Speaker #0who that to the who that nation welcome to the who that say podcast your podcast for the new orleans saints here on the kb radio network i am your host kevin reed and boy it feels like it's been a decade before the last time i've said this but the saints won the saints come out victorious in their trip to baltimore maryland defeating the ravens by the score of 24 to 17 the saints are now one and one on the season in a upset of epic proportions i mean everybody predicted including myself predicted that the saints would lose this game to baltimore i i early on early on before the season started When we broke down the first two games of the season, I felt the Saints would be one and one at this point. But I didn't know it was going to go this way. Well, I did. Actually, I said that they were going to beat the they were going to beat the Ravens and lose to Detroit. But I didn't know that the Saints were going to have the level of fight, the level of dog in them that they have this season. This team is a different team. Now, there are some issues here, and we're going to go over the issues that the New Orleans Saints have that needs to be corrected going forward, because, honestly, we can't keep doing this. But we'll get to that in a moment. But this team, the fight in this team, is such a breath of fresh air. It really is. I remember those teams, and we don't have to think back too far. Just a couple of years ago, Saints go down by three points and you would, they would react like they're down by 30. You know, the dejection on their face is in their play, you know, taking plays off and just packing it in. I remember those games and it was brutal to watch, brutal. Now we get a Saints team just last week down by 21 points, fought back. got pushed it to overtime and almost won that was fight that i love to see from the team this week pretty much the same scenario it was what 14 to 3 or 14 to 6 at halftime uh saints kept going you know early on it looked like derrick henry was going to rush for 200 yards on the saints after after the second half that it looks like The Saints bottled him up. He did nothing in the second half. I actually think he was hurt. I think he was really hurt because he went to the sideline. He was kind of squinting like he was tackled on his head or something, and they really didn't give him the ball much, and they went away from him later on. But the Saints did that. The Saints caused him to not be a factor in this game. You look at Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson has been a Saints killer his whole career. And it looked like that early on. Early on, I don't think he threw an incompletion until late in the second quarter. He was just slicing the Saints defense apart. And I was like, well, this is going to be a long game, you know, defensively. But Chase Young stepped up. He was applying pressure, got a sack and a half today. Caden Ellis, Pete Warner, they were getting back there. you know so this team has a lot to be proud of the who that nation has a lot to be proud of i am excited to see going forward what this team can do now that they're in the position that they need to be in at at 500 two games in uh with the rest of the division looking like hot garbage i mean garbage uh the atlanta falcons god bless them The Atlanta Falcons look like the worst team in football right now and no signs of getting better. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, at the time of this recording, that game is still at a delay. And it's been about two hours since the Saints game went off, or an hour and a half since the Saints game went off. And Tampa hasn't took to the field due to weather delay. But I... I can't believe that they're losing that game to Cleveland. Late. It is mind-boggling. Then you look at Carolina. Now, Carolina is the one who beat Atlanta. Somebody had to win that game. But Carolina just monkey-stomped Atlanta. But, I mean, you take that with a grain of salt because it's Atlanta. They turned the ball over about a million and one times in that game. They went down to their fourth-string quarterback in that game. And so Carolina had no choice but to molly-wop them. So, I'm... I'm confident that the Saints, the Saints, the only consistent looking team, they look consistently good in spite of the faux pas that they start off the game with. Once again, the Saints start off a football game not scoring, not producing points in the first quarter. This is an issue, man. This is a serious, serious issue. We can't do this. We Week in and week out, every single game, the Saints have to fight from behind, putting all the pressure on your young quarterback, putting all the pressure on your defense to try to hold your opponent down to get the ball back to the offense, who is struggling as well, and putting it all on Tyler Shuck to go down the field and score. Now, it's worked out for us in the last two weeks, not so much the first week, But he... we we were in position to win but we can't do this every single week man i don't know what kellen moore problem is i'm gonna say this and this is coming off of a win an exciting