Description

On this episode, Alexandra interviews Rita Phetmixay, the host and creator of Healing Out Lao’d (HOL), which is both a podcast and movement centered on the Lao diaspora and on trauma healing through storytelling.  Rita speaks about transgenerational trauma, its impact specifically on Lao Americans, her experience living in both North Carolina and Los Angeles, and how one podcast episode became an unexpected catalyst for mending her relationship with her mother. Much of Rita's work stems from her professional experiences as a health practitioner and the ways in which she has studied transformative justice through other movements, like Black Lives Matter. This episode truly captures the power of storytelling and sharing one's story. Plus, Alexandra and Rita have many laughs along the way, especially when Alexandra shares for the first time with Rita how serendipitous this episode truly is.
