Description
Today, on the podcast, I’m hosting Rejane Dal Bello, a Brazilian graphic designer and art director based in London. After working at several internationally renowned studios such as Dumbar or Wolff Olins, she founded her own, in 2014.
I’m very admirative of her work and career so I was particularly happy to have the chance to talk with her, and I must say, I was touched by her generosity, her sincerity and the way she speaks about her craft, with so much passion and clarity.
And it’s quite reassuring to hear such an experienced designer say that doubt is still part of her daily life, that you have to search, try, and start over. Rejane also explains why she chose to keep her studio on a human scale, so she can continue creating herself, despite the financial challenges that this choice involves.
We discuss her role as a teacher, what she learned from Milton Glaser, and the necessity of cultivating one’s own perspective in a world where images are constantly flooding in.
Finally, through her book Citizen First, Designer Second, she shares her idea of a designer’s responsibility with great humanity and without trying to lecture. That’s what I also take away from this conversation: behind her very distinctive graphic work is a woman who continues to question her practice, her choices, and the role she can play in society. I hope you enjoy the conversation.
