Mine is not balanced on something very secure, so we're just going to roll with it.
- Speaker #1
Lean with it, rock with it.
- Speaker #0
Living life on the edge.
- Speaker #1
Hello and welcome back to House of Gossip. You're here with myself, Sophie Lyons, and the stunning bride-to-be, Clara Kavna.
- Speaker #0
Clara and
- Speaker #1
I hit you with your weekly dose of pop culture nourishment. We're aiming to give you hot topics. stuff you don't know about, stuff you want to hear about, and then some random news items that we pick up along the way. Clara, how are you this morning?
- Speaker #0
Very well, Sophie. Thank you very much.
- Speaker #1
How is the pre-bride feeling?
- Speaker #0
One week to go. I feel very tired, but no, very excited.
- Speaker #1
Sorry, when this comes out, you'll be getting married in like a few days. Hang on.
- Speaker #0
Carry the wood. Yes, this comes out on Tuesday and we'll be getting married on Friday, yeah? Same day. This actually comes out on the same day as the American election. Gosh, political.
- Speaker #1
Well, this is way better. Yeah. Who thought, like who, you know, when you're like thinking about like big life moments, we're all very excited here at House of Gossip. Oh my God,
- Speaker #0
it's going to be a pulsating pace on Friday.
- Speaker #1
Oh my God, the pulsating pace is going to kick off. My sister and I are really excited because she didn't know if she could get the Friday morning off work. So she was going to have to be teetering around. Oh. And she was like, oh, I just got it. And then we were, because, you know, the way when you get to a certain age, you never get like undivided attention with your sister. Where it's just you two and it's a cat and a tat. And it's like, so we're doing like the road trip. We're staying together. We're doing the full ceremony dinner. The day two, we're doing the flights there and back.
- Speaker #0
Holding hands the whole way.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, so we're very excited for that as well.
- Speaker #0
A little sister trip, a trip within a...
- Speaker #1
A trip within a trip.
- Speaker #0
Oh, I'm so happy to hear that. Yeah. A listener, Karen, who's coming to the wedding was like, oh, I'm really going to enjoy this wedding at a pulsating pace. I was like, yes, go on. Yes,
- Speaker #1
Karen, get in there. Clara, obviously, is up to her eyes with admin bits. And this is going to be the last episode before your nuptials. Then we'll be taking a couple of weeks break for a bit of respite post-nuptials. And then we'll be back. Clara, let's kick it off. We've tons to talk about. What's your J'Adore to test this week?
- Speaker #0
So my J'Adore is a book I'm reading. It's called The Beasting.
- Speaker #1
Oh,
- Speaker #0
yeah. By Irish author Paul Murray. On the front, they describe it as a slab of a book. It's 650 pages. OK. It's like basically two books. That's a lot. It's free on Spotify if you want to listen to it. OK. Yeah, it was shortlisted for the Booker Prize last year. It's about this like family in a small, unknown Irish town and... I must say it's got pulsating pace. Oh! For a book that long, I'd say 250 pages in. So like I'm only basically cracking the surface on it. But each chapter, it goes to another family member and all the grammar changes, all the style changes of how you read it. It's a triumph. It's so good.
- Speaker #1
Is it like a thriller or what's the...
- Speaker #0
It's more just like family dynamics and it's something in the everyday. Oh, OK. It's a family of four, a girl and a boy in a recession. So it's like all those politics of like the Celtic Tiger crash.
- Speaker #1
Oh, so it's modern like?
- Speaker #0
Yes. So I'd say maybe, yeah, like say the crash of 08, you know. Classic. It's in the Leaving Search, but it's just a real, even though there's the monotony of like she's doing her Leaving Search, but it's like her like starting drinking and, you know, hanging out with... boys, friendship, politics and then it goes into the brother and he's that little bit younger and it's all the stuff that he faces like bullying and the family's going through financial turmoil and how that impacts the whole family. Then I'm on the mom's chapter. Oh,
- Speaker #1
I'd say she has some bits, does she?
- Speaker #0
Imelda is pissed off and you hear her whole backstory. It's amazing.
- Speaker #1
Do we know why it's called The Beasting?
- Speaker #0
Yes.
- Speaker #1
Oh, don't tell me that.
- Speaker #0
It's a real page turner. I keep begging our book club to do it but then they keep slagging me being like shit. it's so long. Like, it's like, you just don't want us to meet again because it takes so long to read. I was like, no, that's not what I mean.
- Speaker #1
Oh, I want to read. Okay.
- Speaker #0
If you're in the mood for a little winter read, it's described on the front by The Independent, a tour de force. And I couldn't agree more. It's brilliant. So what are you, J'adore, you're testing?
