  Welcome, everyone, to the second annual Goody Awards here on the KB Radio Network, our award show that celebrates television and films of 2020. for I am your host Kevin Reed and boy am I excited for today's show. for a number of reasons you know number one this marks the end of another year we made it to the end of 2024 i know a lot of people are happy to have made it to the end of 2024 being as though they probably went through some tough times a little struggle here and there and we made it through or you made it through that's awesome or you're excited about the prospects of 2025 and you can't wait to get to it or you have some plans for the upcoming year that you are highly anticipating and i understand that as well but this year 2024 has been such an up and down year just like every year you know this seems like the the uh normal speech of every single year You know, we've had our ups, we had our downs, and, you know, it's the same thing. And for everybody, I don't care if you're rich, poor, white, black, it doesn't matter. We've all gone through a little something, something throughout this year. But at least we've made it this far, you know. Another day is another opportunity. to do better from the last day but that's need to hear no dare we're not here for the inspirational speech or daily affirmations that's that's that's another show today we are excited in celebrating the second annual goody awards this is the award show that celebrates all of the films well not all but the best of 2024 whether it's tv or film and maybe the worst we have a category today we have nine categories i think i'm at nine nine categories that we have for today's show and i am uh i'm excited for this show because a lot of these categories were tough i mean head scratching to the core to the point where i almost said forget it I'm not going to put myself through this torture this year, but the excitement of really narrowing it down, not only to the best, to pick just one, but it was hard to narrow it down into these categories. There was so much good quality to come out of 2024. There were also a lot of bad. That was easy. Actually, to be honest with you. uh our uh worst film of 2024 that was the hardest category not to pick but it was the hardest to kind of uh streamline it to a few you know because there were some horrible films but we'll get to that our categories uh for this year's goodie awards goes as such we have best animated film uh biggest story of the year best TV series of the year, breakout star of the year, best female performance of the year, best horror film of the year, best male performance, worst movie of 2024, and the creme de la creme best movie of the year. I can't wait to get into these categories and talk about the winner. just keep in mind this is my list you know the reason uh the goodie awards exist is because every year you know everybody comes out with their top 10 lists of best and worst and all this here and i wanted to do something different i wanted to go against the grain and so i decided to do the goodie awards and i had so much fun doing it last year you I said, well, I'm going to make it a tradition. We're going to continue to do this until somebody tells me different. So as of right now, this is the format. It is really, I like it this way because even though there's one winner per category, everybody nominated is truly worthy. You know, they are that good, whether it's the performances or the film itself, they were that good or TV show. And I really enjoy that. And I like mixing TV and film, especially when it comes to the performance wise. Because this isn't best female performance on television and best female performance in movies. No, they're all together. You know, and same thing with the male. They're all together, TV and film together. Because to me, it doesn't make sense to do it that way. I feel a good performance is a good performance, whether it's on the big screen or on the little screen. So that was fun as well. And so. we're going to get into this show because it's a big show and some of you are probably anticipating what my choices will be and it's going to be some very controversial choices i think and some that uh you might agree with and you know either way it go i'm happy with it and i respect everybody's opinion you know film is subjective it's it's very subjective i've seen some top 10 lists already for this year and i was like what you know some of them i was super confused by and you know all i could think of well that's their list that's that's the films that spoke to them you know didn't necessarily speak to me and so you know i can't get mad at it that's your opinion but here on the kb radio network this is the nominees so before we get into our categories of course just like every other award show whether it's the academy awards or the golden globes or have how have you they have an immemorial of all who were lost in the previous year this year being 2024 and we lost some gems this year i mean some gut punches took place uh over the course of these 12 months and i'm not going to go through every single a person who passed away in 2024 because we'll be here until 2025 uh the third annual goody award so it'll be it'll be the uh longest show ever but i'm gonna touch in on some of the most notable and it's no disrespect to those who i don't name uh loss is tough and i want to say this going into this uh i know there's some people who's probably listening who lost loved ones in 2024 i want to tell you that my heart my prayers all go out to you uh in your loss and i pray that you can find a healthy uh way of comfort in your loss in your life so i i really am uh uh praying for all of you who lost loved ones in 2024 and earlier you know you know it doesn't just renegade to those who lost somebody this year but let's get into our in remembrance of edition of the goody awards let's start off with tony todd tony todd passed away this year at the age of 69 the legendary quincy jones passed away at the age of 91 terry gar film actress tv actress passed away at the age of 79. Tito Jackson of the Jackson 5, he passed away this year at the age of 70. Chris Christopherson, you may know as he was a country music star, I believe, and he was also Whistler in the Blade films and many other films as well. He passed away this year at the age of 88. The great, the legendary, the iconic James Earl Jones. Yes, Darth Vader, King. uh mufasa from the lion king he passed away at the age of 93 uh for a certain generation you may know this man talk show host phil donahue he passed away this year at the age of 88 uh people of another generation bob uh newhart he passed away at the age of 94 richard simmons passed away this year at the age of 76 sharon Doherty who battled cancer for for a number of years succumbed this year at the age of 53 Donald Sutherland he passed away