win i'm gonna say this with my whole chest kellen moore can't coach bruh he cannot coach this dude did some of the most bonehead play calls in this game i'm gonna be honest and keep it a buck with y'all baltimore ravens did not look good today this is not the baltimore that we known for all these years under john harbaugh who's no longer there he's in uh with the giants now and you can tell you can see the difference and that's why i picked the saints to win this game uh early on i figured that baltimore would not it would not be the same team and they weren't the same team. This team looks slow. Now, granted, they were missing a lot of pieces. Zay Flowers didn't play. That played a huge factor for them. Another receiver didn't play either, I don't think. But they had nothing going on in their receiving game. Other than Andrews, Mark Andrews, their tight end, who was wide open. He's the only thing they got, and he was wide open. Whatever. I'm not going to beat up on a defense. We will not have any defensive slander today because the defense won this game. Yeah, Tyler Shook had a good game. Tyler Shook was excellent, especially in that second half. Again, he was excellent. But this was not an offensive win. This was not their comeback. This was all defense. Defense stepped up, got them up. Ravens off the field when they needed to and put the Saints offense in position to win this game. And they did. And so I tip my hat to the defense. But Kelly Moore, with not committing to the run, constantly having Tyler Shuck in, it's short yardage plays now. It'll be third and two, third and three, something of that nature. And Tyler Shuck's in shotgun, telegraphing. the piss out of the play everybody can see this coming we know what play you're about to run and the defense knew what play they were about to run every time uh baltimore was blitzing on every first down in the second half because they knew they were going to run the ball they knew they were going to run the ball what did kelly moore do run the ball when you want him to run the ball he don't when you need him not to run the ball he do it's like he's opposite man for dc or marvel i don't understand him he is he's a bonehead he is really boneheaded at times i i don't know i don't know what to say i'm trying not to get too mad because we won the game you know but i'm looking towards the future i'm looking ahead and of course there's no way on god's green earth You can continue to sustain this level of play, this style of play. week in and week out and expect to come out victorious expect to be there at the end that's not gonna happen that's not gonna work you're gonna find yourself in a position where you're getting blown out of games blown completely out saints had the opportunity now like i said saints came back that they won the game but the saints could have had control of this game in spite of everything that was happening saints kicked three field goals in the first half well no you two in the second quarter one um in their opening drive i believe and so it was nine points right there you turn one of those just one of those field goals into a touchdown this is different ball game the saints are in the in the control of the game um the one touchdown was the one they were in the red zone they actually were in scoring position and couldn't do nothing why because once you got in the red zone kelly moore decided you to call three straight throws three then you didn't attempt to run the ball this was an aggressive defense you know they were coming they were coming to take tyler shuck's head off this was the short intermediate game type play calling game you know the dump off passes the screen plays and then the screen plays that they did call was so stupid It's so slow in development that it didn't work. Just keep it simple. And Kelly Moore doesn't do that. He needs to tighten it up. That's the whole point of this rant here. Tighten it up. Just tighten it up. He outcoaches himself. Kelly Moore can be a good coach. He can be an awesome coach for the New Orleans Saints. But he's his own worst enemy. He's his own worst enemy, and it's frustrating to see. Very frustrating. But in spite of all that, the New Orleans Saints come out victorious today. And look, as much vitriol I have today towards Kellen Moore, that's the only one I'm really mad at today. Everybody else that got on the field today came to play, offensively and defensively. Maybe not Travis Eachin. I don't know what's wrong with Trav. What's wrong with what's going on with him because he is not running that ball with conviction. Now granted he's not getting the ball enough you know because we're not running the ball but when he does get the ball it's not with any conviction. He only had 25 yards rushing today. Come on now that's unacceptable in peewee football. You cannot you cannot not. sit there get paid 50 million dollars and only give me 25 yards rushing that's not gonna work for me that's not that's not gonna cut it baby i don't know if he's hurt not telling anybody or is it the play calling is it the offensive line i don't know but this this run game they gotta