- Speaker #1
Love that. I am J'adore-ing Jane, who I live with and spend a lot of time with. Every year, Jane hunkers down and gets into what we like to call goulash season. Jane has started making her seasonal goulash again which for unbeknownst to anyone listening is a soup, a chunky soup and Jane has kicked off goulash season again. Jane makes huge vats of it.
- Speaker #0
It wouldn't be winter without these goulashes.
- Speaker #1
I know I came home the night and I had a really long day and Jane was like I've got goulash. I came back, there was a huge, a huge pot of goulash with the ladle in, like it's very home cooking. And it was a vegetable soup. Jane has like six containers filled with the goulash and then she'll make a new cycle. And it's really comforting. And it's really Jane. Goulash season is here. Is here to stay. And that's why J'Adore had some for dinner last night. Just heated it up in a mug. No bowl needed.
- Speaker #0
So nutritious.
- Speaker #1
It's full of bits. Jane wasn't feeling so well during the week, so she had a lot of time to kill. And goulash was her product.
- Speaker #0
I'd say out of the last three times I've been to your apartment, goulash has been there two times.
- Speaker #1
There's always goulash on the stove.
- Speaker #0
On the go.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, like steams coming out of the kitchen window. You know, the ventilator outside the apartment, that's going 90. And Jane was exhausted after making it because she really puts in elbow grease.
- Speaker #0
Chopping all the veg.
- Speaker #1
Here's to Jane.
- Speaker #0
Here's to Jane. Who doesn't listen? Oh, now, Sophie, it's time to go to the studio.
- Speaker #1
Thank you, Clara. I saw this yesterday and I'm so excited to actually watch this thing. It's from 2002. So what would I have been? 10-ish. And it was about the World Cup. bust up in Saipan between Mick McCarthy and Roy Keane.
- Speaker #0
Mick McCarthy?
- Speaker #1
Mick McCarthy and Roy Keane. And I've heard about it in my subconscious because obviously it was such a big deal at the time, but I never really knew what it was. Anyway, they're making a film about it and Steve Coogan is playing Mick McCarthy. I know, I'll let that set in.
- Speaker #0
Over the drama? What drama happened?
- Speaker #1
Well, Clara, I'll tell you. Go on. It was massive, I remember at the time. Basically, it was a drama about a man Roy Keane ended up leaving the Ireland camp before the start of the World Cup tournament in Japan and South Korea after a public falling out with Mick McCarthy.
- Speaker #0
Roy Keane is such a diva.
- Speaker #1
I love him.
- Speaker #0
He's a real madam.
- Speaker #1
I love him. He doesn't care. The pair were involved in a verbal altercation after Keane had given an interview to a newspaper bemoaning the preparation facilities laid out by the Football Association of Ireland, like apparently what they arrived over to for the training part. of the World Cup camp just wasn't up to the madam's standards. And then apparently he had a rant at Mick McCarthy in front of his teammates and he said, stick your World Cup up your ass before flying back to Ireland. McCarthy later disputed this and claimed he was sent home.
- Speaker #0
Ooh, Battle of the Divas.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, apparently he was furious by the training conditions, strategy, travel arrangements, diet and McCarthy's competence. And they're making a movie about it. And the stills were just released. this week.
- Speaker #0
Oh my gosh.
- Speaker #1
I think every Irish person above a certain age will be like, oh, weren't everyone's parents talking about that, I feel like? Yeah. Because I remember the World Cup that year.
- Speaker #0
Oh, wow. Okay, that's going to be good. I really like the way Steve Coogan really holds true to his Irish roots and I really appreciate that.
- Speaker #1
Who is Steve Coogan? He's like Alan Patrick. I know who he is, but do we like him?
- Speaker #0
Oh God,
- Speaker #1
yeah. Anyway. The stills are coming out. I'm not sure when the release date is, but I think it's going to be really good.
- Speaker #0
A theatrical release in 2025. There you go. Wow. Thank you, Sophie. Sports update over and out.
- Speaker #1
Back to you in the studio,
- Speaker #0
Clara. Okay, so I think we have to talk about what's on everybody's lips at the moment.
- Speaker #1
Oh my God, totally.
- Speaker #0
All the WhatsApp groups I'm in, they're firing.
- Speaker #1
Instagram, everywhere.
- Speaker #0
Everyone's talking about it. Maura Higgins in her first interview ever, basically.
- Speaker #1
It's basically her first interview because I remember trying to Google something about her and there was just nothing on her.
- Speaker #0
Nothing. She says nothing. And she says it in the interview, like how she just doesn't talk to anyone because like the more you talk about it, the more you feel it. So she was on Paul C. Brunson's podcast, We Need to Talk.
- Speaker #1
Now he's a bit of a drip.