this year at the age of 88 years old The awesome Carl Weathers passed away this year at the age of 76. We also had a number of sports icons to pass away in 2024. OJ Simpson, he's still a sports icon, even though he's OJ. But he passed away this year at the age of 76. Ricky Henderson passed away at the age of 65. Pete Rose passed away at the age of... 83 bill Walton passed away at the age of 71 the logo Jerry West he passed away this year at the age of 86 years old and Willie Mays passed away this year at the age of 93 years of age the touch in on some more you also had a Liam Payne passed away this year Liam Payne from One Direction He died this year at the age of 31. Dr. Roof, I know y'all know who Dr. Roof is. Dr. Roof Westheimer, she passed away this year at the age of 96 years of age. Once again, our hearts, our prayers go out to the families of all those who I just named and to all of you who may have lost someone in the year of 2020. four so now we get into our nominees in all of these categories it's time to have some fun uh we got past the somber moment of the show now let's get in to the meat and potatoes of the goody awards beginning with our first category today and it is the nominees for biggest story of the year d This category is taking six stories throughout 2024 that had everybody talking. It wasn't just one group here in the United States. It wasn't just what the black folks were talking about or what the white folks were talking about or what the rich were talking about or so on and so forth. This is what everybody was talking about. in 2024 and I chose six stories that had everybody talking and these were stories that you would read comments you know on YouTube or on on one of these websites or whatever and you would get people engaged in some of this stuff that you wouldn't think were engaged in this type of thing and it was just Amazing to me that everybody pretty much had their ear to the street here. But here are our six nominees for the biggest story of the year. Coming in at number, I'm numbering them, but they're not ranked. Our first nominee is the rap beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Our second nominee is the Cat Williams interview on Club Shea Shea. Shannon Sharpe's podcast. Our third nominee is the downfall of Sean P. Diddy Combs. Nominee number four, the Caitlin Clark phenomenon and the WNBA coming to prominence this year. Nominee number five was, of course, the presidential election and the campaign leading up to the election and our. final nominee for the biggest story of the year was the hunt for luigi whatever his last name is the accused assassin of the united healthcare ceo just uh what a month ago or so and so those are your six nominees for the biggest story of 2024 and i weighed on this a lot and i you took every story and put them in their proper perspective. And I want to I want you all to know that the winner of this category, this is a serious winner. This is not a joke. This is a serious winner in my view. So the winner of the biggest story of 2024 was the Cat Williams interview on Club Shay Shay, I think in January. of 2024 it kicked off 2024 with a bang and this the reason this went the weed the reason cat williams is the winner of this category is because everything Cat Williams said in that interview came to fruition in 2024. You don't have the pity of the pity the P. Diddy story without the Cat Williams because Cat Williams mentioned it in the interview. The beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake was hinted on in that interview. all this stuff that he was saying and so many other stories that took place in 2024 all had a origin and it was the cat williams interview now they all didn't take place because of that interview but they were brought to light they were put on in the spotlight by cat williams that's why cat williams being the prophet that he is he gets the honor of being the biggest story of 2024 now the rest of those stories in their own right could have won each and every one had the right for that for that proceed prestigious honor of being the biggest story of uh 2024 of course the presidential election uh i mean what's what else can you say about that election uh the kendrick lamar just demolishing of drink in that rap battle is is the stuff of legends um and it's still going it's not even i don't even think he's gotten warmed up yet that's the sad part of it all uh the the uh united healthcare uh ceo being murdered in the street That's something that's ongoing. That was part of the reason why I didn't give it the victory here because, I mean, it's not wrapped up. So I'm not 100% confident that all the facts have been laid out. I'll just put it that way. And the Caitlin Clark of it all, the WNBA of it all, that was really in contention. I'm going to be honest with you. Because who was watching the WNBA before this season? Not too many people. Let's be honest. I wasn't. I wasn't. But I can honestly tell you that I started watching this year. And the reason I started watching, I wanted to see what all the brouhaha was about. And it really centered around Kaitlyn Clark. Whether you like her or not, the young lady know how to play basketball. She can, she can. she worked me on the court i know that much i'm not even gonna i'm not even gonna front the girl is nice and she held on you know up there and brought attention to this league that was dying this was a dying league and and she she did bring attention to it her and everybody else and and while doing that she gave respect where respect was due to the ones who came before so i actually respect caitlyn clark i don't see where all the hate come from you I don't like how the media and everybody else hype her up and never hyped anybody else up in that league because you've had some amazing players come out in that league. To be 100% honest with you, Kaitlyn Clark ain't even the best player in that league. I think it's, what's her name, I.J. Wilson, I believe that's her name. A beast, a beast. I think she can get on the NBA court and work them. you know she's that good but it's a lot of them that can get in the nba and play better than what the nba players are playing the nba is a shell of itself right now but the wmba those were some good games that i watched and i think that um they needed that joke so in any event uh these were some amazing stories that come out of 2024 but ultimately kat williams gets the award Moving over to our next category of the night and it is best tv series of 2024. This was tough. This this was a tough category. These were seven amazing shows that came out in 2024 that just I mean I have no issues with not one episode from either of these shows. They they are virtually flawless in my eyes and it was so hard to pick a winner but i did come up with one but here are the nominees for best tv series of 2024 baby reindeer