fix this bro they gotta fix it and fix it fast fix it fast because this this is not this is not what we signed up for i thought that this team would be more efficient running the ball and with all of the running backs that we have right now now i know we have a few that's out you know uh uh estimate he's out uh they got rid of one of them another one uh what's his name uh chandler or is he still on the team i don't know i don't even know at this point um But you know you have Kamara, you have Miller, which I don't know why he didn't play today, which was weird. You have Donaldson, but you have him at fullback most of the time. But regardless, find a way to run this ball. Let's go over the stats. The stats for today's game versus Baltimore. Tyler Shuck, he was 27-34, 252 yards. One touchdown, and the most important one of them all, zero interceptions. Now, he was sacked three times today, but all of that's on him. I'm not even blaming the offensive line. All of those were on him. He should have stepped up, got rid of that ball quick. It was one sack. I saw he just stood back there for a good four seconds, four to five seconds. Come on now, you got to know that clock got to go off in your head. Get rid of the ball. So, he... Once again, he's young. Let's not forget, he has yet to play a full season yet. You know, technically, he's still a rookie. And so I'm not going to crucify him. But he has to speed it up in his head. Not too fast, because he was going too fast last week. And that's how we got so far behind. For the Baltimore Ravens, Lamar Jackson, he was 21 for 31, 235 yards, one touchdown and one intercept, which was the final play of the game. and pretty much a Hail Mary. I don't even count that as an interception. He was just trying to make something happen. But he was sacked three times as well today. Rushing yardage. Travis Etienne or Travis Etienne Jr. Eight carries for 25 yards. His longest carry was eight yards out of that 25. That goes to show you something. That's an average of 3.1 yards per carry. That's not good. That's not good. 50 million dollars good you know that's not a good average for a 50 million dollar running back uh our second leading rusher today was tyler shuck with nine carries for 23 yards and a touchdown which let's be honest wasn't a touchdown that was not a touchdown now since i'm since i brought it up let's let's let's let's call a spade a spade here the Jawan Johnson played two plays before that. That was a touchdown that they ruled down at the inch line. That was actually a touchdown. That shuck, I don't know what you call it, sneak, whatever it was, that was not a touchdown. But what happened was, this is my thoughts, the reason they ruled that a touchdown, because it was blatant. He didn't cross the goal line. I mean, he looked like he lost yardage, to be honest. It was blatant he didn't make it across the line. But what was also blatant was the face mask that ripped him back. That was the offense on that play, but they couldn't call that. They couldn't throw a flag on that because they missed it. But when they went to replay, they saw that and was like, you know what? We got to reward them a touchdown here. Because if we say no, oh, my God, this will be two weeks in a row the Saints got robbed of a touchdown. And so they couldn't just let that go. That's why, in my mind, that's what I think happened. Because that was not a touchdown. Kamal, he had a decent game. I say decent, but, you know, this is his first game back trying to get acclimated and all this here. They gave him the ball nine times for 15 yards, just under two yards to carry. But he looked good. He actually looked good, him cutting through the pocket and everything. Look, at the end of the day, Baltimore does have a quality defense here. I wasn't expecting the Saints to have 200 yards rushing today, but I was expecting them to do better than that. On the other side. For Baltimore, Derrick Henry had the ball 16 times and got 68 yards. I was about to say 100. They kept him under 100. 68 yards and a touchdown today. His longest rush, this was the important stat, his longest rush was eight yards. He didn't bust through. He didn't break through on the New Orleans Saints today. The defense did a really, really good job with Derrick Henry. The one shocking thing, Lamar Jackson did not run the ball much. He didn't try to, I don't know. I don't know what the thinking was for Baltimore. I'm glad they thought that way, but I don't know why they thought this way. They didn't utilize Lamar Jackson's legs. He only rushed the ball four times for 34 yards. He had a big one for 13 yards late in the game. a day kind of put him in position for a chance on that big throw at the end. But overall, he did not run the ball. He stayed on the center in the pocket. Mind-boggling. Mind-boggling. I don't know what they were thinking there. Leading receiver for the New Orleans Saints today was, of course, Chris Olave. Eight catches for 86 yards and a touchdown. He looked for that. Chris Olave looked like a number one receiver. So far this season, two games in, he looks phenomenal. He looked like he earned