- Speaker #0
So bit of backstory on Palsy Brunson, okay? He was discovered by Oprah. He was like this kind of matchmaker. Her team found him. He had this like really small YouTube series. Like I'm talking like 30 views, but his advice was really good. And then she discovered him, gave him a bit of platform. Then he kind of found success on celebs go dating and married at first sight UK. So he's kind of one of those American celebs that have found more fame and fortune in. The UK. So he is kind of like a love guru, matchmaker slash therapist. I heard him on another podcast, told a hilarious story of himself and his wife. Oh, his wife? Yeah, they have two kids. They live in...
- Speaker #1
Did not see that coming.
- Speaker #0
They live in Wandsworth.
- Speaker #1
Thought he was batting for the other team.
- Speaker #0
No, somebody else described him as he sounded like an AI bot. I was like, oh, poor Paul.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, because she'd be like, you know, I don't want that. And then he'd be like, uh-huh. Totally. Like the contrast of the two is a lot.
- Speaker #0
Yeah, he told a story of him and his wife were invited to Oprah's like, I don't know, gala. And she came in to say hello to them before they entered the room. And his wife and Oprah were wearing the same dress and it was both sequins dress. And they hugged and whatever way they hugged and their bodies pressed against each other, but the sequins stuck. So then his wife, who was so nervous, like as we all would be to meet like Queen Oprah, and then they got stuck together for like way too long. And she was like,
- Speaker #1
I've had that happen to me. It is quite awkward.
- Speaker #0
Like of all the people to get stuck to, like Oprah's definitely the best. And she said Oprah was really nice, but it's like, his wife was like, my back is so sweaty. Like, please don't touch me, Oprah. I'm so embarrassed.
- Speaker #1
Oh my God, I'm touching Oprah.
- Speaker #0
Yeah, I'm stuck to Oprah. And like all their team were like frantically trying to untangle them. But yeah, so this podcast is out via Flight Studios, which is the same podcast production company that Dario Vizio, Stephen Bartlett, he owns that.
- Speaker #1
It had a similar vibe.
- Speaker #0
So he's...
- Speaker #1
Visually and stuff, didn't it?
- Speaker #0
So Davina McCall is part of the roster with another podcast, Begin Again, and then this, We Need to Talk. He's done a few episodes. He's done like Lauren Goodger and stuff, but like this is definitely... They should have started with this one, if I'm honest. That would have really hooked me in.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, because I've never seen it.
- Speaker #0
It's a two hour interview. Now it took me like all day yesterday to listen to it. Oh my God. But it's great. She is balls to the wall, tells it everything. It was like a therapy session.
- Speaker #1
That woman is an icon.
- Speaker #0
I missed her. I absolutely, when she was talking, I was like, I actually, because she doesn't talk.
- Speaker #1
But she's so funny.
- Speaker #0
She's hilarious.
- Speaker #1
And her way of thinking is so admirable.
- Speaker #0
Mm.
- Speaker #1
Oh, her whole attitude was so good. So refreshing. So normal. Refreshing. It was like a cucumber mask. She was so refreshing. And she's only 33, like. Like, she took a lot for 33. But she goes through all, like, her upbringing and, like, the school thing.
- Speaker #0
So she had this awful teacher.
- Speaker #1
That school sounds like prison. Prison? There was, was it four people in her class?
- Speaker #0
Yes, I think it was, like, one of those country schools where one teacher might teach a few classes. So she was getting taught the same thing as, like, a sixth class when she was in third class.
- Speaker #1
And they had to shout.
- Speaker #0
Yeah, it's a horrible story anyway of the awful teacher she had. So basically the ethos behind the podcast is he chats to someone and then there's these like interludes of him giving kind of a take home therapy. So like Maura did a lot of like negative self-talk. So then he would kind of jump away and go like how you talk to yourself has a big impact on what is happening internally in your head has a massive impact on what happens externally. Like you calling yourself. she keeps calling herself a psycho and, you know, I'm terrible and this, I'm terrible that. And I was like, well, that has a big impact. And then she took a lot away from that. So I think with that one, it was like she's had such toxic men in her life, the teacher and then her dad. Her dad seems to, she doesn't talk to her dad anymore. He seems to be an absolutely awful person who was really not supportive, especially through the death of her best friend, her best male friend.
- Speaker #1
Did she say what happened?
- Speaker #0
A motorbike accident.
- Speaker #1
No, no, with the phone call with her dad or something. She didn't go into detail, did she? No. I was wondering. I couldn't quite grasp what had happened. Yeah, he doesn't sound very nice. And the mum had like an emotional breakdown, a nervous breakdown.
- Speaker #0
Yeah, and then he was like, oh, you're going to be fine. All she kind of went into was like, you'll manage, it'll be okay. And it was like, he just didn't seem like he could really go there and like support her.
- Speaker #1
No.
- Speaker #0
It must have been so tough. That's awful.
- Speaker #1
The bit in the school where she's like, you couldn't write with your... page crooked.
- Speaker #0
Yeah. And you had to shout your homework at the wall and if you got it wrong you got lines.
- Speaker #1
And no break time.