fallout x-men 97 the penguin true detective night country shogun and mr and mrs smith man this was a tough category to to whittle down to i mean some really good shows. I am so happy with all of the content that we got this year. And these are just seven of what I consider the best. They were still some good shows that came out this year that that you can make an argument should be on this list. And I wouldn't fight you on. But these are the seven that I just ultimately just had to bow down to and say, man, these these here stick with me there's they're they're not going anywhere uh no time soon but ultimately it came down to re-watchability how good the episodes were uh did each and every episode work you know i'm saying did were there any filler episodes within these these seasons of this show that you was kind of like well they could have kept that episode or anything like that no It came down to first episode to the final episode, through and through, whether you binged it or had to wait week to week in some cases. How did you watch it and were you excited to watch it? Did you enjoy the time? Were you at the edge of your seat? And it came down to one. There can be only one, as Highlander would say, and the winner for the best TV series of 2024 goes to... the penguin they it is phenomenal a phenomenal show every single aspect of that show was pitch perfect everything the acting the writing the directing the the cinematography the way it tied in to the to the batman movie and it just felt like a continuation which it was but it i mean like flawlessly And you you are left wanting more. You was mad when the last episode ended. Please give me more. And I just can't. I can't. I can't rave about this show enough. Excellent job by all the showrunners, by Colin Farrell, Christina Miliani. I mean, everybody involved in that show. They did an amazing job. The best. TV show of 2024. All the rest of these nominees, no reason to hang your head. Baby Reindeer was a phenomenon. It really shocked me how good that show was. It caught me off guard. Enjoyed it. Fallout, another show. Didn't think it was going to be as good as it was, but it truly was that good. I mean, a perfect mix of comedy and terror and... horror and action and it had it all really really phenomenal show uh x-men 97 for the majority of this year because this show came out in march for a vast majority of 2024 this was the best show on television i i knew after this show wrapped up you know the season wrapped up that this will win best tv show but unfortunately you uh the penguin came along but but uh x-men 97 what a revival of this property i once again great job by everybody over there at marvel and disney plus um true detective night country really good show yeah it kind of sputtered at the end that's the reason why i didn't quite i couldn't quite get it there to be the best but it is worthy to be nominated it is So good as far as the acting and the direction and keeping you on the edge of your seat, the mystery of it all. I mean good show I like I really do like True Detective uh through and through Shogun well made now you want to talk about well made almost perfectly made beautiful to watch I mean your eyes will just I mean I just can't express how beautifully made this show is but I just couldn't give it the best it almost I almost gave it to it honest to god yeah if I was really ranking them this would probably come in second uh shogun was that good it was so good so good it's a slow burn i think that's probably was the well at least that probably was the uh deciding factor onto why it didn't quite get there but it's worth the burn it's that good of a show and mr and mrs uh smith was also another show that caught me by surprise donald glover um starring in this show I thought was really good. Once again, a perfect mix of action and comedy and romance and everything. It had it all. It had everything you can ask for out of a TV show. And it exceeded the movie. I think it was 10 times better than the Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie film. I loved it. I actually did. I loved the show. But ultimately, the winner of best TV show of 2024, The Pink. And so we move on to our next category of the evening and it is the nominees for breakout star of the year. This category is not really a winner or loser category. These are just four performers that you have to look out for in the future. These are four of the future stars. stars in Hollywood, in my humble opinion, due to what we saw this year regarding their performances. I really, like I said, there are no end to winners for this category because all four of these actors and actresses are winners in my book. The winners of breakout stars of 2024, we have Aaron Pierre. who broke out this year. He starred in Rebel Ridge, a really good Netflix film. He was also the voice of Mufasa and Mufasa. And he was announced as Jon Stewart in the Green Lantern TV show this year. So he had a huge year and I'm expecting a lot from him. i'm happy to see him really turn this corner here i remember seeing him in that movie old uh m night shamalan film and he was a big dude i mean huge he big he's still big big dude and um i like man and he was good in that movie the movie was but he was good in that movie and i was like well i haven't seen him in nothing And finally, we got to see him this year in a major way. Looking forward to the rest of his career. Looking forward to seeing him as Jon Stewart. That's going to be something special. But he was a breakout star of 2024. Also, Renzi Feliz from The Penguin. I watched him on, oh my God, why am I blanking on the show? It was a marvel. The Runaways. he was on the runaways that little marvel show i think it was on hulu or something he was pretty good and he was younger of course and he's he popped up on the penguin and man almost stole the show really he was that good on the show and and i'm encouraged to see what's next for this young man he he he can really turn some heads in hollywood depending on if he gets the right material and uh got the right team behind him. I think he can be one of those big up-and-coming young actors in Hollywood, and I'm excited to see what's next from that young man as well. Our next winner of Breakout Star of the Year is Kaylee Spangley, who was in two big films this year. She was in Civil War and in Alien Romulus. Both films, she did a phenomenal job, and boy, am I looking forward to seeing more of her. She, especially in Alien Romulus, and you're walking in the shoes of the great Sigourney Reaver, you know what I'm saying, in this franchise. And you have to hold your own, and you have to find a way to make it your own, and she did in that film, starring alongside of Kirsten Dunst in Civil War. I think she held on there. She held on and stole the movie there as well. I mean, she was phenomenal. And I really love her