A few months ago, during the preparations of the parade, the Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, Moshe Amar, sent a letter to Pope Benedict XVI to ask him for support against this parade.
These last months, flyers have been distributed throughout Jerusalem, with the promise of a 4,500-dollar reward to any person who kills a sodomite.
In 2005, during the fourth parade of homosexuals in Jerusalem, Yishai Schlissel, an ultra-orthodox Jew had stabbed three parade participants and was given a twelve-year jail sentence. Paradoxically, the ‘Gay Pride’, the parade of homosexuals and lesbians takes place nevertheless every year in Tel Aviv without incident, in an atmosphere of carnival.