that money that he signed for this offseason. He looked... Awesome. It wasn't so much the catches and whatnot. It was his fighting for the ball. I saw him wrestle the ball away a few times and get some yak yardage. That play, that big third down play where he caught it short and had to fight and stretch to get the first down was paramount in our comeback. We needed that play big time, and he provided it for us. Chris Olave did his thing today. Uh, Jawan Johnson did his thing as well. Four catches for 66 yards. Uh, should have been a touchdown, but didn't give it to him. He, he was phenomenal. Uh, that third down catch he had where it was short and I'm talking short, like, like, like what, what was it about 12 yards or something? I don't know what it was. He had to go and get each and every one hurling people, uh, uh, trucking guys and all this here. That's, that's the. Jawan Johnson that I was hoping to see this season. Devon Bailey, five catches for 64 yards. He had an awesome day as well. For Baltimore, Rashawn Bateman, he had seven catches for 88 yards and a touchdown today. Mark Andrews, six catches for 49 yards. And Devontae Walker, one catch for 47 yards today. Pete Warner led. the defense in tackles today with 11 he also had a sack today a tackle for a loss as well Kate Nellis had 6 tackles tackle for a loss Carl Granderson had 5 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss but Chase Young Chase Young had 2 tackles today now you look at that and you're like that was a sorry day no it wasn't of those 2 tackles 1.5 of them were sack uh he was he was uh he was back there on lamar jackson like right on rice i was loving what i was seeing from jamar and not jamar chase but if you saw highlights of jamar chase today he looked awesome but i'm talking about chase young uh chase young looked great today uh kyle hamilton for baltimore was their leading tackler with 13 rashawn smith who i thought was going to be a Huge factor today. You barely heard his name. I barely heard his name today with eight tackles on the day. Team stats, total yardage, Baltimore had 312 total yards to the Saints, 298 turnovers today. Baltimore had the one turnover at the end of the game. Saints, zero. Look what happens when you don't turn the ball over, huh? Zero turnovers today. Both teams had 19 first downs. Penalties, Baltimore had seven penalties for 34 yards. Saints had five penalties for 35 yards. On third down, Saints were 8-4-15 today. Real, real good third down efficiency today. Baltimore was 4-9. Saints went for it on fourth down twice and succeeded. They were 100% on fourth down. In the red zone, both teams were one for two in the red zone and Saints own time of possession 32 minutes and 45 seconds to Baltimore's 27 minutes and 15 seconds. The great for today's performance against the Baltimore Ravens. In case you don't know your first time listening, first and foremost, welcome to the show. I hope that you continue to check out the who that say podcast, but how we do. the grades i grade every facet of the saints team offense defense special teams and coaching round them all up and come up with an overall grade for the saints victory over the baltimore ravens starting off with the offense offense gets a c plus uh i wanted to go higher but i just can't get over the fact this team cannot produce any ounce of offense in the first quarter It's like they just sit back and just take really the first half, you know? They take the half off, see what the other team is doing, and they finally figure it out, wait till the offensive or the opponent defense is tired, and then go to work on them. It's like the old rope-a-dope from Muhammad Ali, you know? We're going to tire out the boxer, and then when he's too tired, Then you start throwing haymakers, you know. That's what the Saints are doing. This offense does not produce. any ounce of offense in the first half of a game so far this season now if we're only going to go by second half of a game saints are probably the best offense in football right now they are lights out in the second quarter i mean in the second half but man we can't keep doing this but they get a c plus i mean tyler shuck looked great uh they need to they need to fix this run game or or lack thereof. Chris Olave has emerged as a true number one receiver. Devon Valey is your, I mean, solid receiver. Juwan Johnson is also solid at the tight end position as well. Yeah, they get a C-plus there. Defense gets an A today. A, A, A. When you needed stops, they got it. When you needed them to, uh... apply pressure, they did. When you needed them to finally put the cuffs on Derrick Henry, they did it. That's an impossible mission. You realize in the last two weeks, the Saints defense has had to contend with two top five quarterbacks, but running backs of the league, I mean, with Gibbs and coming right back with Henry. My God, man. That is a... That is a tall task. That is a lot you're asking on his defense. They really couldn't control what happened with Gibbs. Gibbs got loose on him. But for the most part, they shut everything else down over there in Detroit. Here today, now