performance in both of these films that came out in 2024. So there's not a doubt that she is a breakout star of this year. And her co-star is the final breakout star of 2024. And that is David Johnson, who she co-starred with in... Alien Romance that dude blew me away in that movie and I had no idea who he was hadn't seen him and nothing else boy was he good in that move oh my god I'm getting chills now thinking about I mean this dude was phenomenal in this role in a little throwaway alien sequel But he killed it. He really did an awesome job. One of the best performances to come out of an alien film ever, ever in my opinion. But I digress. Those are your winners as the breakout stars of 2024. Now we get to a category, back to the categories that we only going to have one winner. And let's start with ladies first. the best female performance and we have a wide range of performances here none of these performances are alike there are no carbon copies in this category and i love it uh the nominees for best female performance of 2024 ariana grande from wicked part one cynthia arrebo from wicked part one Naomi Scott from Smile 2, Kristen Miliani from The Pingram, Deirdre O'Connell from The Pingram, Kathy O'Brien from Love Lies Bleeding, and Demi Moore from The Substance. These were, hands down, the seven best female performances of 2024. I... I am shocked by the Ariana Grande one. I just I had to start off. She was the first name I put on this list. She was the first one to come to mind in this category because I was so impressed with her performance in Wicked Part One. Not to mention I was impressed with that movie overall because I wasn't expecting nothing. But her performance was amazing. And, you know. her and Cynthia Erivo together was even more amazing. You have some horror here with Naomi Scott in Smile 2 and Demi Moore from The Substance. Naomi Scott in this final girl little role that she's in and this scream queen role that she's in, having to hold this film together by herself. basically yes she has co-stars in it but her performance was so terrifying and not because she's the villain but the way she's being terrorized throughout this film and her i guess you could say mental break throughout you know her going through this experience was the stuff of legends and I mean, she need I'm pretty sure she went to counseling after filming this movie because she really captured a broken person mentally in this film. I mean, Christina, Kristen Miliani as Sophia in the Penguin was this is acting class stuff between her, Colin Farrell and Deidre O'Connor in this show. I mean, just sit down. If you want to know how to act, if you want to get into acting, sit down and watch those performances on The Penguin. Yes, a TV show that's based on a comic book character who is considered a D-list villain in a lot of people's eyes. But that show had some of the best acting. I will say I'm not even going to pigeon-toe it to one year, you know, 2024. Years, man, years. Amazing performances by all of them. Deidre O'Connor in that little supporting role that she had. Heartbreaking, heartbreaking. Kathy O'Brien in Love Lies Bleeding, a film that. the film is all right you know there's nothing to write home and tell mama about but her performance was phenomenal phenomenal and why i can't hear her name mentioned you know or having heard her name mentioned in certain uh circles you know in hollywood or whatever or her being cast in certain roles and whatnot i have no idea why because she she proved that she can act I've seen her in things before. I've seen her on Star Wars shows. She was in Twisters. She was in a few films. But this role here is what you would consider career-defying. And speaking of career-defying, Demi Moore and The Substance. She was so good. Oh my god. This was a reminder that Demi Moore... at one time was at the top of the mountain at one time was you know the greatest female actor in hollywood i mean she she she had to remind us sometimes you had to pop out and show him and she popped out and showed him in this uh in this movie the substance i like all of these were amazing. Were just simply phenomenal. And it's hard to pick one, but one got picked nonetheless. The winner of Best Female Performance of 2024 goes to Christian Miliani as Sofia Falcone in The Penguin. There's not a performance Even though I made a case for each and every one of them, there's not a performance that took you on a complete rollercoaster ride of emotion like Sofia Falcone did on that show. And Christina Miliani brought you there. Told you to scrap in for this ride because we're about to go on a ride. And it was amazing. It was terrifying. It was funny. It was heartbreaking. It was emotional. I mean, everything, everything came out of this woman. I don't know how she did it. I honestly, God, don't know how she did this. Sophia Falcone, once again, another comic book character who not too many people know about, you know, and the comic book character completely different from Christina Milian. It's a big bulking woman but she's this tiny little like like a little cutie wootie little girl but no no her personality her her her her mannerisms were frightening enough not knowing what was behind those eyes you know not knowing what the next move she was going to make so unpredictable awesome job i i will shut her to think of Of anyone who feels that Christina Miliani did not have the best female performance of all 2024. It was phenomenal. I mean, episode five, I believe. That alone won her this award. That episode alone. It could be four. Four or five. I can't look. if you haven't seen the penguin i mean where get get from under that rock go watch that show it's on max and then you can binge it you want you're not like me i had to wait every week check it out it's phenomenal and her performance the fact that she outperformed colin farrell that should tell you everything you need to know about her performance uh the winner of best female performance of 2024 yet again is christina miliani as or Christian Miliani as Sophia Falcone in The Penguin. All right, we move it on to our next category and it is best horror movie of 2024. We had some really good horror movies come out this year. Really, really good horror movies. I mean, this is probably one of the best years of horror I've seen in a long time. Honestly, completely shocked. we had six films in this category and it could have easily been eight but i went ahead and make milk or whittled it down to six and here are your six nominees for best horror movie of 2024 Smile 2, Late Night with the Devil, Heretic, Alien Romulus, The Substance, and Long Legs. All of them, once again, are different. None of these horror films are the same. You don't have a mass killer running behind a big breasted girl down a hallway. You know, there's none of that. These are some... psychological horror