boop boop boop
- Speaker #1
Kenny is down I opened my calculator by mistake I did this, I was like how you know you're tired and I had typed a phone number into my calculator oh yeah it was tough it was a tough day I was like why can't I get through and I was like why isn't this email sending because you've written it on your fucking calculator that's why Hello and welcome to House of Gossip. We are here with your weekly dose of pop culture nourishment. My name is Clara Kavna and on the other side of this botty call is Sophie Lyons. Sophie, how are you?
- Speaker #0
I'm fabulous, Gazza, how are you?
- Speaker #1
Good. In all our years of podcasting, I think this is our first Saturday record.
- Speaker #0
I'm so much more lackadaisical in a nice way.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, we just had a lovely chat.
- Speaker #0
We had like an hour of ketchup.
- Speaker #1
Yeah. This is great.
- Speaker #0
It was really nice. I was like, this is really like the way life should be.
- Speaker #1
Yeah. Good old Saturday night.
- Speaker #0
I love a Saturday night in.
- Speaker #1
Yeah. Oh, isn't it great?
- Speaker #0
I really do. But there is a stretch in the evening, ladies.
- Speaker #1
There is.
- Speaker #0
Spring is coming.
- Speaker #1
Come on. We've nearly done it.
- Speaker #0
We're totally there. I have to tell you, I didn't feel the darkness as much this year.
- Speaker #1
did you i actually this year i really felt it i really felt it on the in the rain the constant constant rain i found that a bit difficult i feel like there's been a lot of rain of late and it's just really like let me go out for my sad little plod around the park that's all i want to do yeah i got wet trotters last week and i had to sit in work with a full too wet full up
- Speaker #0
to my ankles wet No,
- Speaker #1
God, you should be getting sick. There's that immune system back working.
- Speaker #0
Well, I had the plague before Christmas. So like if I got it again, it wouldn't have been fair.
- Speaker #1
It's so fair.
- Speaker #0
We didn't do a J'adore and a test last week.
- Speaker #1
All Brooklyn business.
- Speaker #0
Because it was an all business. We did it on a Friday.
- Speaker #1
Yeah.
- Speaker #0
So because we have more time. Let's go for it, Gazza. What are you J'adore-ing or J'etesting? In the last day of January, we're recording this.
- Speaker #1
I am J'adore-ing going back to what you know. I have found the news of late super depressing. Every headline you read and all that stuff, it's just been like very heavy and very like, is World War III going to happen? That's why I'm so grateful to Brooklyn for his release.
- Speaker #0
I think that was a global like, thank you.
- Speaker #1
Thank you. No consequence drama. You know, it's like frivolous. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Can we just focus on not World War III? But I'm finding like, I don't want to do anything, like watch or consume anything new. I just want to go back to things that I know the words of.
- Speaker #0
Welcome to my world.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, it's like trauma.
- Speaker #0
That's all I do.
- Speaker #1
Good, yeah.
- Speaker #0
All I do is watch repeats.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, so I've done that with Sex and City. I haven't watched it for a while.
- Speaker #0
Easy.
- Speaker #1
Like I literally haven't seen, particularly like say season five or one's episodes that you just don't watch very much.
- Speaker #0
Season five is a very short one, isn't it?
- Speaker #1
I still know the words and it's amazing. and then I'm going back and I'm co-listening. with the Sentimental in the City podcast, which I also kind of know the words to because I've listened to it so many times.
- Speaker #0
I would be nervous if I could see how many times I've listened to each one of those. I don't know if you can do that on Spotify.
- Speaker #1
I don't think you can.
- Speaker #0
It'd be very exposing. It would. If I like something and it keeps me relaxed, I just put it on when I go to sleep.
- Speaker #1
And loads of people have been asking me, have you watched Heated Rivalry? No. Sorry, I can't do new at the moment.
- Speaker #0
have i watched the new season of drag race no and instructor in the gym was like who's watching heated rivalry and like one person was like whoa and she was like are you serious because everyone's watching it apparently i'm not watching it i did catch a glimpse and it looks great don't get me wrong looks very sexual very and everyone's like this is so your bag and i'm like i know but i just can't go there i
- Speaker #1
just need like soothing comfort of i know what's gonna happen so yeah j'adore That's in...
- Speaker #0
high school musical yeah stick to the stuff you know stick to the stuff you know so loving just the whole experience also i think when you watch it at different ages you like you'll relate to different stuff but like the older i get the more i'm like it's so weird i was like oh why would you want to be a miranda like yeah if someone calls you a miranda it's an insult and i like i realized kind of like around 30 i was like no no miranda is the business.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, she's the best woman.
- Speaker #0
She's the most sane out of all of them. Do you know what I mean?
- Speaker #1
Yeah, she is. And also like say, like some of the, I watched the Ring-a-ding-ding episode where Carrie needs to pay, get the down payment on her apartment because Aidan's kicking her out. And then she hassles Charlotte for the ring. And it's like, now I see it so differently. And the one where her shoes get lost at the party and then your one's been real difficult.
- Speaker #0
Your one minimizing her.
- Speaker #1
And I was like, I fucking paid for your... wedding I got you a present your wedding was abroad then you've had like a million children I bought them all presents and at the time I found that episode really annoying and then now I'm like this girl no such a point she was a Kerry Bradshaw was ahead of her time oh it's such justice yeah it's great love that Mick has kind of been like passively watching it because I watch it on the telly so he's like picking up on me possibly yeah I know sometimes we'll watch like for episodes. he is obsessed with Samantha like obsessed and it's like you know the bit like I'm no fan of the theatre but get your cock out what does that mean what does that mean it's so funny Smith Jared I changed his name like every scene he just lights up when she comes on the screen and she is, she just adds that's why you miss her so much you know just like that oh but you know the one you know she's like i'm dating the guy with the funkiest tasting spunk and then like charlotte just walks out and like never comes back she's so offended and she's like i was just so disappointing it's like opening a bottle of boujee on the first day of the season tasting bad what's she talking about it's so genius it's genius yeah that's been fun to see samantha jones through a newbie's eyes
- Speaker #0
Through the ages. I love that.