they were helped out in the fact that the receiving core for Baltimore was depleted. They really didn't have any threats receiving-wise. So it wasn't. Too difficult for them, but, I mean, you can only play who they put on the field next to you, you know, lined up across from you. So it's not their fault that their receivers are hurt, but they did what they were supposed to do. They get an A. Special teams gets an A. They block that kick or tip that kick. Field goal attempt that could have been a different game had Baltimore made those three points, you know. Now it's a two-possession game as opposed to a one-possession game at that point. Big, big block there. The punter pinning the Baltimore Ravens deep, even though Baltimore took that and went on a 97-yard drive, touchdown drive, hey, it wasn't the special teams' fault. They did what they were supposed to do. They pinned them inside the five. Yeah, I'm cool with the special teams. Then you had that big run by Brown to set up the three points at the end of the half. Needed that desperately. So they get an A. Coaching gets a C plus as well. This is all Kelly Moore, why they got a C plus. Defense, Brandon Staley gets an A. But Kelly Moore, not so much. We got to fix it, man. We really got to fix this. You are an offensive group. I wouldn't be so mad. If he wasn't this prestigious offensive guru that everybody talks about, won the Super Bowl with Philly and did what he did in Dallas and all this other stuff, okay, cool. Do it here. I'm not seeing that. I'm not seeing the 14 personnel. I'm not seeing the run game flourishing. I'm not even seeing any progression in Tyler Shuck. I'm looking at this offense and, early on actually throughout the whole game if you really sat back and look at it in its totality all the plays where the saints made big plays aside from that touchdown to olavi which was which was a real constructive play awesome route by olavi but aside from that everything else was broken plays broke down plays that were improvised by tyler shuck all of them think about it he broke the pocket, ran up, made a throw. After the safety saw him running and he was coming up to make the play, so all Tyler Shuck did was throw it over the top of him, hit Jawan Johnson for a big gain. You know, plays like that, they were improvised. They weren't because of Kelly Moore's genius of a play design. You know what I'm saying? That's why I get mad at this dude. But it can be fixed. It can be fixed. I just need him to fix it. It gets a C+. Overall, the Saints gets a letter grade of a B+. Awesome win. Big win. Must need it win. They needed this win. They really did. Look around the South, people. Look around the South. Atlanta look like the worst team. So, I'm not going to say they're not a threat. But, okay, you got a nice little cushion on them. Tampa. This game, what, I've been recording for what, about 30-something minutes now? It's still delayed. I don't know what the outcome of that game is going to be, but my gut is telling me Cleveland is going to win that game. Carolina is Carolina. Carolina is exactly what I thought Carolina was going to be, a threat. They're going to be the Saints' biggest threat this season in this division, just like they are every year. But it's always a battle between these two teams. And so they're going to fight it out towards the end. Everybody else, not so much. But you need to keep up with at least the Carolina Panthers. You know, they're one and one. We're one and one now. And so we're in good shape. So up next for the New Orleans Saints, the Saints will finally, finally make it to the Dome. next week when they host the Las Vegas Raiders. Now, on paper, this should be a win for the Saints, but I'm not going to jump out the window yet. We'll see how that goes, how we're going to play this. I'll be right now, time of this recording, the Raiders are winning. The Raiders are beating the Chargers. Yeah, wow. Okay, it's at halftime right now, so we'll see. We'll see how that plays out. The bottom could fall out for them, but either way, plus that's a division game. You know, that's going to be a tough one anyway. But we'll see how that plays out. We'll have our preview to that game at the end of the week before we take the field. But how are you feeling after this Saints victory? Are you happy? I'm happy. I am ecstatic. It may not come off as that, but I am super, super excited. The Saints are 1-1, defeating the Baltimore Ravens 24-17. What are your thoughts? What are your thoughts? I think the things we need to clean up are bigger than what we want to let on to believe, but they can be fixed. Well, first and foremost, we need to acknowledge that there are problems there. And if we don't acknowledge it, it's not going to get fixed. And so we need to acknowledge the fact that the Saints in these slow starts are eventually going to come back to haunt them. And I'm hoping and praying that we can rectify this problem very, very soon. Including me. But, oh my God, I love being wrong about this. Normally I'm not. Normally I don't want to be wrong. And when I'm proven wrong, I catch a fit. Not today. Not today.