films that test your mind, creepy factors, all this stuff, even some films in here that make you question your own spirituality. And ultimately, it came down to one film. What film in a horror aspect stuck with me all year? What film kept me... tossing and turning when i thought about it in its totality well it's the one that i would consider probably the least horror of them all and it is the best horror movie of 2024 the heretic it is a film that makes you question your own spirituality makes you it challenges your faith and i say that in the sense of me being a christian me being a strong believer in god i had to sit there like man this is some real deep stuff but it didn't make me falter on my faith actually it made me think about things in a stronger light in in a reference of my faith and you is really up to the interpretation and i really enjoyed that approach in this film it was such a well-made movie i had to watch it twice because the first time i watched it i'm like okay this you know it is it is what it is there's nothing really special about it but when i watched it the second time It it made me really think in his setback in and it made me I Don't know how to explain that honest to God I don't know how to explain it, but I felt better about myself and is weird Coming from a horror movie and no other film at least in this horror Category made me feel that way even though I enjoyed all of these films Just to run them back down smile to smile to is I would say the runner up, um, smile too was so good, so well made. And the fact that it exceeded the original is, is enough, you know, I mean, it was so well made. And like I said, the performance of Naomi Scott, her, her, uh, goodie nomination for her performance, uh, tells everything you need to know about this movie. It was, it was so creepy and disturbing at times everything about it worked uh beautifully made movie uh late late night with the devil late night with the devil i watched around halloween and you know i was i was curious about this movie i was resisting watching the movie because it just looked like one of those silly horror movies that i could probably catch in screaming or something like that but i ended up checking it out And I regretted waiting so long to watch it. It was so good. Something so simple. It wasn't a, you know, big budget, just demons crawling out of hell and all this other stuff. It wasn't none of that. It was so much more under the surface. And it disturbed me. It's another one that disturbed me. And it was so good. And I hope it gets more flowers than what I'm giving it today because it deserves more than what I'm not beginning to do it justice today. Alien Romulus was another film that I thought was going to be a little throwaway. A little throwaway Alien movie. Okay, they got lucky. They being Disney and 20th Century Studios, they got lucky with Prey. You know that. predator film from last year a couple of years ago and they want to try it again with the alien franchise like okay we didn't beat this to death uh it's time to let those xenomorphs die but this film made me long for more alien films this this felt like a true throwback to what we used to get back in a day back in my day youngsters uh you know with the first alien and the second aliens and coincidentally alien romulus falls right in between the two of them timelines wise and i i enjoyed it so much i've watched this movie four times since I went to the theater. It was that good. And it's virtually flawless in a lot of ways. You know, you can pick apart some things if you want to nitpick, but I'm not in the mood for it. I thought it was excellently made. The Substance is another film that I had to watch twice. You know, the first time I was like, OK, that's that's different. You know. That's an interesting choice that they made here. But I enjoyed the performances so much from Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley. I can't deny that this movie has a lot of substance to it, no pun intended. It's just so good. It is so good. And the messaging behind it, it isn't hidden. You know, it's right there in front of you. I guess that's where a lot of people kind of were thrown off by because it's no, you know, cerebral muscles being flexed here. But, hey, I appreciate it. You know, the dumb part of me, which is a vast majority of me, I I appreciate it because I didn't have to think so much. But it was so good to watch the performances. And if you're into that body horror, that David Cronenberg type stuff. this is for you is is disgusting if i mean disgusting uh and long legs long legs was another one long legs is a movie that if you watch it twice hey if you watch it three times you'll pick up on some stuff that will blow your mind and it'll make the movie just that much better and that's how it was for me every viewing I enjoy it even more. I think I've watched this three times, maybe four. But it just gets better every time I watch it. And, you know, Nicolas Cage's performance in this film, as long legs, as brief as it is, is one of his most disturbing performances. And we're talking Nick Cage. That's saying a lot. But ultimately, the movie that made me tick. the movie that just uh uh i enjoyed uh through and through each and every time from first viewing on to second and third viewing is the heretic and the performance by hugh grant and uh uh chloe yeast and sophia uh uh sophie thatcher great great it's just the three of them it's just those three actors it beautifully made and so the winner of the best horror film of 2024 the heretic that moves us to our next category of the night and it is best animated film of 2024 i have four films here that are vying for the coveted goodie and all four are great it's all four are great you know animation is uh it's just a toy box that every kid loves to play in i don't care if you big or small you love animation you know you bring your kids to it even if you don't have kids you go to it anyway because you just love animation everybody loves animation and these four films i believe were the four best animated movies of the year the nominees are the wow the wild robot if i can get it out right the wild robot is our first nominee ultraman rising transformers one and inside out two four exceptionally well done animated films but there can be only one And the winner of Best Animated Film of 2024 goes to Inside Out 2. Pixar done it again. Pixar did it again. This movie had me blubbering all over myself, sitting there thinking about the stuff that I'm dealing with now, not just as a teenager, but deal with now when anxiety sets in and all of these different emotions. It's just, how did they do this? How do Pixar do this? I just don't get it, but I'm glad that they did. This is a sequel to a film that I didn't think I was going to like in the first place, and that was the first Inside Out. And I