be in Hail Mary coverage for the remainder of the game. I'm keeping everything in front of me. This team didn't do it. This defense did not do it. They got lucky at the end because. no matter how great martin emerson was playing today he got away with a pass interference on that last play uh he really because he did pull a little boy arm down but that was kind of a i think that was more of a makeup call from that stupid roughing the passer call that was on uh oh god who that was on i can't remember who it was on but he hit james winston And they gave him a rough in the passer. He didn't land on top of him. He didn't go helmet to helmet. He didn't go low. And he didn't slam him on the ground. I'm trying to figure out what was he supposed to do. I mean, touch him, two-hand touch, pull the red flag out of his belt loop. What was he supposed to do? It was just a make-up call, I believe. That's why they didn't throw the flag. But either way, the defense gets a C+. The special teams gets a C+. Aside from the punter. The punter gets an eight. Let me just shout him out. He did some, he put the Giants offense in some real bad predicaments. Saints defense just bailed him out of it, especially early on in the game. But you start off opening kick, and it's short. It don't even land into the landing zone. You give the Giants good field position. Look, Carson is not a good kicker. and I've been screaming this for a couple of weeks now, they need to bring in a kicker. They need to bring in somebody at least to challenge him, to get his mind right. Like, look, you on the hot seat, buddy. You need to get your act right because missing extra points or missing field goals, rather, and extra points, but he missed a field goal today, a 55-yarder. It's crazy. He missed the 55-yarder, but he hit the 50, what was it, a 58? And almost, was it 258 or something like that? Yeah, I mean, hit him good, too. But he missed the 55, y'all. It's stupid stuff like that. And who knows? That missed field goal almost played a part in the outcome of this game. And so we need to fix that and fix it quick. Now, we did get a turnover on the kickoff. Special teams, I should say. Like I said, it's hot and cold. It's so inconsistent on all three phases of this team. It's almost like it's playing. It's almost like it's scripted to be this way because you can only practice being this inconsistent. But, yeah, they get a C+. Coaching gets a C-. I'm tired of the I'm just tired. I'm tired of killing more. I am I am tired and I'm gonna get more into it after I finish this but this guy ain't it this guy is not it overall today the Saints get a c-plus in the victory so let's get into it I've teased it enough this this game here this game here convinced me more than any other game that Kellen Moore is not a good coach I don't know what more you need to see I don't know what more you need to come out of his coaching style to see that this guy is way too conservative. He's way too scary and he falls under pressure. He allowed the Giants to get back in this game with the conservative play calling. It was too early to pull Tyler Shuck out the game. Now, I was all for taking him out the game when we got up big. But there was 10 minutes left in the game. I can see if it was like six, five minutes left, maybe even seven minutes left in the game. Fine, but it was 10 minutes left in the game, and you're up by 24. Now, you look at it in the grand scheme of it all, the defense was playing well and all this here. I get it, but at the same time, you are coaching for your job. You need to show. Gail Benson who was sitting in the press box or wherever it was the suite she was in over there at MetLife Stadium watching you firsthand looking down on you after making a statement that she made earlier this week you needed to act like man I need to pull everything out of my hat I need to call this game like like it's the Super Bowl I need to run up the score I need to score on every single possession. I need to show her I can care less about Kevin Reed in his stupid little podcast. I need to show her that I am worthy of this job. And he didn't do it. He did not do it. Kellen Moore looked great in that third quarter. Kellen Moore looked like a competent head coach in that third quarter. They ran the ball, which opened up the pass, which opened up every other receiver being open, which made Tyler Shuck more comfortable. And the offense was moving with some efficiency. They were going up and down the field, looked like they were just playing pitch and catch in that third quarter. They were having fun. there was some energy there was some swag the defense looked like they were having fun they pinning their ears back they had some swag everything was clicking and i was like yeah this is what i was hoping for this is what i was wishing for when they hired this clown this is what i want if we can get this going forward i'm on the kellen moore train um that's all i want I don't want to start over with another head coach. I don't want to go through all this again. But if this is what we got, is this the best? This was the best game that we're going to get out of this Killingmore Saints team. This is it. I hope y'all like it. I hope y'all love it. I hope y'all bottle it up and put it on your mantle because this is it. You're not going to get any better than this. You're not going to get. any better than this and it came down to the last second to secure the victory against a Giants team that wasn't even trying to win that's what upsets me you think you can do this against a Pittsburgh Steelers no indeed no you think you can do this against a Cleveland Browns after we come off the bye no no you're not you cannot do this against any other team you can't keep doing these second half heroics every single week and think you're going to be one of the top teams in the nfc or one of the top teams in the nfc south it's not going to work and we cannot build anything off of this you're getting your quarterback killed you're putting way too much on his shoulders he come on man the dude is still technically Leo. rookie and you're putting all this weight on him i see teams but teams don't put veterans veteran quarterbacks under this much pressure but kelly