- Speaker #1
So maybe I'm just adoring Samantha Jones. Anyway, so what are you... Are you a visual? Are you a test this week?
- Speaker #0
I'm loving the Hilary Duff Renaissance.
- Speaker #1
Sorry, is there a tour or something?
- Speaker #0
Yeah, so she did a short one. And I had it on my phone like an alarm to go and get tickets.
- Speaker #1
Yeah.
- Speaker #0
And I forgot. No. Sorry, the original, this one that she's just done in London.
- Speaker #1
Oh, okay.
- Speaker #0
She did like one two weeks ago or something. But she's just announced a world tour. oh my god but she's like breathtaking like her face a child's face she looks unbelievable and she she's good at laughing at what she was doing when she was like 15 and stuff making fun of it and the costumes is like an homage to pop star hillary duff but in 2026 she's like wearing this like denim parachute pant with like a cool corset like it's so cool yeah she got class and singing like let the rain fall down and she's playing what we want she's playing the bangers and we didn't talk about this because this happened on our hiatus but the toxic mom group wow all that came out and then she went and just did all these shows and just hasn't said anything i'm like you're an icon yes unbelievable but like make it a because it kind of brought that whole drama thing has brought her
- Speaker #1
name back into the pop culture and then now it's like oh my god I'd love to go see her in concert
- Speaker #0
I actually saw her when I was like 17 where in the point oh wow
- Speaker #1
I think I got a t-shirt from it love her she is great yeah she's so many bangers do you think she is a toxic mom group member she's definitely in that group yeah but what are your thoughts on that who's the toxic one I don't know I feel like I don't know why Ashley Tisdale would throw all those stones knowing that she her nose wasn't clean I just love how the husbands got involved. That really made me laugh. Sorry,
- Speaker #0
the husband photoshopping the thing.
- Speaker #1
Was that Hilary Duff's husband?
- Speaker #0
Hilary Duff's husband photoshopped the entire thing. Like, it was very well done.
- Speaker #1
So good.
- Speaker #0
And like, I don't have anything to back this up.
- Speaker #1
Yeah.
- Speaker #0
But I think Ashley Tisdale's the problem.
- Speaker #1
100%.
- Speaker #0
And she's very cranky.
- Speaker #1
And she didn't think, she was like, oh, I'm just going to get all this public sympathy by saying this. but then actually didn't think, oh, people might actually look at me after.
- Speaker #0
How do you go and do an article like that and not think of a repercussion of like, people are going to look on the Instagram and see the photos. And if you're now saying it's not them.
- Speaker #1
Yeah. So you're in two toxic mom groups.
- Speaker #0
And you're not, you know, oh, you're saying that she's a real MAGA head and stuff. Yeah.
- Speaker #1
And then her PR team had to say, oh, no, she's not MAGA or no, she didn't. She's in another group. Yeah. Look over there.
- Speaker #0
Like it wasn't a mic drop.
- Speaker #1
No. And like, do you not realise the internet is full of sleuths? So like, you need to be like clean as a whistle if you're going to say stuff like that.
- Speaker #0
I love the term sleuth.
- Speaker #1
Yeah. How could you possibly be in two toxic mom groups? That makes no sense. And also, even if that was the case, like by posting that, you know that you make it look like it's Hilary Duff and Mandy Moore. Because everybody knows you're in this group. So even if it was innocently, I'm posting about another mom group, you're going to make them look guilty.
- Speaker #0
But there was nothing innocent about it. Like she was like, these moms, maybe one.
- Speaker #1
But what I really want to know, because they were photographed, I saw them on page six just this day as I was prepping.
- Speaker #0
Who?
- Speaker #1
Ashley Tisdale and Hayley Duff, Hilary's sister.
- Speaker #0
Oh yes, I know all the gossip.
- Speaker #1
So they're... their friends and it doesn't seem like Hillary and Hayley are friends.
- Speaker #0
Hillary and her sister haven't spoken for years.
- Speaker #1
So that's a hot.
- Speaker #0
Apparently it's a political thing and Hayley is kind of like Republican leaning and moved to Texas. Also apparently had to do with Hillary Dove's ex-husband where the sister kept up the relationship with the ex-husband and then wasn't super welcoming of the new guy, the new husband. And that caused friction and stuff. But she has a new song on her new album. And it's about her sister. She's like, oh, I wish we could talk this out and call you up and blah, But I think she's had, since she got married, did she have one kid before that? But I doubt the kids have met each other. The younger kids.
- Speaker #1
God, that's sad when it's a sister.
- Speaker #0
It's really sad because they did a lot of work together. They did that movie. Rags to Riches or Hillary's.
- Speaker #1
definitely the star. What always confused me was like as parents why would you call one kid Hillary and the other one Hayley? The names are too similar. It's very strange. That's sad that they don't get out. I know.
- Speaker #0
I kind of hope we see something. It's kind of died down.
- Speaker #1
It has.
- Speaker #0
Meghan Trainor again. Remember we were talking about like what is what sort of voodoo is she in that she everyone knows her but like what? Do you know what I mean?
- Speaker #1
It's unusual.