end up loving Inside Out. That was one of my favorite Pixar movies of the past 10 years, or whatever the case may be. And when they finally announced a sequel, I'm like, well, where are they going to go with a sequel? We didn't, I mean, we've been through the emotions and all this here, and you got Rowley as a teenager this time. I'm like, okay, all right, that's interesting. And anxiety is coming into play. I'm like, oh. And so with that coming into play, and you have peer pressure, and all this stuff that these. this little girl is going through and i can see it like i watched it with my girls who who are in their 20s now so it doesn't directly affect them anymore but they're closer to the teens than i am and so they just went through this in so many words it probably still is and they felt it and i was feeling it and it it just tugged on the heartstrings uh to the point where it almost ripped it out of my chest i love this movie from beginning to end uh all the voice performances everything about it the animation was beautiful everything pixar you did it again the other three nominees here have nothing to hang their head on transformers one was a surprisingly good movie this was uh another film that i had zero expectations for because i'm i'm to the point where i'm kind of burnt out on the transformer franchise you know whether it's live action animated whatever i'm just burnt out on it because they just can't get it right for some strange reason but they got it right with this animated film this this was so good uh i thought it was gonna crash and burn well it didn't do too well at the box office but i mean crash and burn as far as the quality but this was really good quality i love the story i love the action the animation was really good i i enjoyed this i enjoyed this you If they would have did the live action film like this, we would have zero problems. Zero problems with the Transformer franchise. But unfortunately, we went the Michael Bay route. God bless him. But this film I thought was one of the best animated films of the year. Ultraman Rising. My daughter got me to watch this. I knew nothing about Ultraman. I know I knew nothing about this. And Ultraman is a big deal. I feel so dumb. because when i went and did research on ultraman after i watched this movie i'm like wait there's a plethora of ultraman content out there and i have never heard of it but this movie was so good and it came out on father's day weekend on netflix and watched it and i was like wow this is so fitting to come out on father's day weekend and it worked and i watched it with my girls nonetheless so it all it all worked out perfectly in that sense at least at my house but i thought it was a really good movie really good another one that i've watched a couple of times and enjoyed it on both viewings the wild robot why am i struggling to get that out the wild robot uh it was a surprisingly good movie uh zero expectations why would i want to sit down and watch a movie about a robot who is raising a baby goose but for some strange reason they found the way to make that one of the most interesting movies of the year i mean flat out movies not just animated movies period and it it was flawless i loved this movie loved it another one i got emotional in this movie but didn't too much care for the end um well let me rephrase that the ending was fine I just wanted more out the ending and that's why it didn't win but it still was good so good oh it's so good but it wasn't good enough to beat out inside out to your best animated movie of 2024. Our next category is of course best male performance of 2024. These are the five, there's only five, five best performances from males in the year of our Lord 2024. This, this is, this was a category, this is the category I should say that I'm pretty sure is going to be a little controversial. for a lot of people but uh at least my choice will be but once again this is my list if if if you have a better list by all means make a list uh but uh there will be one winner there can be only one our nominees for best male performance of 2024 are you ready chris hemsworth for furiosa Colin Farrell for the Pingra, David Johnson for Alien Romulus, Denzel Washington for Gladiator 2, and Hugh Grant for the Heretic. Yeah, I know a lot of people are like, Chris Hemsworth? Chris Hemsworth for Furiosa? Furiosa? it it it just didn't work if he also was not good uh is is i is average on a good day but the movie just did not get there you know in comparisons to the past mad max films but chris hemsworth performance in this movie was so good he stole the movie for one he he's basically the star of this movie and i felt it you was kind of ironic that Chris Hemsworth stole a Furiosa movie just like Charlize Theron stole a Mad Max movie. It was like tit for tat but they they stole each other movie even though they weren't in the but but you get where I'm coming but any who's I loved his performance in this movie. I loved it. It's the only reason I watched that movie. There's no other reason I would watch Furiosa except for Chris Hemsworth. I think this was his best performance. And I'm counting Thor. I'm counting the Avengers. I'm counting all those. This was his best performance. I absolutely loved Chris Hemsworth in this movie. Colin Farrell as the Pingram, as Oz Cop. I mean, what else could you say? What else could you say? The dude, the dude is just, I don't know, man. I don't know. I have no bad word to say about Colin Farrell in this role. Nothing. David Johnson from Alien Romulus is another one that you would sit back if you were trying to learn acting. acting, you know, want to get into that craft, watch his performance in Alien Romulus. You will not be disappointed. Denzel Washington in Gladiator 2, just like Chris Hemsworth, who gave a great performance in a bad movie. Denzel Washington gave a great performance in a bad movie. Gladiator 2 is one of the most disappointing movies of 2024, if not all time. But his performance is the only reason you would watch this movie i mean i say i know i said that about chris hemsworth but at least in furiosa they had some action sequences that was kind of exciting and whatnot and so you can kind of get on board with it gladiator 2 had absolutely nothing going for it except denzel washington there's nothing else to watch in that movie that is out that would that that what I would consider exciting or entertaining but Denzel Washington and I mean he chewed up every scene that he was in and I mean, he deserves all the love and credit for that performance because, my God, he was trying his best to make this movie an ounce of relevant. But ultimately, the movie didn't quite get there. But his performance, on the other hand, did. Hugh Grant. in the heretic i'm touched in it touched in on it earlier when the heretic won best horror film of the year his performance