  Preparing for your Pilates exam without stress and answering one question each day means learning to read the muscles beyond their names and teaching Pilates as Joseph Pilates intended it to be passed on. I originate on the posterior surface of the tibia, just below the soleal line. I travel down the leg and divide into four tendons that attach to the bases of the distal phalanges of the second to fifth toes. I am innervated by the tibial nerve from roots S2 to S3. My main function is to flex the lateral toes and support the medial arch of the foot. But I am also a supinator of the foot. I help lift the inner border and stabilize the ankle during every weight transfer. Without me, propulsion would lose precision and balance would become uncertain. On the reformer during footwork, I activate the toes to anchor and maintain neutral alignment of the foot. On the stability chair, I control pronation and refine the stability of the lower limb. On the Cadillac, in a standing position with the push-through bar, I maintain the arch during rotational disc movements. And on the ladder barrel, even before the handstand, I prepare the toes for a stable grounding. I work in the shadows, yet without me, no support would ever be truly solid. Who am I?