- Speaker #0
Shaggyr Mann what's his name again? Conor Maynard. What are you doing here? Do you know what I mean? Like her songs are like TikTok.
- Speaker #1
It's very TikTok. I just feel like she's out of our algorithm. Now, before we get into our big topics, we had such an amazing reaction to the Brooklyn salty spice of it all. And I obviously I'm still can't let go of this whole Bran Beckham thing. And I just want to bring up a number of key points, two key points. And I saw this on. Bear with me. You know, Vanessa Feltz.
- Speaker #0
Yeah.
- Speaker #1
She is a talk show.
- Speaker #0
Currently.
- Speaker #1
Yeah. Who knew? On what channel? Who knows? I saw it on Instagram. But she had this lawyer come on and talk about like the timing of all this and like of Brooklyn Statement and why it matters and from a legal standpoint. And she said, so Victoria Beckham owns the trademark of Brooklyn Beckham and she owns them for all the kids. So he can't trade on his own name. That's why he has the cloud 23 and you the hot sauce and all that. It's like he can't say Brooklyn Beckham's hot sauce because he doesn't own this.
- Speaker #0
Because his mum owns the trademark.
- Speaker #1
This lawyer was kind of saying that she was questioning the timing of his big reveal because Victoria's trademark of the Brooklyn Beckham name runs out in December.
- Speaker #0
You mean last December? No,
- Speaker #1
2026.
- Speaker #0
Oh yes, okay, yeah.
- Speaker #1
So she was kind of questioning going like so there's a few options. Will Victoria go you in December, here is your name, do what you want. Or will she go, I'm re-registering, like suck it up. And then it's, what does Brooklyn do? Does Brooklyn try and block the re-register and fight for his own name? So was he trying to like cut ties and spin the public in his favour? So then she'd have to surrender his name, come...
- Speaker #0
And get ahead of it, basically.
- Speaker #1
And surrender it come December, because she's like... I'll look like a real dickhead now.
- Speaker #0
Wait, sorry, Victoria owns it or David and Victoria?
- Speaker #1
Just Victoria. I'll get on to David in a second. He doesn't even own his name. But it's very interesting now because if come December, if Victoria goes, I'm re-registering, I'm owning your trademark, what everything Brooklyn is saying about Bran Beckham holds true. And it's like, she won't even give me my name. I don't have my name.
- Speaker #0
So it was almost like, I want my trademark. And it's expiring. So I need this to go public. So because it will be so damaging for her to go. No, I'm keeping it.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, make her look like a real money hungry mama. But it was interesting. Look, it's just one lawyer's point of view.
- Speaker #0
And Vanessa Feltz.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, spearheading of news on Vanessa Feltz's show. And then I listened to, I've obviously consumed. probably every podcast on this, but the David Beckham of it all, he doesn't own his name. His brand, so David Beckham Ventures, he sold 55% of that, like his name and his brand. In 2022, he sold it. He sold 55% of it to this company called ABG for $269 million. So quarter of a billion dollars. And ABG are this like... huge big brand empire. They own Guess Jeans, Reebok, and they have the eternal rights. I don't know what that means, but I assume it means the trademark too. Muhammad Ali, Marlon Monroe and Elvis Presley. So this is like a conglomerate brand hub that David is now a part of, that they bought. And that company itself, ABG, are owned by like big money investors. So Obviously with an investment, businesses invest in it and they want their return on investment. But now apparently this ABG crowd are like really worried about the value of this David Beckham Ventures brand and the PR around it because, you know, they've made this investment and now it's kind of plummeting because Brooklyn poked a hole in their authenticity. I thought it was kind of interesting that like none of them own their own names. I thought that was absolutely mad.
- Speaker #0
Yeah, I'm shocked he would sell that like majority stake.
- Speaker #1
He's fucking, that proves my point of how he's willing to sell his own name to make a buck.
- Speaker #0
What does he make? He makes perfume or fragrance.
- Speaker #1
He did a lifetime deal with Adidas for like 120 million, say, for Adidas. So he's just like a brand ambassador at this point.
- Speaker #0
But that wouldn't be included in that brand deal.
- Speaker #1
I suppose it adds to his value, though, as he's selling.
- Speaker #0
runners for money being thrown around here like people have too much money and they're greedy i'll get on to greedy greedy later greedy sorry i know that's quite a legal start to the show but i just think it's important we need to know the business of these people i love a legal update and apparently to finish the lawyer who was on vanessa felts's esquire
- Speaker #1
was saying that apparently the rumor has that the Beckhams are spending £100,000 a month. on PR because they have these brands to protect they've got shareholders they're like David Beckham has there was probably a board meeting about Brooklyn's release because it affects not just David and Victoria it affects all these shareholders all these investors like it is a bit mad you know what's weird though I think if they pulled back a bit in general people would want more yeah like before this whole thing.
- Speaker #0
the Brooklyn thing like as in going to the press all the time and stuff like that I feel like if they pulled back then people would demand more do you know what I mean?
- Speaker #1
Less is more Yeah Yeah it's too available Oh and then another salacious rumour to finish two little rumours that I heard that I adore Did you hear about Nicola Peltz getting about her pocket money from her dad?
- Speaker #0
Yeah I saw something I didn't click into it A million dollars a month
- Speaker #1
Allowance.
- Speaker #0
How is that necessary?
- Speaker #1
What would she be doing?
- Speaker #0
Sorry, the dad is known as the crocodile. How scary is that?
- Speaker #1
God. Yeah, there's an awful succession vibe off them. And then The Sun is reporting that Brooklyn and Nicola are considering a huge deal to sell footage of the wedding and their vow renewal. Apparently they've been inundated with offers from streaming services and production companies to gain the rights to the footage. They could sell that.