- Speaker #0
And you weren't allowed to talk to your friends.
- Speaker #1
Because like our school was strict but like that's verging on like shouldn't have been open.
- Speaker #0
Yeah. This was a little bit like yeah like a prison.
- Speaker #1
And then they were always calling the mum in. Yeah. The whole thing was so odd. But then I loved when she was like I didn't realise like she was like oh then I was like a hairdresser in like Athlone I think. Yeah. And then she got contacted on Instagram to become a monster girl. And she was like, oh, no way am I doing that. Like, they won't pick me. And her friend is like, just do it. You won't know. And then she said then at one point she was taking nine flights a week to, like, work in the States with Monster. She is such, like, balls of steel. Yeah. She was going out with a guy and he cheated on her, didn't he?
- Speaker #0
I think he was. Was he American?
- Speaker #1
She said it was in the States.
- Speaker #0
Yeah, I think he was American. And he she. went through his phone and she was like I knew I shouldn't have but like I just had a good feeling no to Bene ladies she filmed the messages on his phone icon classic so she she was like saw all the messages and she was like it wasn't just one person it was loads and loads and loads filmed it all and then she broke up with him wasn't it and she wanted to go straight onto Love Island no didn't she keep it to herself oh yeah yes she just acted normal played dumb this is and she was like I'm a psycho I'm a psycho it was like no you're not you are writing a book on how to be dealt with so she's all playing all nicely he wants to go into Love Island without telling her and then fair play to the producers of ITV of Love Island were like no no no because you then once you go in there you can't come out and you don't know what he's going to say about you so that was good advice I suppose and then didn't he fly to Ireland and then she went with a friend to go meet him and then they broke up that way oh and then they broke up
- Speaker #1
Yeah, I just remember the other part.
- Speaker #0
And he was like, what are you talking about? I didn't cheat on you. I'd like go through my phone and nothing was there. And then she was like, here's a video, pal. Oh,
- Speaker #1
my God. And she was so great. And then she said she was going to go on Love Island. She was supposed to be on the original launch. And then she was like, I think they realized I was nuts. So they put me on as a bombshell.
- Speaker #0
I went in hammered. Yeah.
- Speaker #1
She ended up with Curtis, but she was like, absolutely. Curtis. Curtis, she said. obviously when you're in there after a while like you're gonna end up thinking you fancy someone and that was him for me basically like she doesn't say his name but she was like it wasn't a relationship like I didn't fancy him and then she was just like we broke up over the phone like it wasn't anything but I know there was a love island like all stars USA maybe the summer before last and she had to interview him She was doing a Laura Whitmore or whatever job, my pajama job. Stop. And he came out, he got voted out and she had to interview him. And there is the funniest clip I remember from, I think it was two summers ago. And it's the, you know, when they're prepping for the interview. So like everyone on the set is getting ready. Yeah. And he's like, how's your family? She's like, they're good. Yeah. Thanks. It's so awkward. And then there's a bit where she like jabs at him at one point. It's really good. I'll try and find it.
- Speaker #0
Because she's one of those people, you know, what's going on in her head by her face. Like, you know, you can read her very quickly.
- Speaker #1
It's so funny. And then she goes into like all the stuff like after Love Island. She said she like was overworking and she was like even going into a supermarket. Like I didn't know any of the brands. She was like, it was like alien to her. And she said that was really difficult.
- Speaker #0
And not having a break as well, like going straight into all that work and then like moving country.
- Speaker #1
Being so famous.
- Speaker #0
She went from like 40,000 followers to 2 million. Like that does like, that has a lot to do for your like mental health and your psyche.
- Speaker #1
Definitely.
- Speaker #0
And she like was so honest about like those dark thoughts she had. It seemed like she had a, maybe it was like an exhaustion breakdown and her friend really stepped in. So it sounds like she's lovely people around her. Apart from men.
- Speaker #1
It's weird that you just never think that. would happen to her. Yeah. Which is such a ridiculous thing to say, but she's just so, like the way she even spoke about it was so practical. Yeah. And then she said, she was talking about, you know, your man, Chris. Taylor. Taylor, she was talking about him and she was basically like, we were friends for ages and then we were drunk at a party and he told me he loved me or something and she said, she was like, no, no, like I don't want to go there. And like, sounds like she just. Not that she kind of had to go into it, but she obviously entered into it being like, this is really weird. And she just said it was just strange.
- Speaker #0
But like he was basically like, I'm not going to be your friend because I've told you I love you. Yeah.
- Speaker #1
He was like, we can't be friends. But then she said they've broken up and they're in the same gym now and he won't even look at her.