in this movie is the reason why that movie made or that movie won best horror film his performance as this uh just evil man yet guy next door and this is a guy that you know you know what i'm saying You know a guy like this. You've had conversations with a guy like this. How I know you have? Because I have. I've had conversations, these same conversations, with a guy like this. Where it was no words getting in edgewise. He was convicted in his belief. There was nothing you can say. or do to change his mind this is what it is there was nothing evil about his tone there was nothing vindictive he was not this just axe willing killer in his house and all this here there was none of that but yet and still he is one of the most disturbing villains of this year's batch of films i absolutely love hugh grant performance in this film and that's why The winner of best male performance of 2024 goes to Hugh Grant in The Heretic. I am shocked that Hugh Grant even took this role for one because this isn't your typical Hugh Grant film. A horror film? This little, just disturbing? I mean, I've seen him in villainous roles, but it was more of... jokey jokey type villains you know like uh uh dungeons and dragons he was the villain in that but it was more of a comical relief type deal and that's that's his bag but there was nothing funny about his performance it was nothing comical about his performance it was so disturbing yet so intelligent ah it's scary it was it was frightening because it's so real And Hugh Grant delivered just an amazing performance here. Best male performance of 2024, Hugh Grant for The Heretic. Well, everyone, this is probably a lot of people's favorite category that we're about to go over, even though there's nothing good about this category. But a lot of people on the edge of their seats for the nominees. for worst movie of 2024 this is the year's seven worst films and honestly there were more than this this was a tough category because i only wanted to keep seven movies but when i made the list i got up to 15 and i had to make myself stop there i'm pretty sure there was more than uh that i've seen like uh there are no tyler perry movies on here but god knows all of them deserve to be in this category mia coppa divorce in black and all that they deserve to be on here i'm gonna give them their shout out here because they deserve to be here but they are nominated uh these are your nominees before worst movie of 2024 craving the hunter Trigger warning, Madam Web, The Crow, Borderlands, Argyle, and Megalopolis. Those are your seven worst movies of 2024. Unfortunately, there's only one that I would consider the worst movie to come out this year. And this was easy. This was simple. all the nominees and stuff that's a mere formality i knew from the moment i sat down in the theater that this was the worst movie of the year i knew when i walked out the theater there is nothing else that compares to this monstrosity there's nothing that can top this now they had something that come close but it didn't quite get there but at the end of the day or the end of the year we should say the worst movie of 2024 goes to madam webb madam webb is so bad i'm about to cry i'm i'm seriously about to cry i cannot stand this movie i watched it again because uh i don't know i i love torture i guess but i wanted to show my daughter this movie i wanted her to see because i didn't want to be the only one to watch this or have watched a movie this bad and survive i wanted her to see because we would talk about bad movies just randomly and she was like oh you love watching bad movies and all that i said no you haven't seen it back because i was watching a movie i can't remember what it was but she was saying it was a bad movie i was telling it wasn't a bad movie and so on and so forth we had this back and forth and i'm like no you haven't seen a bad movie yet you I said, have you seen Madam Web? No, I have not seen Madam Web. Well, you're in luck. I got two hours to burn. I guess I brought it on myself. And so I decided to watch it again with her. And of course, she agreed. There is no excuse to why this movie was made. There is no reason this movie should exist, period. Number one. is based on a comic book character and this movie has nothing to do with that comic book character other than the uh power set that she develops and all this other stuff that's going on in the movie it's just a convoluted mess this movie's so bad the villain in this movie is dubbed over and he's dubbed over so bad I mean it's like it's it this is like bad filmmaking one-on-one there is no way that Sony sat back and said oh we're gonna make we're gonna make close to a billion dollars with this movie how did they saw see this movie and voluntarily released it in theaters and thought they were gonna make money I have no idea There's no I was about to say the action is bad, but what action there's no action in the comic book movie the acting is so Bad You know how bad this movie is the best actor in this movie who gave the best performance? Was Mike Epps and he was in it for five minutes Mike Epps Let that sink in. Think about it. This movie was horrible. But it wasn't the only horrible movie of the year. Trigger Warning. Trigger Warning is a Trigger Warning. Trigger Warning will make you throw something at your TV while you're watching it. Wait, what is this? Who made this? This is so bad. Craving the Hunter, it came close. to beating out madam webb this is a movie when i walked out the theater i was like okay it's not good but it's not as bad as people say it is but every step i took closer to my car as i walked away from the theater i got angrier and angrier and angrier and all like by the time i started up my truck this movie is so bad i mean because everything just kept coming to me like you Like, what is this? The only redeeming quality of this movie, why it didn't win Worst Movie, is because Aaron Teller Johnson knew he was in a bad movie, but he tried. He honest to God tried to make something out of nothing. But it wasn't enough. The Crow? I couldn't tell you. I forgot that movie. That's how bad it is. I know pieces. And I've watched it twice. So I don't think I'm just randomly throwing it on this list. No, I watched it. I actually watched it twice. God help me. And I can't remember nothing about that movie. Nothing about that movie makes sense. Nothing about that movie is exciting. there's no action there's no the romance this is supposed to be a romance and there's no chemistry between the two romantic league horrible borderlands borderlands is so bad it took them what five years to for them to release it And because they knew it was bad, they went to reshoots and reshoots and reshoots and they still couldn't make it work. So they just said, forget it. We're just going to throw it out there. And they threw it out there and it dropped