- Speaker #0
Of Victoria?
- Speaker #1
Yeah, of their two weddings, the Val Renewal and the other wedding.
- Speaker #0
No way would they sell that.
- Speaker #1
You know, that would be... Because they're the only ones with receipts.
- Speaker #0
I'm just hoping someone on the inside, a cleaner, you know, a house manager, something, gets their paws on it and makes the... I hope, like, the smaller man makes money off it if it ever gets sold. Yeah,
- Speaker #1
a bit like the... Beyonce Jay-Z elevator we need a bit of that
- Speaker #0
250k at the time worth so much more that broke the internet that could have been 250 million I was just listening to stuff about that recently we never got an answer to that It's unreal.
- Speaker #1
We probably never will.
- Speaker #0
That was unreal. My God. It was so good.
- Speaker #1
It's just Beyonce's reaction. Okay, Solange is like caught up in the moment, but it's the Beyonce just kind of going into this like trance in the corner. Like it made it feel like that wasn't the first time it happened.
- Speaker #0
That's what I was going to say. She's like, this is happening again. Whatever they're arguing about.
- Speaker #1
Yeah.
- Speaker #0
She can't do anything.
- Speaker #1
Yeah. It's like this is a historic. Because as you know, one of the taglines of House of Gossip, if it's hysterical, it's historical.
- Speaker #0
I wanted to ask you about this because I saw it on some like psychology thing.
- Speaker #1
Yeah.
- Speaker #0
And I forgot to read through it. Can you re-explain what that means?
- Speaker #1
So if you have like a hysterical or an overreaction to something, it means it's like picking at a war wound. So like, say if this has happened to me. In a new relationship, if an old problem rears its ugly head in a new relationship and you get like irrationally upset about it.
- Speaker #0
Triggered.
- Speaker #1
Triggered. It's because you have your past drama.
- Speaker #0
Totally.
- Speaker #1
Even though the new situation is completely different.
- Speaker #0
You're bringing that baggage into the new one. It's getting quite philosophical. I'm liking it.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, Saturday chill.
- Speaker #0
It is Unagi Saturday.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, we've done Friday, early Friday mornings and that has a new energy.
- Speaker #0
this that has a good one though because it's friday happy perky yeah yeah the end is in near but you still have enough pressure where you're kind of go go go yeah giddy i think the people are going to like this change of pace yeah we're giving a whole range of motion here gather you've also listened to it i think I listened to Kim Kardashian on Khloe Kardashian's podcast. They did a part one and part two. I have some general thoughts on it. And I know you listened to it sped up, which was a much better idea because, God, they talk slowly.
- Speaker #1
The vocal fry. Anything the Kardashians or call her daddy. Always better on a 1.5, 1.3.
- Speaker #0
Now, some of the stuff I really liked that they spoke about was the people that they're always questioning if Kim is still friends with them. And if they were falling out and they went into like Larissa Pippen, which is like so good. And like it was such a pure answer. They're not friends. And she's like, yeah, you know, same with that one Brittany Gastineau, who is like her best friend. And now they're never seen together. She's like, yeah, I am. You know, she doesn't have kids. And they went through a load of them. And I was like, this is what I want from a podcast.
- Speaker #1
Even the dogs. It was like pretending she still owns like sushi and...
- Speaker #0
She didn't really answer the question. Why did she get them each a dog if they already have two dogs?
- Speaker #1
Yeah. And I was like, oh, they're still here. I was like, are they?
- Speaker #0
They're still around. And I'm like, no, they're not. No, they're not. Big fat lie. They also spoke about Meghan Markle and Harry removing the photos from the Instagram post, which I thought was very interesting. And she said the reason was they said, yes, again. do they ever prepare properly, Meghan and Harry? They said yes and then retracted it after going, oh shit, it's Remembrance Day?
- Speaker #1
Yeah, I just remembered it's Remembrance Day.
- Speaker #0
Very, very odd. They spoke about Britney Spears coming for a sleepover. Do you remember we saw those videos? And they were like, oh, she wanted a bit of girl time, which made me quite sad.
- Speaker #1
It's really sad.
- Speaker #0
I wanted a bit of girl time and the manager reached out. That made me very sad. In the show, and then she kind of reiterated it, there's a lot of, like, I need to own that.
- Speaker #1
And,
- Speaker #0
like, Courtney's brought it up a bit with the Dolce & Gabbana thing. You know, she's like, you take. You take. You know, you have to keep going. And when does it end, basically?
- Speaker #1
Yeah. When is enough enough?
- Speaker #0
Yeah. A lot of the kind of memorabilia she owns, I've noticed, like, it's quite intense. Like, I think she has, like, is it, like, Elizabeth Taylor's first?
- Speaker #1
contract she owns a paper contract and she owns like is it jackie o's watch she bought that watch oh yeah britney spears is that crystal bra she wore she owns that but like her house is clutter free you need to open up a museum to even enjoy these stuff it's
- Speaker #0
like they're just gonna sit in a warehouse somewhere but it's like i need it i need it for what and then once you get it you forget it. Yeah. And same with like the Cher. I think she has a few shares like pieces of jewelry oh she's all her bob mackie outfits from the um share and sunny show yeah and something janet jackson owns as well oh she wore a full janet jackson costume to a janet jackson show but i think she got backlash for that as well because it was like why are you wearing her costume or something like that and you know that like bible did you see that episode where she bought the bible oh yeah dad's bible which i get that part yeah it's like a sentimental piece but then she also bought like who's that guy is it peewee herman you You know that cartoon? I don't know what he is, to be honest. He's real American. I don't think he's alive anymore. But she bought Courtney his original bike for Christmas. Like, it's just a lot of like, that was here and I wanted it in my possession. I was like, but what do you do? Like, I get some bits, don't get me wrong. But some of the stuff I'm like, that's weird.
