Description
SEASON 3; Episode 10:
Welcome to Mature Allure. Is your loved one struggling with addiction and you don’t know how to help? Or perhaps you struggle with addiction yourself and need to know that there is help out there for you.
In this episode, I have an inspiring chat with Honesty Liller, a certified peer recovery specialist and the CEO of The McShin Foundation. Honesty is herself in recovery from a substance use disorder since 2007 and she is the author of Scattered Pink: A Diary of a Woman in Recovery.
“Peer to peer connection is what helped to save my life.”
“You've got to start somewhere. You have to do something because life is too short and it's really miserable living a life in addiction.”
“A lot of us used to be drug dealers, but now we're hope dealers.”
What we discuss:
(00:01) - Introduction
(01:35) - Honesty’s story of heroin addiction and recovery.
(10:37) - Honesty’s advice if you are trying to support someone with addiction.
(12:23) - Honesty’s advice if you are suffering with addiction.
(15:25) - Services offered by the McShin Foundation.
(19:19) - Suggestions for post rehab and recovery.

Key Takeaways:
Honesty’s story is proof that there is hope for those struggling to overcome addiction.
The person in recovery has to be accountable to the loved ones who are letting them back in.
Often holding it in causes a reoccurrence so there is a need to find safe people to talk to.
