Episode 5: In Discussion with Kalliopi Terzidou – From Courtrooms to Chatbots: Can AI Close the Justice Gap?

As generative AI continues to reshape the legal landscape, fundamental questions arise about its impact on access to justice, legal practice, and the administration of justice itself.

In this episode, Frédérique Boulanger had the pleasure of speaking with Kalliopi Terzidou about some of the most pressing legal and ethical challenges surrounding the use of AI in the justice sector.

The discussion explores:

⚖️ The use of Large Language Models (LLMs) in the administration of justice and judicial processes

⚖️ The implications of AI for the right to a fair trial and procedural safeguards

⚖️ The management, publication, and pseudonymization of judicial decisions in an increasingly digital legal ecosystem

⚖️ The growing adoption of generative AI tools by legal professionals and the opportunities and risks they create

⚖️ The interaction between AI systems, business secrecy, legal privilege, and broader confidentiality obligations

As courts, law firms, and legal institutions navigate rapid technological change, striking the right balance between innovation, efficiency, transparency, and fundamental rights remains a critical challenge.