- Speaker #1
It's very, yeah, just take,
- Speaker #0
it is take you don't care about it after you've gotten it or something it just feels a bit yeah it's all it more feels like the pursuit yeah I think she gets a bit high off the pursuit but it's kind of like building an empire it's like gimme gimme gimme gimme hungry hippo and they talk about you know their Kardashian closet thing where they resell the clothes and it's like it's like a charity segment they do on it about their cousin Cece it was like you know we get a lot of backlash about kardashian closet and you know people don't know the story and it's so slow you're like get to the punchline and they're like um cc you know couldn't really work and she loves clothes and this gave her something to get up in the morning for as if it was some kind of life changing yeah i find that a bit too much like sometimes i'm like you're drinking each other's kool-aid too much like we Jumps. You don't need to use your podcast to float a PR piece about something like that. Like some stuff I'm like, would you just give over?
- Speaker #1
But the issue with the Kardashian closet is they sell that stuff for their own profit. So they're going like, we thought of the real real before the real real. This is like vintage selling at its best. We were pioneers in this or whatever. And our cousin Cece is at the helm of it. But it's like people wouldn't have a problem with that business model. The problem is... You're selling old Birkin bags for like 10 grand and pocketing that cash like that should just go to charity and Cece's there working on it on with a team it's like you guys have enough money that would be such an amazing charity if you were like you bought a Birkin off Kim Kardashian.
- Speaker #0
But it's how the rich stay rich.
- Speaker #1
But like Cece has cancer you could do it for a cancer charity.
- Speaker #0
No I'm telling you I just saw a clip there and I was like this definitely was paid for by production. They had, you know, Chris's sister's, her niece is getting married. And she has the niece over and brings Oscar de la Renta dresses. And I was like, I'd love to buy your wedding dress. And she has it on the show. like 100% that dress is probably covered in the budget of the show. Do you know what I mean?
- Speaker #1
Because even what Kim said on Call Her Daddy, she was like, oh, they were like, how much, Alex Cooper was like, how much she spent on makeup. She was like, I don't know because like I get the show to pay for my glam or if I do an event, I'll get them to pay for my glam. So she's still a bit of a wheeler and dealer.
- Speaker #0
Of course.
- Speaker #1
But in all their like, say Skims is like billion, like, you know, all their deals are in the millions. You selling 10,000. Excuse me. bless you that's so cute but you spending earning 10k from an old Birkin or an old Dolce & Gabbana dress or whatever say if that's a grand like that's like a minuscule in the other deals that you're signing so like you should be giving away that stuff for free but you know when people are wealthy like that's why they're wealthy because they have the detail and the minute yeah you
- Speaker #0
know what I mean like as in you know there's people that are very very comfortable and then there'll be like I'm not paying for parking in town.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, yeah.
- Speaker #0
That kind of stuff. Like it's that mentality. That's where they make it all out of.
- Speaker #1
They're just stingy.
- Speaker #0
Yeah, I wonder what are they like with tipping and stuff?
- Speaker #1
That's a crucial question.
- Speaker #0
Yeah. Some of the stuff as well. She's like, I had my 14th birthday in Neverland. Like they had a bonkers childhood. Really bonkers.
- Speaker #1
And the Wesley Stipe story was crazy.
- Speaker #0
That was so weird.
- Speaker #1
It's like she wasn't famous at that point.
- Speaker #0
Taking her for breakfast. I was like that breakfast sounded really good.
- Speaker #1
Yeah. So sorry. Back but slight bit of context. But she basically went on a night out pre phones. Her got lost from her friend. Just had the address written or the phone number written on her arm. And then she went up to this man being like, can you help me get home? And then it was basically Wesley Snipes. And he took her for he was like, I'm going to breakfast and gave her like a telling off. being like you you can't go around drinking with no phone or no or with no way to get home and losing the 20 in your bra this is ridiculous but he like saved her from like the sounds like a nice guy great she was like i never got to thank him maybe
- Speaker #0
that was her way some of the stuff i just thought was interesting but it is a good listen because they do ask some stuff that like no one I was going to ask. And most of the time she answers, I think, fairly honestly. I think the friendship ones were a bit glossed over.
- Speaker #1
What did you make of all the North stuff?
- Speaker #0
Oh, the homeschooling. I forgot about that. It was very intense when she was like, you know, I'm actually, I'm not going to bother impersonating him because it takes too long, but it's too slow. But she was like, oh, North is homeschooled. And, you know, we do branding classes and we do, you know, instead of maths, we'll do, you know. balance sheets and um you know she made a line of hats and she goes and gets the fabric and you know we'll add it all up and i'm like you don't need to give us that much detail like we understand she does different subjects anyway but then she's like and you know i took time off because north wanted me there in all her classes i was like what yeah so she said she's six months was it why does your child that's a lie oh i was i was like i guess why Thank you. you know, she's not your average kid. But going to school would have been her last sense of normality.
- Speaker #1
Yeah. And now you just cut that tether.
- Speaker #0
Yeah. And like, I obviously don't know the ins and outs. And, you know, it's just obviously different. But I was just like, oh, she's at such a tender age.
- Speaker #1
She needs a peer.
- Speaker #0
Yeah. I almost wonder, like, what was the catalyst for her leaving school? Like, was it like, is she...