- Speaker #0
Yeah. Which is so mad because he he was on Celebs Go Dating and on the latest season. And Paul Brunson was the one of the therapists on it. And he talks about Maura in it. And he's like. Oh, like she really hurt me and like I loved her. Maura then on the podcast was like, I don't think he loved me at all. And like, I didn't love him. It was just a bit of a, people like the idea of me. It's a bit like, what's that old Hollywood actress say? Like, they go to bed with my character and they wake up with me. I got definitely got that, like people. She said that though,
- Speaker #1
didn't she?
- Speaker #0
But it is that thing of like, you know, people like the idea of me, but then they don't.
- Speaker #1
When it comes down to it.
- Speaker #0
When they get me. Yeah, it's like it's more the chase of like, I need to get with Maura.
- Speaker #1
But that was really interesting what she said.
- Speaker #0
Chris doesn't seem that developed for her. Like he seems very unemotionally intelligent.
- Speaker #1
She was like, guys love the chase. And then when they get me, it's not what they thought. Was that what she said? It was so good. And his advice wasn't great. I didn't understand his advice.
- Speaker #0
No, because he was like, are you being yourself? And she was like, yeah. He was like,
- Speaker #1
be more forthcoming when up front. I think she is forthcoming, mate.
- Speaker #0
She was like, I give it months. Like, I give it so much time. Oh,
- Speaker #1
yeah. Because he was like, maybe you're giving yourself away too easily. I thought that was completely made no sense. No,
- Speaker #0
he didn't. No, that wasn't good advice.
- Speaker #1
I would have liked actual therapist advice for that. Because that was really interesting.
- Speaker #0
I don't think he really got to the crux of it. Because what I think with Moira is like, I think there's this thing of like, she's garnered loads of respect from... women I think because she's such a like in Love Island especially like she's a real straight shooter and she's a real like she's a girl's girl she's a girl's girl but like has so she said on the podcast she's like so many more male friends but I think she's able to talk to men in a way that other women kind of might dance around it she's like you remember in um Love Island there's that meme it's like why did you ask her that go back over there and sort it out like she's a real like sister to men but like from a girl's girl's point of view oh yeah Anna can I talk to you for Yeah. And I think what's endearing about her is like, even though she has all this great advice and she's always on ITV giving like, giving advice.
- Speaker #1
It's very funny. She's like, why am I giving love advice?
- Speaker #0
Yeah. And like, but it's interesting because it's like she's able to give all this great advice, but then has just been like quite unlucky in love and like men use her men.
- Speaker #1
Join the fucking club. I know several girls who I can think of right now who are so good at giving advice. Like.
- Speaker #0
give me unbelievable advice and they can't do it themselves it's interesting because like she knows her worth and she knows what she deserves and she knows how she wants to be treated she knows what she wants out of life but then she and I think she said she was like I don't want to end up like if I don't get married I don't get married that's fine she's like do I want it yeah yeah do I need it no so it's like no I don't know there's kind of a she's so great yeah there's kind of like a discrepancy in between like what she's saying what's actually happening so you just wonder you
- Speaker #1
Oh, do you not think she's just been very unlucky?
- Speaker #0
Yeah, but then it's like, is she choosing the wrong people? Like, is she as good as reading people as she is for herself, as she is as good as reading for, say, friends or other people? I don't know, because she's with Pete Wicks now. And, you know, he's like basically the English Pete Davidson.
- Speaker #1
I think he's so great.
- Speaker #0
I'd say he's so small. They used to slag my Towie for being really tiny. Like little mini Pete. So they've been linked together since... What,
- Speaker #1
they're like, you've a tiny Willie?
- Speaker #0
No, no, no, just like a very neat man-een type man.
- Speaker #1
I do not imagine he has a small
- Speaker #0
Willie. No, I'm not talking about his Willie. I'm talking about his stature. Oh.
- Speaker #1
I was like, they all say that in Made in Chelsea. It's like, I think he has a big Willie. You mean physically stature small.
- Speaker #0
Understood. No, I've heard he's very well endowed on the show, but on Towie they would have been like, oh, little Pete. Pirate Pete.
- Speaker #1
Small king.
- Speaker #0
Small king. He's a real small king. With the most dreamy eyes. Oh. But apparently they met after Love Island. She said they bonded over their dark sense of humour, but then they've been really linked together since August.
- Speaker #1
Because it only got revealed like last week,
- Speaker #0
didn't it? Yes, having Siggy's in Shoreditch on a real night out and passionately smooching.
- Speaker #1
I could see them being so fabulous together.
- Speaker #0
I know. They're real kind of like well-matched.
- Speaker #1
Yeah.
- Speaker #0
In terms of like fame levels. Sass. But I don't know. Like he's such a like as much what annoys me is like she gets called a man eater but like he doesn't and he's dated like everyone in Oh well classic. Every B-lister going. C-lister probably.
- Speaker #1
Sorry. Just my favourite bit of the whole thing him asking like what the public's perception of it is and she was like oh I think it's that she can't you know I can't keep a man. She's like I don't want to keep a man that cheats on me. I don't want to keep a man that isn't going to. I think that attitude is so ballsy.
