Meet Francesca Ziniel, Narcotics Control Officer from Ghana and trainer for the CIB. Holding a BSc in Port and Shipping Administration and a Master's in International Affairs and Diplomacy, she went from dreaming of becoming a marine engineer as a child to boarding vessels, profiling and leading training across Ghana and the Gulf of Guinea. She reflects on being underestimated as a woman in a male dominated field, from officers assuming a man must be in charge to ship captains doubting her authority until her knowledge of maritime law and IMO protocols speaks for itself. Her advice to young women considering the sector: dream big, stay determined, and build knowledge and integrity. She sees the future of maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea as bright, and as a woman.
