This is the Path News Network Daily Edition, powered by the College of American Pathologists. I'm Brittani Riddle, in for Stevon Burrell. It's Thursday, October 9th, and here are today's headlines.
The CAP has updated requirements for the Interim Self-Inspection Verification Form to simplify the process for accredited laboratories. Effective immediately, labs are no longer required to submit the completed form to the CAP unless specifically requested. Completing the interim self-inspection, however, remains mandatory and failure to do so may result in a deficiency that could affect accreditation status. Laboratories should keep all documentation, including findings and corrective actions, on file for review during their next on-site inspection. Dr. Earle Collum explained, quote, We want to reduce regulatory burden for accredited labs while retaining all of the requirements that keep laboratories more fail-safe. Also today, the CAP is inviting feedback on new draft recommendations for measurable residual disease testing in B lymphoblastic leukemia. The open comment period runs now through October 29th. Draft recommendations address the use of flow cytometry, PCR, and next-generation sequencing for assessing treatment response in both pediatric and adult patients. The expert panel's goal is to develop evidence-based guidelines that strengthen diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.
Pathologists looking to amplify their influence can register now for the Engage Leadership Academy, taking place November 15th and 16th at CAP headquarters in Northfield, Illinois. The program builds communication and advocacy skills to help participants engage hospital leaders, policymakers, and peers, all while earning 7.5 CME credits. Graduates also join the Engaged Leaders Network, a nationwide community. reshaping how pathology is understood. Registration details are in the show notes.
And finally, the Hidalgo County Public Health Laboratory in Edinburg, Texas, has earned CAP accreditation following a recent on-site inspection. Inspectors reviewed the lab's safety programs, quality controls, and staff qualifications, confirming it meets the highest global standards for accuracy and patient safety. Lab Director Dr. Martha Luna said, quote, CAP accreditation is considered the gold standard for lab quality worldwide. We are proud and excited to receive this recognition.