- Speaker #1
can't really relate to her peers like any like what is it she's quite a though like even from what we've seen on her with the kardashians like she is like Quite a unique personality, very like her dad. So it would be very hard to bridle that kind of child.
- Speaker #0
Yeah.
- Speaker #1
I think she was on stage with him over the weekend singing with him. So, you know, she does live a different...
- Speaker #0
Afflicting because she's like, on Call Her Daddy, she was like, you know, it's been a couple of months since he's asked to see them.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, it's hard to know what's actually going on there. Especially, you know, you heard about his... big ad he took out. Was it in the Washington Post or the New York Times? Yeah,
- Speaker #0
I didn't read the full thing. I was like, no.
- Speaker #1
Acknowledging all his behavior. But it's like, that's great and all. One, actions speak louder. So let's see what you actually do with it. But number two, your album is coming out in a few days. So is there a reason why you're apologizing?
- Speaker #0
Oh, tinfoil hat. Bit of competition.
- Speaker #1
It's like, sorry, your album's coming out. That's the only reason Is there any reason you're apologising?
- Speaker #0
I didn't know he has an album coming out.
- Speaker #1
Don't get me wrong. But also, like, bipolar is such an awful disease and so hard to live with. But being bipolar does not make you a racist or an anti-Semite. That just doesn't happen.
- Speaker #0
Wasn't the whole thing, though, that he wasn't taking medication?
- Speaker #1
Even in the documentary, you know, the one that he did that kind of incriminated the crowd, or where we saw that scary video with him shouting at Chris. Like, there are people who are trying to tell him and he won't listen. And then... You have all this money and power and fame behind you. So like, it's just like, seems like such a perfect storm. But it's still like, the damage is fucking done. Like, the die is cast here, pal. I don't know if you can come back.
- Speaker #0
Very unusual. However, all in all, I thought it was quite juicy. Part one and part two.
- Speaker #1
Because that's the shit you just don't get on the TV show. It's good kiki with the Kardashians. Need a bit of goss.
- Speaker #0
Let's swap it up to something a lot more horny. In quotation marks, which is very controversial, the fact that it's in quote marks, Wuthering Heights. It's coming out in two weeks.
- Speaker #1
Yeah.
- Speaker #0
Sorry, Valentine's Day. What a cool idea.
- Speaker #1
Oh, iconic.
- Speaker #0
It looks so sexual. I also, sorry, before we recorded this, I was like, do you know the plot? And I don't know the plot. So I've asked my favorite bot, GPT. for a very short plot description. Wuthering Heights is about Heathcliff and Catherine. So Heathcliff will be Jacob Elordi, Catherine is Margot Robbie, whose intense love turns destructive when Catherine marries someone else for status. Heathcliff spends years taking revenge on everyone involved, ruining two families. After his death, the generation breaks the cycle and the story ends with hope.
- Speaker #1
That is very intriguing.
- Speaker #0
From what I'm seeing... in the trailer is it that they're in love she marries someone else for status and he has a glow up he definitely goes rags to riches he does like he has a full glow up like he's got his hair done and all that kind of stuff yeah and he obviously comes back with his new look and tries to
- Speaker #1
get a bit of a revenge but they obviously have a lot like a very strong sexual chemistry very and yeah I wish we did this in school because the people who were really passionate about it like I'd love to have read it when I was like 18, 19 but maybe you Maybe I'll do it for Book Club.
- Speaker #0
Is it a big book?
- Speaker #1
It feels long.
- Speaker #0
Yeah, because you're one, what's the, you're one...
- Speaker #1
Emerald Fennell, or Fennell? I never know. I think Fennell sounds better.
- Speaker #0
Fennell Salad,
- Speaker #1
whatever. Yeah.
- Speaker #0
She said the reason it was in quote marks is because this book is so complicated and deep that no one could ever actually do it as a movie. It's like inspired, I don't know what she said, inspired by it.
- Speaker #1
It's a version of...
- Speaker #0
Yeah, and she also did Saltburn. So very quirky.
- Speaker #1
So they've been saying this mad stuff about each other.
- Speaker #0
Like quite intense.
- Speaker #1
Quite intense. It's a little bit like how Ariana and Cynthia Erivo were with each other, but on a hetero level.
- Speaker #0
And like Andrew Scott and Paul Meskel.
- Speaker #1
Yes.
- Speaker #0
Do you remember they were like sitting on each other's lap?
- Speaker #1
Yeah. I understand, especially with like, say, the Marty Supreme film rollout. And like to get people's bums on cinema seats takes so much more effort now. so I can understand why they're creating this kind of like swell of sexual tension. But like they were saying stuff like that they shot on Valentine's Day and Jacob Elordi filled Margot Robbie's trailer with roses. The director, Emerald Fennell, had put a shrine of Margot as Kathy in Elordi's changing room. And then in... Margot's changing room, there was a shrine of Heathcliff.
- Speaker #0
You know what I think we forget? The people in these movies are thespian folk. And as someone who did drama for years, actors are weird.
- Speaker #1
Emotions on the surface.