- Speaker #0
Yeah. And it must be really hard to find people with genuine intentions as well. Like when you're in those circles of like, it must be so hard as a famous person to get a real relationship going when like people just like the idea of you. They like the fame. They're like, you know, like especially with Curtis and Chris, those two love island relationships, they seem to be really like, everybody wants this. Let's do it for the fame. the attention, the brand deals, you know, it didn't seem as genuine.
- Speaker #1
Do you ever watch Curtis's best bits on
- Speaker #0
Love Island? He makes my skin crawl.
- Speaker #1
It's very funny.
- Speaker #0
Him and his brother with that stupid hair and this plastic smile.
- Speaker #1
There's a really funny clip in your one.
- Speaker #0
He is a Ken doll.
- Speaker #1
What's her name? Is it Amanda? The blonde one that was with him before Moira?
- Speaker #0
Amy. Amy.
- Speaker #1
Amy. She's like, if I wake up and I want to have a cuddle. person I'm with is supposed to want to cuddle back. Like, what's that about? And he was like, I'm also the person who wants to get up and make everyone a coffee in the morning so they're ready for the day.
- Speaker #0
It's like, you are a robot.
- Speaker #1
If someone said that to me, I'd be like, what are we doing here? He's like, I'm also the person who wants to make everyone a coffee in the morning.
- Speaker #0
I would burst out crying because I'd be like, you just want people to like you and you care more about the group.
- Speaker #1
He clearly doesn't want to cuddle.
- Speaker #0
He clearly doesn't want to cuddle. I would have just been like,
- Speaker #1
okay also coming from someone who like cuddling or sorry maybe it's more holding hands holding hands for me is like my kryptonite like as in if someone's holding my hand and was like don't do anything else ever I'd probably not move like I love holding hands 100% of the time it's the best thing ever if someone was like I want I need to go do this about making other people coffee you Nah. I need to find that clip. It's very funny.
- Speaker #0
Oh, I know that clip like the back of my hand. It was just like, what a ick.
- Speaker #1
Oh my God. So gross. And like grow a pair.
- Speaker #0
Also like grow a pair. You're not the like the Villa Butler. Like people will make their own coffees. You're not here. This isn't Butler Island. It's Love Island.
- Speaker #1
Like let's call a space baby. He clearly didn't want to cuddle.
- Speaker #0
Yeah. Any excuse to get out of bed.
- Speaker #1
Well, yeah. You know the bit where he makes the girls go and change their outfits.
- Speaker #0
Ugh.
- Speaker #1
He's like, everyone, let's get up and change our outfits for our men.
- Speaker #0
Ew. Everybody's constantly like cha-cha-ing around the kitchen. it's just so I think those two brothers Curtis and AJ are like they're bots they're bots or like they're not real people they were sent down from another planet I get the robotic energy you're giving out all they want to do is like dance around kitchen make people like me make coffee make coffee drip drip milk honestly they give me the heebie jeebies how they're like the darlings of Strictly is beyond me
- Speaker #1
are they still
- Speaker #0
I think AJ was I don't even know I don't even care they make me want to vomit they're quite frightening it is it's like this plastic smile yeah hi do you think they slept together I don't I think he has it I think when he takes off his underpants it's like a chan dog I don't think it's physically possible I'd love to know that
- Speaker #1
Anyway, if you haven't listened to the podcast, I'd highly recommend it. I'd recommend it not like actually concentrate because the stuff she's saying is so brilliant. Her attitude's amazing.
- Speaker #0
It's very dense. Yeah,
- Speaker #1
it's really dense. I'm glad it was that long. Yeah. Anything else would have been a tease.
- Speaker #0
And, you know, sometimes like say like those Joe Rogan ones that go on for three hours. Like it's very like American style having it two hours long. Yeah. But it actually like, OK, took me all day yesterday to listen to it. Like when you listen to it like little chunks. But it didn't like wane. it was very well researched and it actually had loads of like there was a good pulsating there wasn't a pulsating pace but there was a pace to it that it wasn't like they didn't linger on certain things there was just actually so much to talk about they go into like sexual assault death therapy it's real full frontal Maura Higgins it's great
- Speaker #1
I'd highly recommend I need to put up some things of Curtis now that's very funny
- Speaker #0
Art Farts

In other news, a little tidbit for you. I can't leave an episode or two without mentioning the Beckhams. Victoria Beckham has trademarked a new brand, HB7 Limited. HB7 stands for Harper Beckham 7. Or is it H7B? Either way. So she's done a new limited company with Victoria and a solicitor as directors. And they think this whole plot of the... Beckham's getting this new mega mansion in Miami is potentially with the foresight of launching Harper into the spotlight. She doesn't have an Instagram. She's been quite private. But you'll see she's kind of coming up in more like beauty tutorials on Victoria's Instagram and stuff. And apparently that's what the vision is.
