In this episode of the Spiritual Teachers Podcast, Petr interviews Hermes, a spiritual leader of the Arhuaco people from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, to reveal the hidden science, training, and wisdom of the mamos.

Mamos are often described as “spiritual scientists” — individuals trained from childhood for 30–35 years in isolation to master disciplines such as mathematics, astronomy, medicine, and the energetic balance of nature. Hermes explains how this ancient system of knowledge differs from modern education, focusing on direct communication with the Earth rather than books or institutions.

The conversation explores the traditions and history of the indigenous peoples connected to the ancient Tayrona civilization, including the descendants known today as the Arhuaco, Kogi, Wiwa, and Kankuamo tribes. Hermes shares how these communities survived the Spanish conquest, endured genocide, and preserved their knowledge in the mountains now known as the “Heart of the World.”

Key topics include:

The 30–35 year training process to become a mamo
Indigenous science: mathematics, astronomy, and natural energy systems
Sacred traditions like the poporo and pagamentos (offerings to nature)
The role of crystals, nature communication, and Earth balance
The history of the Tayrona people and the impact of colonization
Indigenous governance through consensus and spiritual leadership
The mission to protect the Sierra Nevada as a global energy center

Hermes also shares the deeper philosophy behind indigenous life — that humanity must return to harmony with nature. Through the initiative “Heart of the World: Peace with Nature,” he invites modern society to reconnect with the Earth and restore balance.