- Speaker #0
quirky they're very emotional everything's quite enhanced and all this kind of stuff yeah and so if you get a certain combination it will go that way it's like theater folk they said that they were running hand in hand through the moors even when they weren't filming did you see the bit where he was like and i looked at margo but like i saw kathy and i was like oh this is me seeing kathy It's very sexual. Now, the experience... explosive way this could turn in an ideal world speaking of like potential world war three what would be great for everyone's mental health mental health and benefit is if we then see a relationship blossom romantic relationship because like you remember seeing it a bit and it was a bit taboo but like bradley cooper and lady gaga like
- Speaker #1
that was like real sexual tension for a star is born Why didn't they get together? And he just had a baby with that model. arena shake but she they're not together anymore like was it over lady gaga because that that seemed like it was a bit real that yeah they keep talking about this like mutual obsession with each other so like if it is true it's like it's quite like out in the open or something what are your thoughts on that like if someone's like she's obviously married i'm not blaming her i'm not going to blame the woman here i'm just like what are your thoughts if someone has a girlfriend someone has a husband
- Speaker #0
and they're saying that but then it's obviously a work
- Speaker #1
creative thing to be honest i think i think and i know it's my tinfoil hat but i think it's kind of like a promo tool of the film this affair baiting because margot's husband worked on it so there's no way if they were actually having an affair no they'd say nothing so what i mean is i think they're all in on it and they know that it's a way to kind of get people talking.
- Speaker #0
Quite a strategy.
- Speaker #1
So I don't think he cares because he knows it's kind of for the promotion of the film. So when she's going around saying I'm so codependent with people I work with I felt like unmoored when he wasn't there. I felt like a lost kid without their blanket when he wasn't around me. The husband's in on it and he knows that that's just kind of like a ploy to sell the film. Because I do think if they were affair baiting Do you remember with that will will Milton Goggins on the White Lotus set. Like that was definitely, like the way that was all handled and stuff. They never spoke to each other. You know, it was kind of, that felt a bit more like it was actually a real affair and then lines would cross. Because it was way more awkward. I think if you're going around saying this stuff kind of openly, it just does feel maybe a little bit like it's a way to sell the film.
- Speaker #0
And your one Emma fan or whatever her name is. She turned down 150 million budget from Netflix.
- Speaker #1
Yeah.
- Speaker #0
And took 80 from Warner Bros. Because they wanted a theatre release. All this kind of stuff. Like they say, what did they say? She was rage baiting, even putting the title in quotation marks. Because people get annoyed because they're so protective over the story and stuff. I'm really excited to see it.
- Speaker #1
Me too. Even if this whole, their codependency and their like weird love, Aussie love for each other. is all a sham. I don't care. I'm so invested, especially because they've nicknamed it Mothering Heights because of the fashion. So good.
- Speaker #0
It looks exquisite. And they said it's like not pinned to a specific time period. So it's like fun versions of a time. Yeah. It's not costume. It's like a fun version of costume.
- Speaker #1
Yeah. Which makes it even better. Like Rather than having to stick to it, you're kind of just taking inspiration from wherever. Yeah, love it.
- Speaker #0
She only wears white, black and red, which I think is so cool.
- Speaker #1
Do you want to know why? These colours echo gothic themes of red for passion, loss and mourning for black and purity and vulnerability for white.
- Speaker #0
Maybe I should only wear those colours. It's very sexual.
- Speaker #1
So sexual. And it's the same costume designer Jacqueline Duran as the Barbie movie. So we know we're in good hands. Doesn't that make your mouth water?
- Speaker #0
Oh, that is fabulous. Yeah.
- Speaker #1
And there's all these like references to art within it. So like when we see the film, we'll understand a bit more. Do you see at the LA premiere, she was, Margot Robbie was wearing a Schiaparelli.
- Speaker #0
It looks fire. Yeah,
- Speaker #1
the black to red hot couture. That's apparently, it was designed to embody the film itself. Yeah. So it goes through.
- Speaker #0
It's like ombre.
- Speaker #1
So they said. that it was explicitly designed to embody the film itself as if the earth of Wuthering Heights soaked up into the dress. And then if you take the like, the passion for red, the black for mourning and the white for vulnerability.
- Speaker #0
I love when you pull out this kind of info.
- Speaker #1
Oh God, isn't it?
- Speaker #0
Yeah, like that kind of analysis. Yeah. That really spiked my adrenaline. Like that's the kind of artsy I can get involved with.
- Speaker #1
Exactly. It's accessible artsiness. 100%.
- Speaker #0
Like thespians, I love them.
- Speaker #1
I love them. But God, the emotions are high.
- Speaker #0
They're quirky, but I love them.
- Speaker #1
I love them. And with this amazing dress that she wore to the premiere, she was wearing this heart necklace called the Taj Mahal diamond. And it was given to Elizabeth Taylor by Richard Burton on her 40th birthday.
- Speaker #0
Sorry, I saw her interviewed on the record when she said that.
- Speaker #1
So then it's like Margot Robbie's wearing. this like token of affection that was given between a pair of like these legendary Hollywood lovers promoting a film about a pair of legendary lovers like Heathcliff and Catherine.
- Speaker #0
God, the thought going into this.
- Speaker #1
Unbelievable.
- Speaker #0
Yeah.
- Speaker #1
It's worth eight million. So like Mothering Heights, let's go. And then there's an inscription on the necklace that said love is everlasting, which is the kind of central theme of Mothering Heights. It's like literally every single detail. Oh my God, Google this now. Google Margot Robbie heels. And she's in these like Barbie style heels. She's in this short black little dress. I don't know how this woman can move her ankles.
- Speaker #0
Oh, where her feet are basically vertical.
- Speaker #1
Like vertical, yeah.
- Speaker #0
Jeepers.
- Speaker #1
Crazy.
- Speaker #0
I love that she's bringing the kind of gothic vibe into it.
- Speaker #1
It's so visually pleasing. It's like ASMR.
- Speaker #0
It looks raunchy.
- Speaker #1
Raunchy. Vogue had an article that said the outfits are going to mirror the emotions. So there's going to be these like colour shifts, flow and movement, the like fragmentation of the fabrics are all going to reflect Catherine's psychological intensity. So I'm so glad I know this going into it. So then you can see how it's basically like her fashion is going to be like a mood ring.
