  Prepare for your Pilates exam stress-free over six months and answer one question each day. I originate in the subscapular fossa of the scapula on its anterior surface. I insert on the lesser tubercle of the humerus and reinforce the anterior capsule of the shoulder joint. I stabilize the head of the humerus in the glenoid cavity, medially rotate the arm, and assist in adduction. I am innervated by the upper and lower subscapular nerves arising from the posterior cord of the brachial plexus, C5 to C7. I am one of the four muscles of the rotator cuff. On the reformer, during the rowing back, I keep the humeral head centered while pulling and engage. when the arm draws back into internal rotation. On the Cadillac, during the arm circles, I work concentrically, as I bring the arms closer to the body, and eccentrically as they move away. On the mat work during the saw, I activate to control the shoulder of the reaching arm, especially if internal rotation occurs.