moore feels he can do it to tyler shuck look at the kansas city chiefs kansas city chiefs got one of the best quarterbacks currently playing in the nfl but with mr patrick beholmes right that he is he is phenomenal one of the best but what did andy reed do andy reed went out there, and went and got the best running back you can get because he needs a running game. All the pressure is off Patrick Mahomes right now. Patrick Mahomes, all he had to do was turn around and hand the ball off to Kenneth Walker. And Kenneth Walker is my God. I don't know what Seattle was thinking, but he is running the air out of that ball in Kansas City. And it's taking all the pressure off him. and they're currently undefeated at the time of this recording. And so they don't put all the pressure on Patrick Mahomes. They put all the pressure on Josh Allen, and look how that's turned it out. Josh Allen is a phenomenal quarterback. I love Josh Allen. But Josh Allen, it's too much pressure on him, and he can't handle the pressure. He can't handle it. It's too much. It's too much. You cannot do this to Tyler Shuck. You're going to ruin his career. You're going to shorten his career. And we're going to end up searching for another quarterback in the next two to three years because you done broke this man. He's already half broken, literally. His hand ain't working. So, you know, it's too much. But this is all Kellen Moore's fault. And for those of you who don't think that's Kellen Moore's fault, you don't know football. Keep your opinions to yourself. You don't know football because it's the job of the head coach to develop a young quarterback like this. This is a young quarterback. There's no reason he should be out there looking like a deer in headlights every single week. He looks the same. He has not grown. He looks like the same player. We have been blessed to have gotten this far off of the sure talent of Tyler Shuck. It's not because of Kelly Moore's system. It's because of the talent of Tyler Shuck. It's because of the talent of a chris olavi and uh uh the veteran leadership and talent of a Alvin Kamara and so on and so forth is all the talent of these guys. It's not because they're being developed by this head coaching, this head coach and the coaching staff. And I'm sorry, I can't, I can't sit there and say, okay, we won the game. All right. Kelly Moore is safe now. No, no, no, no, no. He needs to go. And, and after today he needs to go even more so he needs to go after this game even more than he had to go after he lost that three game homestand that we had because this was this was embarrassing this was this was embarrassing that you allowed this team to come back on you the giants aren't that good yeah they're good don't get me wrong all due respect to the new york giants But they're not that good. Technically, technically, J.J. McCarthy is the third-screen quarterback. There's Jackson Dart, then Jameis Winston, then J.J. McCarthy. But I couldn't tell today. J.J. McCarthy looked like the first-screen quarterback. He looks like the starter. And the dude just got there two weeks ago. Two weeks ago. No, man, he wasn't supposed to. J.J. McCarty has never looked that good. That's why Minnesota said bye after drafting him in the first round. What, two years? Bye. They saw that he was trash, but not when he played the Saints. Not when he played the Saints. That is ridiculous. That is ridiculous. Like I said, I know it doesn't sound like that after this long diatribe I just gave, but I'm happy the Saints won. I really am. Because it's really embarrassing to go overseas and play this international game, first game ever in Paris, and you're 1-5. Yeah, that would have been embarrassing. Not to say that 2-4 is that much better. But, I mean, come on, man. Only one win, and you're going over there, and you're... You're representing the NFL or the United States or, in this case, New Orleans itself. And I don't know, man. And I'm not confident about next week. I wasn't confident about this one. Like I said, I had picked the Saints to lose this game. And it almost happened. It almost happened. And that's after them going on a tear. And I still wasn't comfortable. When they jumped up 34-10, I still. I still was sitting there like, man, I would still try to score here, you know, but they put they put in Spencer Rattler. I said, man, I would have gave Tyler Shuck one more series, scored another touchdown. I would have felt 10 times better. And sure enough, Donaldson fumbled on that drive. And then you had to put Tyler Shuck back in the game because you knew that these people had all the momentum and they were going to come back. And sure enough, they did. But anyways, Saints won today. Saints won 34-27. They're 2-4. They're, what, 2-1 on the road? Much better record at home. They haven't won a game at home. Maybe we need to play all our games on the road. Technically, the Paris game is a home game. So I don't know how we're supposed to look at this. but we cannot win in the Dome. Let's just stay away from the Dome. Let's stay away, but congratulations. I'm happy we did get a victory, but we need to do better. We need to get better. Now, can we build off of this? Yes, yes, of course. Let's look at the positives here. We can build off of this. It's not all doom and gloom just because we fell apart at the end. We need to learn, and I don't know how much. I don't know. I don't know when it's going to click, but we need to start fast, man. Start fast and end strong. Two basic principles in a football game. Start fast, end strong. Saints can't do neither. Thank God for the middle portions of these games, at least the two that we did win, because, bruh, it's Saints. Saints could easily be 0-6 right now, easily. But I'll take the 2-4 nonetheless. I'd like to know, how do you feel about this game? Maybe you feel differently. Maybe you're on a high. Maybe you're thinking I'm tripping right now. Like, oh, did he watch the same game? We won the game. Okay, yeah, whatever. Whatever. I'm telling you. I'm telling you. We can't keep doing this. We cannot do this every single week and expect to be a successful, dominant football team in the NFL. That's all I'm saying. But, hey, enjoy the win. Enjoy the win, people.
