Description
Can type 2 diabetes be reversed through lifestyle and a plant-based diet? This week on the Plant Based Coaches Podcast, Rich Hubbard and Dr. Suzanne Foxx welcome Peggy Kraus, MA, RCEP, CDCES, a clinical exercise physiologist and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist who has spent nearly three decades helping people improve their health.
Peggy shares her experience working with clients with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes and the impressive changes she has witnessed through lifestyle intervention, including significant weight loss and dramatic improvements in A1C and blood sugar control.
We discuss why many people with type 2 diabetes may be able to achieve remission, particularly when lifestyle changes are made early enough, and how factors such as the duration of diabetes, insulin resistance, and remaining pancreatic beta-cell function can affect the outcome.
We also talk about type 1 diabetes. While type 1 diabetes cannot currently be reversed through diet and people with type 1 require insulin, improving diet and insulin sensitivity may help some individuals better manage their blood glucose and insulin requirements under appropriate medical supervision.
Peggy brings a wealth of experience to the conversation. She holds a master’s degree in adult exercise and is certified in diabetes care and education and plant-based nutrition. She has spent almost 30 years working in cardiac rehabilitation and has counseled thousands of people on exercise, diet, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, weight management, and sustainable lifestyle change.
Her philosophy focuses on practical, evidence-based habits rather than gimmicks or extreme approaches. She helps people understand how everyday choices involving food, movement, and lifestyle can have a powerful impact on metabolic and cardiovascular health.
In this episode, we discuss: • Plant-based nutrition and type 2 diabetes • A1C and blood sugar improvements • Insulin resistance and insulin sensitivity • When type 2 diabetes remission may be possible • Weight loss and metabolic health • Managing type 1 diabetes with a healthy lifestyle • Exercise and blood glucose • Creating sustainable habits for long-term health • Peggy’s nearly three decades of experience in cardiac rehabilitation
Whether you have diabetes, prediabetes, or simply want to improve your metabolic health, this is an informative and encouraging conversation about the power of lifestyle change.