- Speaker #0
I love that.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, which is so cool.
- Speaker #0
I wonder, is it like, is it super sexual?
- Speaker #1
It looks sexual. poster alone like graphically sexual I can't imagine her having a really graphic sex scene there was weird sex scenes in Saltburn so I don't think she's afraid to go there but Margot Robbie yeah sorry yeah great point when you're that famous I'm like you don't really do raunchy sex scenes so maybe it's like I hope it is pretty raunchy to be honest yes right way to kickstart February great and there's also that I saw another one with one of the video with one of the set designers and Catherine's room. It's called the skin room and they use this like latex and you can see almost like blue veins through it. So her bedroom is meant to be like like her skin, like exactly her. So they went like all out with the kind of like it leans into like a bit of weird.
- Speaker #0
Oh, my God. I have to look that up.
- Speaker #1
Oh, I also thought, sorry, like my last fashion point is the Charli XCX of it all. So she's done loads of the music for the film. Her premiere outfit was unbelievable. She really got into the gold thing. Yeah, I loved that. Yeah,
- Speaker #0
it was stunning.
- Speaker #1
Love, love, love.
- Speaker #0
She's very cool.
- Speaker #1
Very cool. I can't wait for her film, The Moment, as well. That'll be really good. That's coming out soon.
- Speaker #0
Is that like fiction?
- Speaker #1
It's done like a mockumentary about Brat. So like, how do we keep this going? We've caught the cultural moment. Oh,
- Speaker #0
it's like a joke.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, yeah. So it's kind of a piss take of what they did with Brat. So it kind of leans into the funny side of it.
- Speaker #0
I'm loving creative juices that are happening right now.
- Speaker #1
Sorry, we are flowing.
- Speaker #0
But you know, like Barbie, they did so much thought into from the initial trailer, like the initial teaser to the trailer. And then all the promo that happened during it and all that kind of stuff, like the way they thought that out was amazing.
- Speaker #1
So good.
- Speaker #0
I feel like Margot Robbie is involved with a lot of stuff that has a lot of thought behind it like that.
- Speaker #1
We love attention to detail.
- Speaker #0
I love it. I don't have it, but I love it.
- Speaker #1
One of my favorite stories is someone, this is an old story, but someone I know was in an interview and she was asked about her attention to detail. And she looked down and she realized she was wearing two different pairs of shoes. They were like two different like nude shoes. They were not a pair.
- Speaker #0
Well, it's really good.
- Speaker #1
it's really good I looked down and like one was patent and the other was like velvet can you imagine your heart dropping when you're wearing two different shoes in an interview talk me through your attention to detail it's really really quite good exhibit A hey below the desk she was like fuck
- Speaker #0
Christ that's a nightmare interview story yeah that would like I would think about that for years if that happened to me you would it's so good okay so we've got some exciting stuff coming up Wuthering Heights. Also, there's a new Kennedy thing coming out.
- Speaker #1
Yes.
- Speaker #0
And they cover JFK Jr. and your one. Caroline Bassett-Kennedy.
- Speaker #1
They're so cursed, that family.
- Speaker #0
Which I'm really excited about because they are a very sexy couple. I'm really excited to see that. Then we've got America's Next Top Model coming out. I think it's a three-part documentary. Just news from the newsroom. Tyra's a producer on it.
- Speaker #1
So I don't know. The trailer seemed worth it all, but I just don't know if we're going to get the juice.
- Speaker #0
Also, hasn't she kind of taken a bit of a turn?
- Speaker #1
She's living in Australia now. trying to sell hot ice cream or something, which I don't fully get.
- Speaker #0
But you know, they had those videos of her in that club and she was rambling on stage for ages.
- Speaker #1
It's very unusual. And then she was like, her point in the documentary was like, well, you wanted it. It was the biggest show. You couldn't start watching it.
- Speaker #0
You know, your man, is it Ken? He was the like, head producer on it or whatever. He was like, I felt like I had created a monster.
- Speaker #1
Yeah, Ken. Yeah, you fucking did.
- Speaker #0
We've been waiting for that for years because that show was chaotic.
- Speaker #1
So bad.
- Speaker #0
We're going to make you black.
- Speaker #1
Yeah. And you,
- Speaker #0
you're going to be Asian today.
- Speaker #1
Eskimo.
- Speaker #0
Yeah. We're going to make you Native American. Yeah. Because you're Chinese.
- Speaker #1
What?
- Speaker #0
Yeah.
- Speaker #1
That makes no sense.
- Speaker #0
I think it's going to be a nice month of content for the ladies, which we will obviously update you with in due course. Now, Clara, I have a recommendation.
- Speaker #1
Raise.
- Speaker #0
It's a buck. It's a lovely one to dip in and out. I read it on holidays recently, and so it's a nice one to bring around. And very light. Love it. And all I know about Nora Ephron is that I love her movies. I don't know anything else. And it's called Why I Feel Bad About My Neck and Other Thoughts on Being a Woman. It's great. She's, like, zesty and zappy, and she's telling you about, like, aging and beauty and makeup and, like... everyday life things about like what's in her handbag and all this kind of stuff. It's a real warm girlie warm book. Yeah. Warm girlie book. So I would recommend you read it should you be suffering from SAD Season of Affected Disorder or any type of January blues.
- Speaker #1
Yes. Oh I love that. I've just read Heartburn so I'm kind of in an oria from Buzz.
- Speaker #0
I love her.
- Speaker #1
Her style of writing I find quite good.
- Speaker #0
I feel like because the one this is like it's like she's
- Speaker #1