- Speaker #0
How old is she?
- Speaker #1
Twelve. I think she's 12 or 13. Now, there was a picture of her in, you know, those Jean Paul Gaultier dresses where it's like a sculpture's body on a dress.
- Speaker #0
Right. Yes. Quintessentially.
- Speaker #1
She was wearing one of those recently and I was like, she's 12, even though she looked amazing. I don't know. They've been so private with her. It would be weird for it to go completely the other way.
- Speaker #0
Yeah. Hard launcher at 12. I just think like it's the same with Northwest. Like,
- Speaker #1
oh, well,
- Speaker #0
last we discuss.
- Speaker #1
Gazzar, Clara and I had a few drinks last night. I was showing the table northwest at Halloween. I don't know who she was dressed up as. She was in this like turquoise kilt and blazer with a blonde mop wig and she was like shimmying around. I was showing the whole table and I mean, we thought it was funny, but it was bizarre.
- Speaker #0
Tyler, the creator. Very, very niche. okay is northwest like a similar age so it's just a little bit like yeah it's like 10 or 11 giving kids these spotlights too early on when you're like not even pubescent you are pre-pubescent and giving them like these big public platforms global public platforms what is that going to do to the noggins have we learned nothing from disney channel kids nothing from liam payne and the x factor like it's kind of opening up criticism yeah yeah to people it's such a tender and gentle age especially when they have cameras in their face All the time anyway. And I appreciate the Beckhams do seem to be quite protective. But like, I don't know. I find the whole thing a bit scary. Like we're not learning anything from the people who've gone before.
- Speaker #1
I also think with the ones like the Northwest ones, all her friends are in the back. And she's dressed up as a Disney princess for Halloween. And they're all different Disney princesses. They look amazing. But like if I was a parent of one of those kids, I wouldn't want my child in the background of a TikTok that millions of people are seeing.
- Speaker #0
You know the way school politics, especially at that age, because you're just learning. God, it's awful. You know, all the dynamics. Like, I remember when we were in first year, we had like huge, like class blowout. You know, imagine that, except all the parents of the school are really rich and like loads of them are famous. So you've got like the inner class politics where everyone's kind of figuring out their body, their hormones are all changing.
- Speaker #1
And you don't really know who you are at all.
- Speaker #0
You don't know who you are. And then you've got people who are like famous with all these cameras. It's school politics on... a whole other like higher level
- Speaker #1
I would argue a normal school isn't the place for a child like that No. Because she's doing like music and magazine interviews and TikToks and all this kind of stuff. Like she's doing it all the time now. And like she's definitely going to come out with her own brand and stuff within the next year or two. Like that shouldn't be in a standard school. Purely for like the fact of the other kids as well. Like I'd be like, this is so bizarre. I'd like, you know, the way you want to protect, like as in these kids are getting Instagram when they're like eight. Yeah. Or something terrifying like. And then add the fact that you've a famous child who's actually doing stuff in the public eye as opposed to just their parent being famous.
- Speaker #0
Yeah, I just think it's too young.
- Speaker #1
It's mad.
- Speaker #0
Like your brain doesn't develop till you're 25 and these kids are 12. How is this forming their brains now? And I don't mean to, I'm not like trying to mom shame anyone, but you are putting your kid through a lot. You're using her as like another string to your brand bow. Like the way they include North in the Kardashians show is like, yeah. Ooh, she's a bit zany and, like, it's good telly and her reviewing the match. I'd say,
- Speaker #1
though, they can't keep her from participating.
- Speaker #0
Yeah, but, like, you're also, like, you don't have to. Look at Courtney. She kept the kids on and off the show when she wanted.
- Speaker #1
No, but I'd say North is so, like, doesn't take no. Yeah. That's what my impression is, anyway. I feel like if Harper Beckham has anything, it'd still be very contained. Like, it might be a branch, like an edit of her mum's. brand or something I don't know because the boys aren't actually that public even though people know who they are like you know Brooklyn obviously and his many endeavors his new hot sauce venture so I would say it would be like that to be fair
- Speaker #0
I think they've actually done quite a good job oh yeah but like we've spoken on the show before like say Beyonce taking Blue Ivy on tour and in the movie they go into all the trolling Blue Ivy got for the dancing It's like that kid's 12. Yeah, that was bizarre as well. You're exposing your kid to the good and the bad. Like they both come hand in hand. And it's just like, yes, I suppose the Beckhams probably might control Harper's exposure a bit more or it might be a bit more contained than North's is because North seems to just have every social platform going. But I don't know. I just think they're too tender. It's too...
- Speaker #1
Oh my God, there's nothing to aspire to if you have all that now.
