Finally. An episode that is less than 2 hours long. It helps that this week we're covering Seizures in Barren Praise by grind/crust band Trap Them. The album is only 10 tracks and 25 minutes total. Compared to the last few episodes this one just BREEZES by! It also helps that Seizures in Barren Praise by Trap Them happens to be one of my favorite albums of all time. Illegally downloading this album from some guy's blogspot page when I was 16 started a snowball effect that would alter how I listened to heavy music going forward which made this a bit of a nostalgia trip for me. We also do our best to parse through the loose plot that makes up the concept of not only this album but all of Trap Them's music up to this point. \ The vinyl I have here I believe is a second pressing, standard weight on ultra clear vinyl. It comes in a nice enough trifold jacket which shows off the album's full artwork done by Converge vocalist Jacob Bannon. The album sounds perfectly fine. Minimal surface noise but if we're being honest, any surface noise would get lost in the chaos of the album anyway. I picked this up a few years ago used from Pharmacy Records in Greenville which is, for my money, the best place in the upstate to find metal/punk/hardcore records. We're lucky enough to have a few decent record stores here in the upstate but if you're into heavy music at all, Pharmacy is the one you wanna go to. In the news corner this week we check in with our old pal Tim Lambesis and see what his old band members are saying about him. Hint: it's not good. We also check in with what's going on with Death Grips and Andy Morin to see what a new band member is saying about him. Hint: It's not good. This week we're talking about probably the most consequential album in Nine Inch Nails' history. The Downward Spiral was a monumental success, widely considered to be a masterpiece. The Fragile was largely panned as being too bloated and self-indulgent (even if it is their best album imo). After that Trent Reznor took a full 6 years to produce an album and it needed to be a hit. With Teeth is a sharp, focused, lean product compared to The Fragile, and because of that was a massive success spawning many of their biggest hits. If you're around our age and just a casual listener, most of the NIN songs you know are probably from this album. In the news corner this week we cover a viral tiktok of some white kids being obnoxious during a rap concert. So business as usual. Of course it's finally time for us to cover a Kendrick Lamar album and it happens to be the most divisive album of his career. Kenny came out of a 5 year hiatus following his most commercially successful album at the time, DAMN, and delivered a double album that is deeply personal and sometimes uncomfortable to listen to. We try to cover all of the various controversies surrounding this album, both fair and unfair. From accusations of transphobia to the questionable inclusion of Kodak Black. But also some of the best material of Kendrick's career to date. In the news corner this week we cover how the hardcore band Gel fell apart over money laundering and leaked nudes. Also it's a Kendrick episode so of course we had to give some updates to the ongoing Drake lawsuit. Strap in it's a long one! This week we discuss the 6th full length album from one of my favorite bands since my high school days. Revocation's Great is our Sin is a great album that somehow still manages to be somewhat underwhelming? We talk about how having a such a consistent catalog and album release schedule can actually hurt the final product even if the final product is actually very good. We also do our best to try and answer the question of what hyper specific type of extreme metal Revocation is. Too thrashy to be death metal. Too death metal to be thrash. Too riff focused to be progressive. Too groovy to be technical death metal. Who knows. Also this week in the news corner we do our best to go over the case of Oceano and the Stolen Poster Art as well as give you a sneak peak and early review of the next Clipping album which gets released March 14th but we got an advanced copy by preordering the album. That's called journalism. Even though it's February already we're still stuck in 2024 over here finally counting down our favorite albums of the year as well as doing our best to recap the year in music with little to no preparation. It was a year of rap beefs, country artists topping the charts, non-country artists doing country to try and top the charts, Brat Summer, Doom Metal Winter, Sad Girl Autumn, so on and so forth. We try to cover the full gammut of music as we each countdown our individual top 10 albums of the year. So I guess it's really a top 20. Who cares we're back! Hosted by Ausha. OBS tried to stop us. A hurricane tried to stop us. My crippling ADD tried to stop us but we can't be stopped. We're back and we're covering obscure mid-2010s indie pop album In The Cards by Robert Delong. While still falling into some of the tropes of the EDM-tinged indie pop of it's time, In The Cards has enough personality and big enough hooks to stand above most of the artists in that crowd. Too bad it never quite reached the general public. In the news corner this week it's all about bands disrespecting the memories of their deceased lead singers. First we finally cover the storm of controversy around Emily Armstrong, the new vocalist of Linkin Park. Then we cover Power Trip going on tour opening for a certain band that Riley Gale would definitely NOT be happy with. That's right we're back baby. After a long hiatus we're finally covering the long promised Underneath by Code Orange. It's hard to understate how much of a splash this made in the metalcore and hardcore scenes when this album was first released. From the lead-up and promo, to what was probably the first lockdown-era live streamed concert for the release, to the subsequent "This band was the future of metal!" hype train that follows, I was on board 100% the entire time. It's also hard to understate how hard Code Orange has fumbled every subsequent creative decision since the release of this album and you better believe we talk about all of it. This week in the news corner you know we had to check in with our old friend Mr. Ronald Robinette Radke and break down his absolutely insane lawsuit against The Internet's Busiest Music Nerd, Anthony Fantano, for being a wittle to mean to him and hurting his feewings. Our release schedule is all screwed up and based on vibes at this point so here's Episode 37, featuring even more Maynard James Keenan! This week we cover Maynard's jokey solo project Puscifer, which is neither fully a joke nor is it really a solo project. The more mellow, chilled out and synth-focused side project of the Tool frontman is often overlooked as a joke band that only exists for hardcore Tool fans, this episode goes a little deeper to figure out what the band's second album really has to offer. This week in the news corner we do an update on the ongoing beef between Drake and Kendrick however this was recorded before Kendrick's response track dropped. We also discuss the new Taylor Swift album for a bit before getting to our main story, metalcore being way too demonic! Hosted by Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.
