Description

The world is set to face a food shortage and crisis due to the compounding effects of a war and a pandemic. Meanwhile, several major governments are pushing for fertilizer emissions reductions to tackle climate change. 

Critics have called the move insane claiming it will ultimately reduce farmers' yields. Lawmakers in the Netherlands are even looking at buying up the land of the farmers that can't meet emissions reduction targets set out by the European Union.  

This episode explores the pollution and emissions issues with synthetic fertilizers, and also their necessity in growing the world's food.