- Speaker #0
Yeah. Like she is a bit of a visionary like her dad, but I just think I just think it's a lot. It's a lot to put it. Nobody knows how to deal with fame. And like, do you think a fucking 12 year old knows? No,
- Speaker #1
no way.
- Speaker #0
They don't really understand it. You know, it's like a lot.
- Speaker #1
No way.
- Speaker #0
Speaking of the Beckhams in some kind of just just to end the show on a bit of a downer story. There's there's rumors of the Spice Girls reunion going on for the last while all summer. Their 30th anniversary is coming up. You know, there's the Glastonbury headline slot that everybody thought that they'd be doing next year. Apparently all on hold. No reunion.
- Speaker #1
Why?
- Speaker #0
The feud between Gerry and Mel B runs too deep.
- Speaker #1
Oh, really?
- Speaker #0
Yeah. So they're saying they're not, they don't want to work with their original manager, Simon Fuller. They want new management. Yeah, the feud just runs too deep. So it's basically over Gerry and Mel B. You know, they had their little romance. Apparently they went on for a year. There's a lot of conflicting reports, but like... they used to share about as friends. They had one sexual encounter, but then another report said it kind of went on for a year. But Mel B revealed all this in her 2019 interview with Piers Morgan with Mel C in the audience going, what the fuck have you just done? Jerry Halliwell, we all know, was mortified afterwards. And since then, it's just nobody can coax them together. So, you know, the way, say with the Oasis reunion, apparently it was Noel's... or Liam, one of the brothers girlfriends was able to like negotiate a reconciliation slash also the huge big money that they'd make out of it.
- Speaker #1
Isn't it just for money because they're like, isn't it they're going to be loads of measures in place to keep them separated? Yeah,
- Speaker #0
like I'd say it'll be interesting to see how that all works out. But for Mel and Gerry, it's like I think that those two women, they were the real like similar alpha energies.
- Speaker #1
Yes, I agree.
- Speaker #0
Of that group. And I think they're too similar and the egos are too...
- Speaker #1
You're so right, yeah.
- Speaker #0
And Mel knows, because she was on How to Fail with Elizabeth Day. It's a great episode. But Mel knows how to like poke, like in a sisterly way, but how to annoy Gerry. And then Gerry just closes off. Like she said that like, oh, we'd start off WhatsApp groups and Gerry would just leave. Mel would say something and Gerry would just leave. So they're just constantly butting heads. And Mel... is like annoying Gerry. Yeah, it just seems like the reunion isn't as close as we once thought.
- Speaker #1
Well, sure, Victoria isn't going to be in it anyway. Yeah,
- Speaker #0
I think we've kind of discounted her. You'd never get her away. That chapter, I think, is closed for Victoria. Yeah. But the other four would definitely make it work. I don't think there's going to be a reconciliation, unfortunately. But look, we cross our fingers.
- Speaker #1
Here's hoping. Gazza, this week it's your turn for a recommendation. What are you telling the girls to watch, listen or read?
- Speaker #0
Ah, well, I'm really enjoying this new TV show on Sky or now TV called The Franchise.
- Speaker #1
Okay.
- Speaker #0
Ensemble cast and it's about the making of a Marvel type film. So it's all like the background of like these big sound stages. Oh. And they make the Marvel movie so stupid. it's really funny. It's like this great British wit. So it's like there's a few Americans. I think it's filmed, it's a Marvel film being filmed in England. So all the kind of the backstage people are
- Speaker #1
British. Okay.
- Speaker #0
And then you have the like, the director and his ego, but it's mainly around the assistant directors. And you kind of get an inside understanding of how movies are made. And like, then you have like the actors and all their, the politics between all of them. You have, it's really laugh out loud funny. I think there's like four or five episodes. It comes out weekly, so you can catch up. It's a funny watch. It's directed by Sam Mendes, which is Kate Winslet's ex-husband.
- Speaker #1
Oh, yeah.
- Speaker #0
So basically he met one of the producers and he had this idea. But then that idea got like kind of cast by the wayside. He was chatting then about, so he directed some of the Bond films and they ended up getting pissed on the lunch and then talking about how ridiculous the Bond films were being made. And like all the like... it's this and then we need that and then this happens and all the ego. And then after it, the producers were like, why don't we make a TV show about this? So it was out of one idea came this. So it's really good. Really, really, really.
- Speaker #1
I want to watch that. What's it on Sky?
- Speaker #0
Sky and Now. Oh, great. Yeah, it's just a funny, and especially if you like, hate those Marvel films, it really takes the piss out of them in a nice way. But it's just like, it kind of shows how stupid they are and goes into all the like, different comic book plots. It's very funny.
- Speaker #1
Oh, I really want to watch that now. That's a great recogazzer. Killing it. Thank you so much for listening and tuning in this week. As we said, we're taking a brief hiatus because our phenomenal play queen Clara is walking down the aisle next week.