to the ground and broke into a million pieces. Argyle was a film that I really had high hopes for earlier this year. And once again, so long, it was long for no reason. The action was silly. The story was so ridiculous. The twist was so ridiculous. It made no sense. It was just maddening. This is the only film out of all seven of these movies. This is the only movie that I really, honestly, God, I joked about the Kraven the Hunter thing, but I really was mad after I finished watching this movie. I was mad. Like, Wanting to fight mad like who made this? It was that bad and Megalopolis, you know Francis Ford Coppola It's hard to believe that the man that gave us the godfather Apocalypse now Bram Scroker's Dracula would give us something like this Is It's amazing, man. I didn't think it was possible, but hey, he did it. He pulled it off. Horrible movie. Horrible movie. But ultimately, there's one that's worse than them all, and that is Madam Web, the winner, or should I say the loser, worst movie of 2024. All right, ladies and gentlemen, we have reached our... final category of the night of the year and it's the big daddy of them all these are your nominees for best movie of 2024 best movie of the year this was a good year in film i believe yeah we just went through a category where we listed some of the worst and there's even more of them but they're more pros than cons in 2024 i can assure you And these are seven of what I would consider the best movies of 2024. Seven who can easily have a argument for being the best. And I wouldn't fight you on it. I wouldn't fight you on any of these. These, I mean, I understand for any one of these, any one of these, you can make a fair case for. And we can all. Drink and be merry. But these are the seven nominees for Best Movie of the Year. Inside Out 2, Wicked Part 1, Heretic, Smile 2, Alien Romulus, Doom Part 2, and Civil War. Those are my seven best films of 2024. We already discussed Inside Out 2. It already won a goodie this year with Best Animated Film. Beautiful movie. And it deserves to not only be nominated and win Best Animated Movie, but it also deserves to be amongst the others for Best Movie of the Year. Wicked Part 1 is one of the sweetest surprises of 2024 for me because this isn't my bag. This isn't your typical Kevin Reed movie, but watching this movie brought me so much joy. It was so emotional. I mean, the choreography was so well done. The music was well done. The performances by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were phenomenal. Just a good time in the theater. Love Wicked Part 1. The Heretic already won Best Horror Film of the Year. deserves to be here um hugh grant's performance winning best male performance of the year deserves to be in this category as well love this movie and i will defend it to a t uh i will go down in a fight in the blaze of gory in concerns uh in regards to the heretic smile too is i mean just a you Awesome horror film. Awesome horror film. Awesome performance. there's no flaws in this movie zero flaws in this movie deserves to be one of the best movies of the year that's why he's here and alien romulus re-invigorating this franchise and uh giving it life uh in a way that it became something new something it was something different in this franchise yet we got a taste of the old nostalgic alien films and uh it was just a perfect mix you know of horror of science fiction i i have zero complaints about that film doom part two doom part two um part one kind of made me mad i think i was mad at doom part one because i didn't know going in that it was a part one I thought we were getting a complete movie watching that movie but it was split up in two uh and later on when it was on max and I watched it and knowing going in knowing that is a two-parter you get a different perspective and you can enjoy it more and going into this knowing that it is the second half of a quote-unquote masterpiece I would say you uh made this a little better i enjoy doom part two uh if for anything else if not for anything else the cinematography this is the best cinema if i was doing a cinematography category the winner would be greg foster for uh doom part two this cinema you really thought at least i did and keep in mind i'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer But you can really feel or imagine that this cast, this crew, went to a distant planet and filmed this movie. It feels like a different planet. It don't feel like, oh, they shot this in Arizona somewhere. No, it feels like a different world. And man, the acting was great. The score, the direction, everything worked. uh enjoy doom part two and civil war civil war is your typical oscar bait movie i guess you can say but it really is a good movie and if you really sit down and really pay attention to the story they tell it now is it a actual quote-unquote civil war going on there is but you don't see it this movie really tells the story of the journalism and photojournalists and stuff like that which is a big thing for me because i love that you uh aspect of journalism and to showcase those uh people who go out there who are basically on the front lines to tell the story through pictures and video and stuff like that is is harrowing and haunting and scary and is tension filled for these people it's very very well made by alex garland but as always as i said multiple times throughout this episode there can be only one and so the best movie of 2024 the goody goes to alien romulus best movie of the year i i ultimate ultimately it came down to a couple of elements rewatchability which i've seen alien romulus multiple times since the theater and enjoyed them with them I enjoyed it every single time you know normally you'll watch a movie and you know you watch it a couple of times and it starts to wear down on you there's anything in life you start doing the same thing over and over you start getting bored with it I have yet to get bored with that movie There's not a part of that movie that I did not like. There's not a scene in that movie where I felt they could have kept it. Now, I will acknowledge one flaw about the movie, and that was the visual effects on the android. that is meant to resemble Ian Holm who passed away a couple years ago so he couldn't reprise the role from the original Alien but I didn't like the visual effects there and I think a lot of people have pooh-poohed on that but did it you know ruin the movie nope it did it uh it did it make me want to uh turn the tv off because of that nope I I enjoyed this movie every performance hit I mean, every performance worked. The screenplay worked. The action sequences worked. The horror elements worked. The emotional beats worked. When the relationship between Rain and the android played by David Johnson, that brother-sister relationship that they had, even though he's an android, it was earned.
